20th anniversary of Diablo

I enjoyed the single-player in the original Diablo. Enemies never respawned, meaning there was a fixed amount of experience and loot to find in the dungeon. Not only did I feel like I was leaving my mark on the world by slaughtering beasts and defiling tombs, there was always the fear that I might encounter something I wasn't equipped to handle. Diablo II started refreshing the whole world on loading a savegame, which took away my motivation to kill every monster and smash every cask, while at the same time introducing the possibility of grinding to overcome any challenge. Maybe Diablo II got better later on, I don't know. I lost interest pretty quick.

I highly recommend watching TheJungleQueen on Twitch. She occasionally streams Diablo. She also programmed Diablo II, and you know, her husband created Diablo.

The first time I met The Butcher was sheer unadulterated terror. Not like, 'golly that's scary', like *terror*, heart thumping through my chest... It was something o'clock in the morning and I was playing with the lights off, completely immersed... I remember absolute panic trying to run away through the random winding rooms.

I played so, so much of this game, it will forever be among my treasured gaming memories.

Diablo hooked me. It was fun going deeper and see the story unfold to all the citizens of the town. D1 has its charm. The uneasiness then first facing the Butcher and dying. Ahh, Fresh meat! I fought it and died quickly. I got my revenge later and more bosses down the line. Blizzard North knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, if you played on battle.net, people hacked their characters so pvp was unfair. It was my 2nd multiplayer game after Warcraft 2. It was a lot of my friends talked about in high school.

I spent so many hours on D2. I was really addicted. More classes, more spells and abilities. PvP was a lot better with more cities to visit. We didn't have re-spec until many years later after I stopped playing. All I do would be going to school, then work and once I'm off, more D2 haha. A bunch of all nighters too. Luckily my interest started waning when there was no more expansions after LoD. Finally stopped playing in 2006. When they made it available as a redeemable title for their Battle.net website in 2010/2011, I still had my original D2 and LoD jewel case from the box! My disc was so scratched up from the many installs and re-installs that I had to make a copy just to re-install it again lol. Glad it went digital. I got my moneys worth with the enjoyment of the game.

D3 brought back old characters from D1. I kinda rolled my eyes. I felt like they were creatively bankrupt with what they did with the story. All my friends who bought D3 stopped playing it not long after. No one I know plays it now. Shame really.

Stay a while and listen

God I loved Diablo and Diablo II so much.

Diablo III got fixed a bit after the removal of the horrible real money auction house, but still, it felt overly simplified.

This was my first full PC game I got into. I played it on a shitty laptop back in 1997 and I still enjoyed myself. I think I even did it on a mouse trackpad rather than with a mouse.

What a weird complaint. There's absolutely not a single way that D3 is 'simplified'

WELL WHAT CAN I DO FOR YA

Even my mum used to quote Griswald.

Brilliant game, topped only slightly by Diablo 2 and LoD. The console version wasn't shit either, pretty good couch co op.

All I have to say is Diablo 3 lol. Thanks Jay Wilson.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls : 759 viewers

....lol.

Diablo and Diablo 2 were great games. It's too bad Diablo 3 shared very little in common with the first two games.

"Ah! FRESH MEAT!"

Add in that I was running about 10fps, so the whole experience felt even more claustrophobic and scary.

Diablo was also the first time I saw boobs in a video game. It has a special place in my heart.

They don't make em like they used to. Diablo 3 is still my biggest disappointment in all of gaming.

Compared to Diablo 2, D3 is simplified in pretty much every way.

I feel a lot of what made the first Diablo so great was that it only really took place in one location...

It felt like a contained experience.
Tristram felt like home in a way none of the other hub locations from the other games could since you rarely stay for long.

The NPCs were the same ones the entire game, they felt like family... Diablo III just feels like it's ushering you through an on rails story... Diablo I felt like you were unraveling the story as you went...

And that's why the experience of Diablo won't be duplicated till Blizzard realizes less is more in terms of locations and grandiosity...

Diablo doesn't need to be a globe treking save the world quest...it should be a contained location with one giant pit of evil.

Loved me some Diablo.

Fondest memory. Coop with my best friend. Had loads of great gear. Mhe goes to Hell and dies, dropping all his loot. I head down to save him, all hero styled...die by his corpse. Both lost all of our stuff.

Stopped playing Diablo.

😂

Because it's a shitty way to celebrate an anniversary?

To literally who

Who goes into WoW, Overwaifu or Hearthstone and go 'Oh, I sure do wish this thing celebrating the developer's other game wasn't here, it's ruining all of my immersion' or some similar nonsense?

It's there for a day and then gone. Do you hate the very existence of Super Robot Wars? Marvel vs Capcom? those are straight up fanservice games instead of a little miniature event like this.

It is, sorry...

It's a hack fest of rift over rift, no conten, horrible story, etc =/ and I'm a bif diablo fan =(

It's still bollocks to suggest we'd never see anything good from Blizz again when by most accounts Legion was a success and it doing well with content patches and Overwatch was well received and has sold a ton...and is good...

Rented this on PSX when I was a kid and in fact this was the first Blizzard game I ever played, when on to buy it later when I older so I could beat it and I still have my copy. For its time I found it to be an extremely unique game as I can't really recall playing anything like it back then.

Playstation 1 version is better than PC

Combo buttons works flawless

and receive exclusive voice over about diablo story

I'd argue that the console versions of Diablo III are also arguably better than the PC version.

It almost feels like they built the game with a controller in mind. Maybe they did.

Absolutely agree. Having played both, i enjoy the PS4 version more. Inventory issues aside, its just plays better.

Such a fantastic game! Just recently played it all the way through last year again. I really wish Blizzard would port the game to Battle.net store so I can buy it and play it without a CD. If they did that I'll definitely get it!

All that said, I still always stick to Sorcerer when I play. I just love the spells you can do in that game! Also the music is so iconic and I love it to pieces!

For movement, and that's about it. D3 was clearly designed for PC. There are certain skills in the game that activate at cursor. You can't do that with a controller. Without cursor placement some builds (and I'd argue the entire wizard class as well) are severely disadvantaged or not even possible on console.

I didnt get a chance to play D1, but i played 2 and 3.

I couldnt really get into 2, not really sure why.

When D3 first came out, i bought it day 1 on a whim. It was my first diablo game. I was so dissapointed in the game. While the first playthrough was very fun, it got old fast.
But once reaper of souls came around, and all the patches were implemented, the game became great.
All the hate on D3 is from people who obviouslt never gave it a chance after it was fixed.

Anyone have any tips for getting Diablo 1 to run without a CD? Want to do a series replay for the anniversary...

Edit: I want to play it on my Surface so I can take it with me but it doesn't have a CD drive. I do have the original Diablo CD and an older PC that does have a drive.

What ever is good about Diablo 3 are not the same things as were good with D1 or D2

The things that made me like D2 are not present at all

Remember to download the game's patch(es).

There's a solution few posts down.
EDIT that one step about IPX stuff is probably unnecessary for single player.

EDIT Some googling results in many questions about this. Also, it seems not everything works on all systems... Basically it is like getting loot IRL, RNG reigns supreme as usual.
