3DS eShop: Link's Awakening DX available ($5.99)

Have they talked about ever having GBA games in the 3DS Virtual Console?

Don't think so but one must think that they want to sell those few quality GB/GBC games first because, let's face it, the GBA library would vastly overshadow its predecessors if they were to be released concurrently.

Nice, playing Link's Awakening for the first time :)

Remember...

"Different Ending: Beat the game without dying. You will see a picture of Marin in the ending."

Go get er Ray!

I bought this game but I'm curious: Has the Gameboy Printer function been replaced by saving to the SD card?

It looks like the functionality was just removed with no replacement. I took my first photo with the mouse and it won't save to the SD card and can't be printed.

100% lazy. How cool would it have been to be able to save those pictures?

I do love how you can only add £10 minimum in the UK. Thx Nintendo :(

£5.40 UK price.

Ouch. Glad I have a US console. Got it for £3.65. Honestly NoE does take the piss sometimes.

Yup, pretty much. They really know how to stick it to the customer. I can only imagine how little work goes into the GB/GBC 3DSWare releases.

I really don't understand why they make it so hard. Why can't they charge tax/vat on the $10 or whatever you top up first and then charge $4.00 or $6.00 per game. Adding $15 to my wallet and buying one $3.99 game for $4.60ish and the $5.99 game for $6.80ish is silly. That leaves me with $3.80 and means I have to top up another $10 to get anywhere near using it all up. (Your problem is even worse though, not being able to top up in £5 increments on top of the above issue I mentioned)

I've already filled 35/60 of the icons on my 3DS menu, and I haven't transferred all my DSiWare. I wonder what's going to happen when it's full.

Yeah, £5.40...

Fuck you Nintendo. You're not getting my money mwahahaha.

I do recall having at least 1000 points before.. or did Nintendo wipe it for some reason?

£5.40 for UK? Holy shit, when does $6 ever translate to that... £4 tops plz.

Still a rip off at that price. If they want to stay competitive with apple in what is essentially the digi download on a handheld market, then price it at £2.50 and be done with it. It's a rom after all.

$9 in the AU store. Should be $5. I bought it, as I'm desperate for something to play on the 3DS currently. I don't see myself paying that much again, not for a ROM dump at least.

Not that i was particularly happy with the price myself, but if you think of it in terms of how much it'd cost to get a cartridge these days... a quick look on ebay shows you'd be struggling to match $9. I was recently in Japan and whilst there are plenty of GB games for 200-400Y, Zelda wasn't ever one of them...

I skipped GBASP as well (don't ask, i don't even know why myself) so this is the first time playing with vibrancy! Well worth it :)

Downloaded the game. I also think the price is a bit too high. 6€ for that is almost not acceptable. I don't think I'll buy many of the GB/GBA VC games in the future. People will say "that's just the price of two coffees" but I just don't think these games are worth that much.

Now if Nintendo releases a game with multiplayer that works via the internet instead of the cable thingy, I'm willing to pay a bit more. I just doubt they would do that.

That's exactly it though. I see no value in what is ultimately a Rom dump. There have been zero enchantments to the games. No achievements (since it doesn't even have that kind of system).

OK, that's right. There's a puzzle in the new dungeon that you can't really solve in black and white, IIRC...

You cant load the room on a B&W gameboy, but if you get into the room using the GBC, save, and put it back on the B&W, it worked fine.

Yep. I got it for $9, $1 left on my account... I figure "hey no way this 20 year old Gameboy Mario game could be more than $1"... and it's $3.

Never again.

6€ is perfectly good for the GB/C games of the same calibre as Link's Awakening.

And to think I will be able to play it any time now because it is always on my 3DS :) Also only 2D Zelda I ever finished. Never the DX version though.

The game is awesome, but it's also an unmodified version of a 12 year old game. It's still great fun and worth playing, but why does Nintendo have to charge 6€ for something that doesn't costs them next to nothing? It would be great if they just charged what they needed to charge (costs for QA, traffic, and stuff like that) instead of charging more just because "they can". I know this is wishful thinking in the corporate world but it's still what I (as a gamer) want. :)

I paid nearly £8 to go and see x-men at the weekend and even though I loved it, I'll doubtless get more hours of enjoyment out of Link's Awakening on my 3ds... Nintendo shouldn't assume I'll pay over a fiver for any old gameboy crap though. Honestly, stuff like tennis and alleyway should be .99p tops!

