i think those are pretty good figures. the psp audience will probably find it more like home than the 3ds, but both should do well this generation. the 3ds has the big name software, but both need that one big thing that you can only get on the platform- something new to this handheld generation.

Pretty much half. The PSP was supply-constrained at launch. The figures cannot be used for comparision in the present case.

Because it's less than the 3DS and that means bomba.
It's not bad in the slightest. I just think people were expecting/hoping for a little more based on the strength of the software/time of the year.
I predicted about 350k for the first week, so it should do better than I anticipated. We're surely looking at 400k for first week right?

Good numbers considering the 3DS is at its best moment since launch and the 3DS launched with a really calm/boring market.
Vita sold 321k as to Sunday last week. It is the first week number.
Vita is a holiday release - so its expected to sell more than a console released in february. But lets see how it will hold up the upcoming weeks. It's not bad at all. Vita sales don't look spectacular because 3DS sold 350K last week, but it was just two days. Vita may have a good buzz based on its great reception.

No reason to think it will right now. I'm expecting a "healthy in Asia / struggles everywhere else" scenario for the Vita until Sony provides a reason to believe otherwise. It just doesn't have a mainstream franchise vehicle (like a Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, etc.) that it can use to build market share.
Hoping it at least manages to carve out a niche audience of hardcores like the PSP did to make localizations of some of the inevitable five-star Japanese-developed exclusives this platform will attract profitable ventures for Western licensors/publishers to consider.
Sony has been in panic mode since 2006.

I'd go with 145k. Low expectations, but:
+ holiday period
+ launch period
- 3DS cracking a Holiday 2005, hardware-wise
- many must-have in 3DS library, so people have to choose
- price is kinda high
All things considered, I think it will not go much higher than that. 200k+ would be a very good score.

How about no. The matter of the fact that there are 2 sku one is much more expensive than the other can be the only reason why the VITA did not reach higher than 321k.
You're comparing one console's normal december week to the other console's launch. Based on the usual post-launch dropoff, there's going to be a very large gap (nay, an APOCALYPTIC gap) between the two consoles next week.
Hell, there may be a pretty substantial gap this week (in 3DS' favor).

I don't think that's the reason at all - why so defensive ? People also had very high expectations for the 3DS and crapped on it every time when there was a sign of weakness or bad performance.
That's just how it is - Vita didn't sold out and after the 700k first shipment news some expected +400k sales.
