360 launched when I was junior high school. I'm now two years removed from college.

When the Xbox 360 launched,

- The iPhone would still not release for another year and a half.
- We were collecting 386 Pokemon within Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Today we are at 649.
- There have been eight Call of Duty titles since the system launched.
- Nintendo released their first official online game (Mario Kart DS)
- Game of the Year awards included Game Boy Advance titles (Minish Cap)
- The terms casual gamer really did not yet exist outside of the early success of Nintendogs and Brain Age.
- Guitar Hero would go on to be one of the top selling games of the year and subsequent years. The series is now dead.
- Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire (the forth movie) was released the same time the system launched.
- The DS family has seen five revisions since its launch (Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL)
- The same launch month saw Disney's first release of a fully 3D animated movie (Chicken Little), it was also the first commercial wide release 3D film.

Dang.

Really puts things into perspective.

360 Launched in my first year of High School, I am about to finish my Honors Degree. At least you get college with a new generation of consoles, I would give anything for that. By the time the next consoles come out I will probably have a full time job and no time for them :(

Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced when I was in 8th grade, now I'm a senior in university.

I remember a lot of threads here asking for the gen to be longer. Fuck that.

Yeah every time one of those threads came up it really pissed me off. Just because you don't have disposable income doesn't mean the rest of us should suffer with, at this point, 10 year old tech.

I'm glad this gen has gone on this long. Certainly due for new hardware, but it was nice to see a longer evolution of software compared to the 4-5 year rotation we're used to.

You have to be kidding me? We saw the death and stagnation of entire genres because nobody wants to start a new IP unless we are on a new generation of consoles. So everybody just started copying Call of Duty to bide time until the next systems came out. Now I hate any first person shooter not named Halo and even thats starting to look a lot like Call of Duty.

Me too. I feel super weird whenever I think about it. It's kind of awesome thinking the 360 has been going so long.

This generation ended for me in 2010. Last console game I got was Halo Reach. Purely PC since then.

The systems are complete garbage and MS and Sony should feel ashamed for parading them to consumers for this long. I hope Apple and other smartphone and tablet companies annihilate this 10 year business model eventually by forcing these companies out their
stagnation.

Then again if Sony doesn't change something soon they won't have much of a business

I bought a Xbox 360 when I finished 7th grade; and now I am in my first year of college.

I was so excited when I bought it, now I just want my 720

Journey, Sound Shapes, HD collections, Uncharted, Mass Effect series, Skyrim, Dragon Age, BF, FEAR, Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, Brunout Paradise, FFXIII, Creed-series

This gen has been fucking awesome imo

Also never got a 360, got my PS3 in 2007 then moved to PC in 09-10 but still play lotta PS3

To put things into perspective, VersusXIII was shown at E3 2006, the show where next gen was showcased. Next year will be a show for the next next gen, will it have a presence?

It's hilarious that half the franchises you named there are either dead or going downhill in quality

This console generation is effectively finished. At this point your just eating the scraps that these companies are throwing at you.

360 launched when I was getting near the end of my university degree. I'm still in university.

This is me. Business as usual.

To be honest, it's like it was yesterday, I guess that I'm at that point of life that nothing significant happens for years (yes, I'm old, sue me).

That doesn't sound long. 2005 I was at university, now I'm working. Doesn't seem that long ago.

Seriously. I had just graduated college and was working full time...fast forward to now and am still working full time. Doesn't feel that long ago at all.

Watch out kids, as you get older time goes by a lot faster.

I would personally like to thank the Kinect and the Move for artificially extending the life-cycles of the 360 and PS3, which I think we can all agree has been totally worth it -_-

Not to mention the shear number of studios/developers that this generation killed. It's insane.

I don't think it ever becomes "scraps". Look at this year. There are ongoing franchises with annual or near-annual releases -- Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Need for Speed. There are sequels -- Borderlands 2, Assassin's Creed III, Max Payne III, Mass Effect III, Resident Evil 6. There are new IPs -- Dishonoured, Neverdead, Lollipop Chainsaw, The Last of Us. I'm not endorsing the quality of all of these games, just showing the range of titles still being released for those platforms.