That's like asking why do companies charge so much money for a product when they could just charge just enough to break even? It's a business, not a charity.

Yep . Seeing as they've removed the printing feature altogether without trying to make it work differently , I guess you could say it's a gimped rom dump .

:p

Fuck you Nintendo Europe £5.40 for this when the US get it for £3.60!! It is annoying enough when you charge extra for the actual hardware and physical games but I can understand that somewhat but there is no fucking way a digitally distributed game should have different prices worldwide.

Great job not reading my whole post!

You basically repeat what I just said (it's business) but do so to correct me?

Nintendo points don't carry over they use real money now like the PS3. I know because I just spent my last 2000 star points on a
500 Nintendo points code to buy Mario Land to be greeted with a message of how they no longer support them when I entered in the code.

*Sigh* Why must you do this Nintendo? I really wonder what sort of sales these VC games get because a few thousand at £6 would not match a few million at £2.

This was my first Zelda game. Playing it now is bringing back so many memories from that Christmas morning when I first started playing the game :) The music in the little town section at the start is still wonderful to listen to.

I actually remember being really stuck right at the beginning of the game when trying to figure out how to get the sword. When I finally realised what I had to do I felt like he smartest person around. It's so dumb now, But back then it was a type of game i'd never played before.

The 3DS VC is not good enough to be compared to the Wii VC. The Wii VC had MUCH more at launch. Zelda, F-Zero, SimCity, and Super Mario 64 vs. Link's Awakening. US couldn't get Kirby's Dream Land? Wario Land II? Donkey Kong?

Wii has a much larger load to blow, while the GameBoy has around a dozen titles making up its cream of the crop selection. They're going to spread it out for at least a year, probably two, I imagine with GB/GBC, before they venture into the world of Game Gear / TG-16 / NeoGeo Pocket. And I think we'd all be extremely lucky with GBA on Virtual Console ever arrives this generation.

For those complaining about Link's Awakening price, it's $12-$20USD for cart alone, pawn shops and luck not withstanding. Even if you manage to pick up a GBC for a similar price, you're spending much more cash on it if you already own a 3DS.

Now I see how people justify piracy. -_-
It's not just a fucking rom dump guys.
The thing the emulator it included as well (each VC release can use a different bulid* to avoid the "this latest version fixes Kirby but breaks Mario RPGs sound" soft of thing emulators can suffer from) as the ROM dump are both things which have been massively devalued thanks to over a decade of emulation really.
*-Its bundled with the VC release with new features added as needed.

They are not seeling the new feautres of this emulator well enough like...erm holding down buttons on start up to change the aspect ratio and have a system border with some sort of 3D effect going...I'd much rather the faux-Super Game Boy Colour mode (full GBC graphics with SGB border that pretty umch every emulator does). Oh I forgot the slightly more accurate palettes and some sort of ghosting effect on GB mono games (but nowhere near as bad as a real Game Boy). Having more options along those lines and the GB camera grumbles everyone else said would make it harder to critise.

Thing is its tough. DSiWare etc would be even more of a hard sale if you could get 5 or so Game Boy games for the same price though at the same time these sorts of prices are enough to make me think "am I going to play this. Why don't I just whip out the my GBC or otherwise not play it on my 3DS" when if it were like £2 it would be more of a "let's do this". Its good they've discovered teird pricing though so we won't have Urban Champion being the same cost as Super Mario Bros.

cause he's not repeating what you said other than saying "its business". You say you want them to charge "what they need" (to break even), he's saying its a business and they charge "what the want" (for profit).

i tried 5 times to steal something in shop at begining village and i cant

not possible? :( :(

It certainly is possible, you may not want to go back to the shop after you steal something though and you'll also be called a different name by the npcs.

Right. I was talking about corporate world and he was talking about profit. Not sure where the difference is as talking about a corporate world already implies that I'm talking about people who want to make a profit? :)

Yeah. I also found that really handy. FAQ open on the browser and the game suspended. Im kinda liking the browser now. I just wish text wrap was working properly.
