R-Type Final is positively awesome. Then, there's Contra Shattered Soldier, and various flavors of Guilty Gear. If you have the ability to play imports, Espgaluda and Dodonpachi Daijou should definitely be part of your colection.

oh, totally forgot shattered soldier. somehow. that's the best in the contra series, and probably my favorite domestic ps2 game. the upcoming neo contra is turning out really well too. and if you like overhead shooters, keep an eye out for acclaim's the red star.
