3DS customization: a thread for those sick of Playskool handhelds

While not custom designed, I got this really awesome case for my 3DS last year, found out about it from Tiny Cartridge who got it from Play-Asia

* pro tip* If you folks are contemplating making or purchasing a vinyl decal, try to get a few copies made. It may take you a few attempts to perfect applying the thing without stretching or making air bubbles.

Fuck Nintendo. If we don't get an all black or all white XL announced at E3 then I'm done, and I'm not bothering with the system at all. There's absolutely no reason for these colors to not exist, and if they want to continue to operate with their heads up their ass then they lost me as a 3DS consumer.

Couple people PM'd about more pictures of the Zelda decal before they bought one so I'll just post them here.

It came in three separate decals and I'm the type of person that requires three or four screen protectors before I get one right. Luckily these went on straight and somewhat level. I'd say it's about 1mm off center but that's about as good as I'll get it.

How long has it been applied? How do you feel it deals with wear and tear of use? My biggest fear is a corner peeling up or something akin to that. Some minor occurrence that will cause my OCD to rip the whole thing off

I put it on around the end of November. When I travel I use the Club Nintendo pouch. Haven't had anything snag yet. The pointy gray parts worry me though.

I don't have the XL yet, but yeah, that Hylian decal means I'm getting the blue when I get one. That is amazing looking.

Haven't stuck anything on my awesometacular white 3DS XL or even on my also awesometacular cosmos Black 3DS yet but I'll be looking for inspiration here!

So a solid colour 3DS is playschool, but a 3DS plastered with Pokemon, Yoshi and all manner of kiddy characters isn't?

It's even more Playschool

It's more that I see people complain that the blue and red XL look like such things. Personally, after seeing the two colors in person I don't fall into that line of logic. This thread was an attempt to give people who DO feel that way the avenues to change that perception. As with the Hylian Blue XL there are ways to make the red and blue XL seem less like a child's toy.

Having a pink XL is already falling full-on into "kiddy" territory, so I'm obviously not one who feels my manhood is threatened by owning such a device. Or, I don't care enough about my manhood to have my handheld gaming device define that aspect of me.

Well, I recently imported a 3DS from the US... So I didn't confuse it with the other one....

And yes, I even did the inside.

Note: They're just Gelaskins stuck to a metal case, not the console itself.

Here's my XL back in August when I purchased it... Hard to believe the decal is still pretty much intact after 10 months of hard use. :)

I'm also a fan of solid colors. I want a green ranger green 3ds XL (dragon ranger of course, the OG green ranger)

Yeah I disagree with the common idea of hating the current colors. Because nothing says not-preschool by having a charizard decal.

Those gelaskins are tacky and horrid.

Besides, I'd never put anything on my white 3DSXL, it's pretty much stunning just by itself.

I think I can hold out for a few weeks so Nintendo can announce white and black for North America. Stickers look grimy over time.

Can't stand silver so I commissioned the artist from the OP link to make some slime stickers a while ago, I believe you can buy them as a product on their site

Metal slimes are OK!
