I have nothing bad to say about the Gamescom's organisation this year, it all went perfectly well and on time. And the bandwidth was *always* perfect, which is something only the TGS managed to do until now for me.
I just wish the press room was closer to the business area...

Still has the biggest news out of the three big shows, and all devs/pubs are there, versus GamesCom and TGS which haven't gotten to that point.
If the intent is to reach largest possible audience, Gamescom seems like a more appropriate venue to go all out. Especially for companies struggling in mainland europe like MS. E3 for them is preaching to the choir.

Damn. I really enjoyed GamesCom this year but i have played just 3 games(Halo Reach, Haunted and Nail'd). Saturday was really enjoyable, too. Next year I'll get a press ticket, so i can check out the Business Area.

But my heart want a Penny Arcade Expo Europe.

Doubt it, it was 240,000~ last year, so it's not like they were un-aware of what they were getting out of.
It will most likely be the biggest gameshow of the year so it is kinda if a big deal that they pulled out.

Ugh I can't imagine having to fight my way through that crowd. Say what you will about e3 but it's big enough as it is at 40,000. Especially when you have work to do and are trying to cover it.

Why is E3 the most hyped show?
Because it's not about the amount of people, it's about the amount of exhibitors (and their announcements).

I'd like to see the corresponding statistics for E3 and TGS.

That is why it is segmented off. There's the public area, and there's the business area. In the business area is where the press and retailers go. There's quiet, each publisher has their own area with closed of sections for each developer/games, and you can see the games in a nice and well ventilated areas where the public is not allowed.

And if you need to go to the public area to do something for work, show your press card to the people working at the different areas and they will let you play whenever and as long as you want at any game/booth.

GamesCom is doing everything right in terms of how game conventions should work.

And if you are a public person, the show is fucking amazing. Hands-on with Vanquish, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Zelda, Diablo 3 and so much more. For anyone not in the press, it is a dream come true.

There is absolutely nothing to see in the business area unless you have an appointment.

There were 216 exhibitors at this years E3.
whaaaa

That seems like an awfully big difference. Must be all those smallish to mid-sized [Eastern] European devs. :bow Gamescom

There were definitely a lot more people on the show floor on Wednesday (press day). Last year half of the booths were pretty much empty.

How were the lines for Call of Duty: Black Ops and Blizzard over the weekend? I've seen reports of 3 to 4.5 hours.

I never did see Test Drive Unlimited 2 on the show floor. It must have been in the business area.
TDU2 was nowhere to be seen as far as I know due to it being delayed to 2011.
