360 wifi entertainment pack coming soon?

I need to buy another wireless adaptor for my 360. Is it worth waiting for this?
Assuming that you are well aware that Microsoft is going to gouge you on the price, the upcoming official black wireless n adapter should be superior hardware.

I hate people who play games online over wireless.
I wonder what's worse, people using wireless or people going through packet loss through a pc.

I know how to do this stuff, and it's a pain in the ass. Imagining less l33t people than me doing it is amusing. har. har.
Oh it's terrible, but from what I remember it's nothing but setting up a bridge or ICS, restarting everything, and praying.

I don't want to have to pay a premium for something being included that I am never going to use.

....Um wat? What premium? People who are dissing the 360 hardware for not having wi-fi out of the box is pretty legitimate imo when even things like my satellite reciever and handhelds (and Wii) has Wi-Fi.

And who's to say you won't need it in the future?

Is there a bill pending to outlaw ethernet cables?

I get you. I was the same way, and used cables for everything.

And then I moved, and my setup is currently located in an area where wired connection IS possible, but highly inconvenient (i'd have to drill holes and fish cables).

Edit: Holy shit at the Geek squad setup price.

129 dollars? are they fucking serious :(

Because running a wire is not always practical?

I'm with you. I used to have my 360/PS3 on a switch which attached to a WAP which wirelessly put them on my network. This is because drilling a hole in the floor/ceiling or running the cable down two flights of stairs was NOT practical.

Things have changed a bit now... but considering -- I'd rather not pay extortion prices for the official adapter when I have the networking know-how to make a similiar or better solution for about half the price. :)

Here's the reason MS can get away with this. Because people actually buy these:

bububu it's so easy to do yourself!

as usual, GAF has no idea just how incompetent/unwilling/lazy the average consumer is.

That said, that price is a fucking joke. :lol

What are the differences between this wireless n, the current wireless 360 adapter and G?

The current 360 adapter is A/B/G. The new one is N.

G is the "current" (outdated) wifi standard. Not really quick enough for HD streaming. N is.

Assuming that actually supports WPA2 this time.

I wonder if this was MSFT's reason for never going internal with the wireless?

I doubt it. Microsoft was never really hot and heavy into video until the Netflix deal and NXE. It was there, but it wasn't really pushed.

Back around 2006 when the wireless adapter came out interviewers asked "why didn't you just have built in wireless in the first place like the Wii and PS3?" The response was always "blah blah giving consumers choice" but they'd also throw in "as wireless technologies evolve this gives us more flexibilitity yadda yadda yadda". I'm sure the biggest reason they went this route, though, is because this allows them to nickle and dime consumers on accessories.

...and not even support WPA-Fucking-2.

I still can't get over that. Even the fucking Wii supports WPA2.

We're the cheapest console on the market at 199 dollars, and for just 100 more you can get wifi, online free for 3 months, a 10 dollar voucher and a remote control!!!

They didn't include wifi at launch and they never will integrate wifi into the 360 simply because they can take advantage of many people with the $100 adapter. And it's not like having basic wifi would prevent them from later on selling an adapter that has N functionality for whoever needs it.

It baffles me that MS still hasn't revised the 360 to include built-in wifi. Hell even the Wii has it. And the $100 tag for the official dongle is offensive.

In any case wifi gaming sucks balls. A wired connection is the only way to go.

That's not a that great deal. Or is it the new Wifi adapter that will be released in November? Then it sounds better since that one will cost EUR 80.

Xbox 360 Remote (EUR 16) + Wifi adapter (EUR 50) + Live 3 months (EUR 20) + 800 Points (EUR 10).

because they don't have to. Its not going to make or break them, and the amount of people that would rejoice if MS came out and said tomorrow that every 360 from now on would have built in wifi at no extra cost would be miniscule. For the average consumer, when they buy a 360 and get home and get ready to hook it up, they have one of two decision: Buy a $100 wifi adapter for their wifi network (if they even have one) or put the 360 somewhere where they can hook it up to a landline.

Since launch of 360 their strategy is to ripoff consumers in as many ways as possible because 360 is close proprietary platform and they can get away with it.

Why the fuck is the wireless adapter still $100?

Edit: Actually, why was it ever that price? I remember from the cost breakdown of the Wii that the wireless component costs $5 to produce, and this was 3 years ago.

In 2005, when the 360 was released, the price was not much more than any other A/B/G usb adapter. Also, at the time, 802.11a was the only standard Microsoft recommended for streaming video through Media Center so it had to be included. I'm not sure if the latter has changed, but the former obviously has

The revised Natal 360(coming Fall 2010) will have a basic level of wi-fi built in. They are doing this deal to clear out stock of the old adapter and then they will position the N adapter as a premium item for new Natal 360 owners and old 360 owners alike.

I wish it had wireless, just because I've had to move my 360 further away from the router in my house. I don't even want to play online, it's just handy to be able to send messages to friends, use online scoreboards and download stuff from the marketplace. I will not pay £60 for the privilage, though. My brother did buy the current adapter when GAME had a deal that it was £40 when bought with anything else in store. Even at that price it's too much.

The vast majority of people will just buy the accessories and not really care. If you happen to be someone who does care about their overpriced accessories, like the wifi adapter and hard drives, then there's ways to get around that. So yeah, it sucks that it's so proprietary, but I can't complain much with my ebay'd $60 120 GB HDD and $25 wireless internet setup.

It isn't if you ever need to upgrade to to Wireless N. PS3 is stuck at G.
PS3 doesn't have USB ports?

in 2005, A/B/G USB Adapters were $65, and people called the MS $100 adapter a ripoff. it's just a bigger ripoff now because the $35 gap has doubled.

proprietary m$ shit
they dont need to slash prices because they have no competition

(╬ ಠ益ಠ) fuck you m$
