I love WaPro's feed on Larry

This girl's reaction to that.

Not true. There are plenty of good responses to that. Quiet indifference. Sensible chuckle. Reasonable shock. Wide grinned amusement. One off guffaw.

Or any mix of those. That's like 5!, right there. I haven't been in school in 20 years but I think that's the notation.

I don't know boss... we (I'm white) start chuckling, or show amusement, and someone is going to scream about how we're smiling because we're remembering "the good old days" instead of just finding something funny...

C-SPAN have uploaded the full remarks on youtube:
Obama

Wilmore

I think we need to appreciate whomever was in charge of directing this event, the decision to not cut away from Wolf Blitzer for eight (8!) seconds after Wilmore skewered him was genius.

Cameraman: "Man Wolf looks pissed"
Director: "Stay on him"
Cameraman: "Like, did he die inside. He isn't moving"
Director: "Stay on him"
Cameraman: "I'm starting to feel bad about filming this now, I'm not Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler"
Director: "Stay on him"

I think the directing in general was superb. I have no idea how they were able to pinpoint everyone's reactions so quickly, but I'm impressed.

But yeah, the timing of the cuts were genius.

Rehearsals. They know whose name is coming up and where they are sitting.

But the not cutting away from Blitzer was just brutal. I'd usually chalk it up to lazy directing but eight seconds... that has to be intentional.

They got the scripts ahead of time, they know where to point secondary cameras fo' sho'.

I mean, I understand that these things are rehearsed, but the execution of such a coordinated effort is really impressive to me because knowing where people are sitting before hand doesn't guarantee that you will get a good shot of their facial reactions once the room is full of people. There are so many variables to account for (angles, potential obstruction of view, etc) that it almost seems like magic to see them pull this off so efficiently.

Larry Wilmore was great for what he was supposed to do. Roast politicians, the President and the Press. He did not play it safe. The drone joke was 💯.

I am almost certain those most offended by the Nigga at the end are folks who probably grew up saying Nigger in secret and still say it.

The crowd is asskissers too. Cheered like crazy for the President but they cheer 1/10th as much for the comedians. Watch as Hillary will be cheered like crazy for her jokes next year but the comedian they get will get a silent room most of the time. I thought it was great. Will be a long time before we see as self deprecating and charismatic a president again.

I'm sure people are tired of the crying MJ meme, but fuck it:

I'm beginning to get the feeling that the real audience for the WHCD isn't the press anymore.

Problem is Wilmore just isn't that funny. The President on the otherhand should take his act on the road.😀

Wolf has been skewered repeatedly, rightly so, every year. Either him or CNN and they always get that reaction from him. Doesn't seem to have a great time at the event, just there because of his hair.

Wilmore has good jokes, but man his delivery is rough. Pretty much the same problem I had the few times I watched the nightly show.

its not even rehearsals they just hand them the script beforehand and so they prepare a list of needed shots. there are many they dont end up getting, as well

wolf blitzer is probably one of the biggest names in cable news so he was just a big old target. he has a lot of pull, has big guests on the show, and actually has exclusive news pieces at times. hes like CNNs frontman

Larry Wilmore basically treated the dinner like a roast

Wilmore definitely hurt some feelings last night. I'm relishing all the "meh, he wasn't so funny" posts by news sites today.

damn Obama is right, Michelle hasn't aged at all. What is her secret

Being black :p

Obama's delivery is so good. But to be frank, I'd really want to see Trump doing this. He'd just go on without a script and rant.

The US is never getting a president with Obama's cool factor again.

edit: HAHAHA, BIDEN SITTING NEXT TO HELEN MIRREN! Fucking Joe.

I'm just wondering how awkward Hillary would be up there. Then again, most presidents have been extremely forced up there.

Doesn't need to be when he can deliver so much ether. The salt from the crowd balanced out any lack of humor in his jokes, IMO.

As he should've. Everyone else just pretends that that's what they're doing.

Me too 😂😂😂😂😂

I don't think Wilmore is that funny, either. He did have some jokes I grinned at, but otherwise it was tepid. I'm not a very big fan of groaner type jokes, though.

Wilmore's set was hilarious in a cringe humor sort of way. My girlfriend was sitting on the couch too embarrassed to watch but I was laughing my ass off.

At one point you could practically feel his anxiety and regret

You have to admire him, though. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing and he powered through it like a fuckin champ. I had the biggest shit-eating grin on my face the entire time it cut to the audience.

Just going through this now, it's so great. Especially Obama's opening CPT joke.

Wish the white house YT video showed other angles Im missing a bunch of the visual jokes.

EDIT:

Ugh he has such great expressions its hard not to gif as I go through.

Wilmore's set was great. He didn't pull any punches and it was brutal. Colbert wasn't very well received by the media either, but that wasn't point.
