300 was a terrible movie

It's one of the best adaptations I've ever seen of a comic book, visually speaking. That movie IS a moving Frank Miller comic.

Didn't really enjoy the way they presented the story/acting, though. It's okay overall.

It was a 7/10 would re-watch over beer and weed and perhaps adapt a drinking game kinda movie. "Terrible" is a little off the mark unless you really hate abs or something.

Sometimes you just want to see a dumb movie. If I want to see something mentally stimulating I can. Sometimes you just want to see dudes whoop on each other's asses. Great movie for that.

Indeed, and there is such a concept of a good dumb movie.

Like the dumb comedy Orgazmo compared to something like Grown Ups.

It was what it was. Definitely an awesome movie when viewed on a huge omnimax screen. It's not something to watch at home though.

Last weekend I was "stress testing" a second subwoofer I put in the home theater so I picked a few scenes to watch. MI3 bridge scene, Watchmen opening fight, Speed Racer last race and 300 - the first attack/fight.

Its been 5 years since I watched 300...I had forgotten how great that first battles recipe was.
Everything from when Butler says "battle formations" to the narrator saying something about it being a good day or good start is perfect.

The music cues line up nicely with action..specifically when the Persian gets a spear to the chest, when the Spartans are marching over the bodies and when it switches to the speed ramp fight.

The lines are so masculine its ridiculous and kinda cool. "Throw down your weapons. *spear* Come and get them!" "Give them nothing, take from them everything".

The visuals are devisive but I still like them..but I like Snyder movies in general. At the time though, there was nothing like it. Plus there was some cool shots/ideas beyond the single shot fight. Things like the Spartans holding their ground and pushing off the Persians, sending them flying back..twice. The previously mentioned shot of the Spartans walking over the mountain of bodies. And the very end of the speed ramp/single shot fight where Butler sets his shield and the guy bounces right off it.

The audio. Holy fuck..I actually apologized to my tenants. When the Persians charge into the phalanax...that hit was so fucking loud I was surprised I didnt damage a speaker. Then it happens again when they push off the Persians.

Maybe I wont like the movie as much as I did when it came out..I dont know, I stopped watching after this scene..regardless, watching this brought back great memories of seeing this with a bunch of friends and having a great time. Plus...I dont think anyone disliked this movie when it came out. Seems like a victim of popularity backlash.

it's stupid as fuck and has nice action. There's a right way and a wrong way to do a dumbass action movie, and 300 did a good amount right.

the joke upon its release was that the movie got its name because they measured it on a scale of gayness from 1 to 10.

seems that joke never got boring for the vid creators up there

Huh, did not know that. Is that an English joke only? Never heard it here in the states.

Lol a bunch of apologists in this thread trying to justify why they enjoyed it the first time but now realize this move sucks. Kinda like girls and Twilight. I had a good time watching it with the girls, it was entertaining, Edward was hot so it served it's purpose.

Yeah, 300 is kind of like Twilight for men, in that it utterly panders.

If it were a video game, most of the posters here giving it the thumbs up would shit on it for being "focus-tested".

Really fun movie that suffers on rewatch due to the added scenes with the Queen.

The sequel looks like a waste of time. The lead actor looks like a bartender.

I thought it was great, senseless fun. I loved it!

I'm actually surprised by GAF's positive reaction. It's the kind of movie that I thought would be shit all over on around here.

Saw the movie for the first time at a festival, with some good drinks and some excellent smokes. It was Awesome!

Can't watch the video and the OP is useless in that it does not lay out any argument besides the youtube link, but I disagree. I thought it was pretty good as long as you view it as an exaggerated story being taken literally.

All this made me realize was that Gerard has a really good voice for yelling.

Yes I know he was the Phantom of the Opera.

I went to see this in theatres when I was drunk with a few friends and passed out in the first few minutes and woke up to the very last scene. I was like thank god i didnt sleep through the whole thing
because they charge the field at the end after the speech
then the credits started rolling. Somebody yelled out "way to snore through the whole movie jackass!!" from behind me. I stayed in my seat untill the theatre was empty. I went back and saw it again and really loved the movie.

I wonder if there's a lot of people here saying that the movie was fine because they enjoyed it as dumb testosterone-filled fun, but then turn around trashing twilight fans (Or anyone that likes any movie for that matter)

Welcome to the human race. Are you new?
