I want to get one of these, but they seem pretty expensive. Are there any (RELIABLE) cheaper alternatives to the officially licensed adapter? I'm not too keen on stringing ethernet cable all over the house, either.

It always kind of bugged me that the 360 has no built-in wifi. It should at least be on the Elite... but what can you do?

The D-Link DWL-810+ is a wireless to ethernet bridge; it takes the wireless signal and lets you connect it to any ethernet port. Two of my friends have one for their PS2s, they seem to work pretty good.

I bought a Linksys gaming adaptor (like this off eBay). I bought used, but they're not all that expensive new.

Aside from having to reset it every so often, it works great. Runs a little hot, though.

Looks like I'll either be going with a really long ethernet cable or a gaming adapter/ethernet bridge. Maybe the cable can double as a tripwire for evildoers to stumble over if they try to break in, triggering a series of deadly unavoidable traps.

I noticed I have another option: I need to get another wireless router, so could I just set it up in such a way that the other router acts as an access point, then connect it to the 360 in the same room (thus eliminating the need to run a long cable)?

Am I missing something here, can't you just relocate your current wireless router to next to your 360 and plug the cable into that? Or are your computer hooked up to that one with a cable?

My computer is indeed hooked up to this wireless router. The way my DSL runs it wouldn't be practical to have it any other way, plus the router is suited for optimal range for all our wireless devices. Having it in the room with the 360 wouldn't make much sense as a result, since it would be just out of range for a lot of our other devices as well.

There is really no need to pay $100 for the MS adapter. The D-Link 3420 Wireless adapter works perfectly and can be had from www.outpost.com for $50.

I've been using the 3420 with both my 360 and PS3 and have never had any lag issues at all.

Well you could get a used adaptor either online or at EB/GS. Got mine for $60 I think and I've never had a problem with it

This creates huge NAT issues. I've tried this and it wouldnt let me view the movies and tv section of XBL.

I now have a 25 foot ethernet cable connected to my 360.

Learn your port redirectioning. Sharing your internet through windows internet sharing PROPERLY does not create huge NAT issues, as internet connection sharing does exactely what a router does: shares the internet and redirects ports.

Also, people talking about buying wireless routers: remember that the official xbox360 wireless adapter does 802.11a. I'm not saying it's not expensive, it is, but not every router out of walmart's shelf does 802.11a (which is faster and kinda necessary for the video streaming part).

just a word of warning, if you want to stream HD videos to your 360, wifi is not an option.

short of that, you can get a bridge, but they're almost as expensive as the wireless adapter. there are no 3rd party wireless adapters that i know of that work with the 360.

I ponied up the dough for the official adapter, and I'm glad I did. I've never had a single problem with it, and other than the initial 5 minute setup, have never had to spend a second tweaking it. My time and energy is worth the extra cash.

Download speeds are fast and I don't have lag problems. Perfect accessory IMO.

I have the same, and have never had any issues either. I also have it networked to my pc and can stream video and audio with no issues at all, never any glitches pauses or anything. But you do probably need an A or G wireless router. I use it with a Dlink Airplus Xtreme G router... never had an issue in almost two years.
