what really blew my mind was when someone pointed out that Sony cleverly reused Nintendo's layout...

A = 1
B = 2
X = 3
Y = 4

Circle = 1 Line
Cross (X) = 2 Lines
Triangle = 3 Lines
Square = 4 Lines

Everyone has just resused Nintendo's everything for the past 20+ years.

That's so awesome because now when I explain controls to a friend I'll just say "IT"S JUST LIKE NINTENDO, JUST THINK OF THE NUMBER OF SIDES TO EACH SHAPE, THEN CONVERT TO THE NINTENDO WAY AND TADA!"

On the PS3, I have memorized colors and symbols.

On the 360, I just know colors, and forget which symbol is where after only a week or two of non-use. Thank god QTEs usually use color as well.

Brilliant counterargument.

Like I said earlier, I don't have a problem with either. It makes more sense in the western world to LABEL the buttons A-B, regardless of whether you have no issues remembering which button does what.

Haha.

I have a japanese PS3. Am used now to hitting circle to confirm things. It seems to make more sense too...circle is pointing forward, x is like going back a little.

Makes for some confusion in certain game demos and PAL Home etc. though... :)

In the PS1 era, anything by Konami I just instinctively hit circle to advance. Once I saw the Konami logo, the shit was on.