There's plenty of stuff out there. Not as much as mid-generation, for sure, but not just scraps.

You can tell these systems are getting really old by playing Ass Creed 3. Horrible framerate. Pop ins and outs EVERYWHERE. Glitches just about in everything you do. Just terrible.

Returned the PS3 version, will wait for the PC version.

You guys are making me feel old. So the 360 came out when I was in my 20s; now I'm in my 30s. No big deal, really.

(I've never had an XBox. Will the 360 seem primitive if I ever try playing a game on it?)

It's funny people complained when the Xbox's life cycle was 4 years, and now that it's doubled we are complaining, lol

If anything I felt 4 years was too short for the original Xbox. It ended up being a good decision though... helped to make the Xbox brand much bigger/more popular.

I mean man, the Xbox brand has really grown this gen. Very similar to the Playstation brand back during the PS1 (at least here in NA).

I was 15/16 when it came out, a freshman in high school and my bro was a senior, he went to camp out and when he came home I remember skipping a class to go see.

Now I'm 23 and still in college, time flies :p

No regrets B^) project gotham racing 3 was awesome but it's time

I'm ready for new systems, it's gonna be :O

Exact same timeframe for me. It's really insane. I would be losing my shit waiting for new consoles if we didn't have such an incredible spring game line up on the way.

I'm young, but I was 12 when it came out. I'm 19 now. Feels like a long time actually.

Edit: So I was in Elementary school, 6th grade, when the 360 came out. Damn. I'm in College now.

I was a junior in college and didn't get one until January 2007. I've burned out on shooters and most of the huge franchises, and if it weren't for xbla, I probably would have bailed on the console already.

Glad that I didn't, as forza horizon is actually a fresh experience. I doubt I'll get much else for it though. The wiiu is coming and MS doesn't have shit besides halo and gears.

Games like Mark of the Ninja, Fez, Trials Evo, Halo 4, Forza Horizon, Journey, Binary Domain, Spelunky, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Catherine, Spec Ops, Sleeping Dogs, Max Payne 3, XCOM & Dishonored are scraps? I guess its cool to have a negative-everything sucks attitude these days.

I was in year 11 when the 360 come out (secondary school) so from there to now I went through the end of my teen and adult education, and had two jobs and now working fully time in the IT industry. Had a five year relationship (Was engaged) and ended and now found somebody almost a year later and now full in love again, and now living in my own house I own and pay rent and I was living in my parents home in a different country and during that time they moved to Egypt and sold the house. In the span of this generation I have completely changed my character and started my life in many ways and still got much more to do.

Fucking hell, that's scary.

I like how most of those games have vastly superior PC versions.

Maybe, but as you get older it doesn't seem like a long time. Perspective changes.

This generation has been going on for longer than World War II. Also what Dr. Feel Good said.

7 years is a lot of time. Hell, apart from Putin every major political leader in the world from mid-05 holds no power any more.

Edit: Hell, by the time next Xbox is launched 360 will be 8 years old. This was apparently the most popular mobile phone 8 years ago.

The 360 launched before I was born, and now you're having this conversation with me.

Actually I was still an undergrad and I have since graduated from law school and now have a job in the real world.

Remember the height of the console wars when certain fanboys argued against buying the 360 by saying it wouldn't last more than 4-5 years, based on the life cycle of the original Xbox? Now people are complaining that it has been around for too long and it has at least another year left.

This has been a really long gen. I was thinking about how GTA5 is coming out in 2013, and it reminded me about how GTA4 was 5 years ago, and it was a couple years into the generation. How is that possible.

On a side note, I was a junior in high school when the PS2 came out and now I feel old.
Damn I was a sophomore, now I feel even older.

I like how most of those games have vastly superior PC versions.

And how is that affecting their quality? because there are superior versions magically they lose their quality if you play them on the consoles? if consoles gamers are getting scraps then the PC users are just getting higher resolution scraps.

Say guys, did you realize it's been 7 years since the 360 came out? Crazy.

It only seems like a long time to you people because you're so effing young.

Pretty much. The transition from 13-20, or 15-22 is huge. The transition from 23-30 isn't that different really.
