I'm really torn between this and the Apple Watch.

I really liked the 1st generation Pebble but sold it after a few months since key features (at least for me) were missing.... like a step counter and a microphone (to be able to answer to texts while driving e.g.).

And now the Pebble Time offers these features.

Furthermore, this one is really beautiful:

I like the gray time steel but dislike the leather band. Gray with black leather would be best. I may go for the black just for the convenience of it all.

The pebble time microphone can't answer texts on iOS or on Android.

I got one of the OG Best Buy $5x.xx ones from the sale/coupon. Just arrived today.

It was labeled as open box but it was sealed (dunno if they reseal it?). I'd never seen one in person before but still backed the PT mostly out of curiosity and fallout from the Apple keynote.

Gotta say, 3 minutes into looking at it, trying it on, and getting an email notification, it's already making me sold and wondering why I didn't bite on the line sooner. Current plan is the original until the PTs start shipping but can tell this'll be nice to have over the next few months.

Also the person below me is an idiot.

Why are people looking forward to this?

I mean, just look a the bezel. Its bezel has a bezel on its bezel.

They should call it the Bezel!!!!!

Also, I have a pebble and I never wear it, its pretty pointless.

Oh? I just assumed it could.

Well that's a pity. Android Wear has that feature and I really liked it.

Pebble Time's new microphone lets you send voice replies to incoming notifications* or take short voice notes. We used the latest technology to maintain water resistance so you can swim or surf with Pebble Time (we do not, however, recommend talking underwater).

*Sending voice replies works with most major Android apps including SMS, Hangouts, Gmail, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp and hundreds more. For iOS users, voice replies are currently limited to Gmail notifications. We’re working to enable voice replies for more apps.

Is there any information about upcoming smartbands?

Zero information. I think Pebble should've made one or two different bands ready for the launch of PT, instead of relying on someone else to make the bands for them. Now we have no idea when the first smartbands will appear.

woops wrong tab :P

So are people mostly getting steel or normal ones?

I am getting a normal one because I really want one before the summer when I think I will get the most use out of it.

Also, I don't think the Steel looks that great. The original Steel still looks like the best design out of all of them.

So I ended up jumping on that BestBuy deal, and after finding two gift cards in my wallet (one I thought had only $5 on it, and the other I didn't even know I had), ended up paying 25 bucks for a regular pebble.

And now I'm really tempted to grab a PT... but that gold PT Steel... hmmmmmmmmmmm

Yep though the normal Pebble Time isn't much better, you have a bezel on the bezel which makes the Pebble Time look very like a Geek Toy.

Current Pebble looks like a geek toy, as well, so no big deal. I will grab the cheap option (btw, I have been able to nab early birds twice), and see if later upgrade to Time Steel is worth, or maybe a new Android watch comes around.

I can't decide between grey steel or black steel :(

I emailed them and they wouldn't give me a straight answer regarding customs fees for non-US pledgers so I won't be bothering.

Whelp I am out, I wasn't too sold on the Pebble to begin with but thought it would be an interesting gadget to tinker with. However having to pay an extra "fast track" fee or die waiting for it to be delivered and the fact they didn't make any allowances for duty (the early bird + VAT = more expensive than the watch will actually retail for) it is just too much.

I appreciate that they explained all this before the kick starter ended though thus giving me the opportunity to cancel my pledge. I might take another look at the colour pebble when it gets released though and the price drops.

Expedited shipping to Germany is about $7 additional + VAT.
France is about $7 additional + VAT
Spain is about $8 additional + VAT
Italy is about $8 additional + VAT
Netherlands is $7 additional + VAT
Sweden is about $8.50 additional + VAT
Austria is about $8.50 additional + VAT

VAT would be based on the base pledge amount( eg. total pledge less shipping). So, for an Early Bird shipping to Italy VAT would be calculated off of $159.

69 may deliveries now available at 179$ + additional shipping, vat and import costs. Shipping cost is 10$ for non US citizens and delivery time is 4-6 weeks unless you pay extra.

not sure if I would recommend it if you live outside the US right now. I will maybe cancel my pledge tomorrow. Have not made up my mind yet.

I am definitely curious about duty to Canada. Extra shipping fees is disappointing as well but not unexpected for Canada. No way it should take 4-6 weeks to get to Canada.
