MEDAL COUNT

Feel really bad for this Japanese wrestler. She's been balling her eyes out since she lost and is still crying on the podium.

3 consecutive golds, heavy favourite and then gets silver. Oof.

Seriously. I feel awful. I can't imagine what it feels like to have that level of expecation and lose.

She's also very popular in Japan. So she had a ton of weight on her shoulders.

Yep,whish this was every year ;)...Canada experts where going for 19/20 medals,we have 15 so far...
We're guaranteed either gold or silver for Erica Wiebe in women's wrestling tonight; De Grasse looks like a good bet for silver; and Damian Warner may be able to pull out silver, or settle for bronze. That'd get us to 18 medals, tying our 2012 performance; we'd just need one more after that to meet the Canadian Olympic Committee's target, which could be the women's soccer team repeating for bronze, or some other contest.

Yoshida is a champion, and she will forever be a champion. Father time is and will always be undefeated though. Sometimes an old lion(ess) meets a young hungry lion(ess) that is coming for his/her throne and there's nothing (s)he can do about it..

I have met Maroulis. This medal couldn't have happened to a better person. Well deserved!

So Shakur Stevens beat the corrupted cheating Russian in boxing.

Stevenson didn't even fight. The russian didn't show up.

Cross Post

Helen with the WrestleMania Brock like win..

You are really underselling how good Maroulis is. And how well she wrestled against Yoshida.

Damn Right. Intimidation tactics.

I remember Andre Agassi after his last match. In his speech he said he was thankful for his victories but far more thankful for his losses, as they made him a better player and a better human. There's a somber beauty to that.

He didn't fight due to injuries they said. But I wonder if it was to not draw more attention to his situation.

Bawling. You're saying she's been fucking.

Moroulis went to our local high school my daughter will attend.

This has been a pretty exciting Olympics. I think I enjoy the battles for Bronze the most. The loser for Gold still gets a medal, but when it's Bronze or nothing, the stakes seem higher.

I'm sad this will be over in a few days. Team USA on schedule to finish with well over 100 medals

I'm glad it's coming to an end. I love watching the games, but it is a scam. It distracts people from real world problem and makes people unreasonably and irrationally extremely patriotic/nationalistic.

I saw the match. Great match.

E: These Rio Olympics has been great.

Then you should have seen that Yoshida was outwrestled.

Anotherdayanotherdollar for McDonald's, Coke, and Nike.

I'm a glutton for the athletes joy when they win.

No such thing as being "unreasonably patriotic." Let people celebrate their countries, man. And so what if the Olympics distracts people from the world's problems? That's kind of the point. It's a moment when every country comes together for some friendly competition. The world needs more of that.

The Argentina coach cracks me up, would love to have a picture in picture of him in the corner. Want Belgium to equalise just to see how he reacts

Of course, that's the fun part.

Ohhhh sure there is, but I digress because I'm not gonna hijack the thread.
