[3DS] Kid Icarus Uprising: New Trailer and PR

It looks like a very fun game, and I'm hoping for tons of corny, memorable dialogue.

There's an interview with Sakurai for Kid Icarus Uprising in the latest Nintendo Power, and he came across as being very enthusiastic about this project. I'm pretty excited about playing it.

nintendo characters need to stay silent

this reeks of generic straight to DVD kids cartoon

But... but... when Nintendo games have text everyone says they're behind the times and have no talent for making games. Can't compete with the west and their lavish VO in every game!

The voice acting in the game is no worse than the average Western game with VO these days, guys. Make up your mind what you want gamers.

As long as it plays like Sin and Punishment and has Nintendo's usual quality, im good. Did people complain about Pit's character model appearance in Brawl?

He spoke in Brawl too and it was cheesy. The corny dialogue is just how Sakurai makes games. I think it's more funny than cringe inducing. In any case, it will provide us with quotes that we will be hearing for years.

I agree though, most of them need to be mute, I've spent most of my life building a personality for these characters and I don't want that ruined. Fortunately, I have no such connection with Pit since he sort of disappeared.

So, I guess this part

Additionally, consumers who pre-order at select retailers will receive a bonus download code for the 3D Classics: Kid Icarus™ game, a re-mastered 3D version of the NES original. The download code will be delivered with the purchase of Kid Icarus: Uprising.

means we North American gamers probably aren't getting the same promotion -- register two games with Club Nintendo and get a free download code for 3D Classics: Kid Icarus -- that folks in Europe and Japan got?

If so, boooooooooo!!! :(

Fucking NOA and it's bullshit preorder bonus.

Looks like I'm not playing the 3D classic here.

It doesn't play like S&P at all though. Just on a superficial level.

Maybe they'll also let people buy it with Club Nintendo coins.

90% of North American anime voice acting (I'd say this game falls into that category) is horrible.

Is Minami Takayama still the voice of Pit in Japan? I'd love to play the Japanese version. Pit's voice in Japanese and English is light night and day when playing Brawl.

I find it amusing how some people are acting like Kid Icarus and Pit himself are some sacred cow that shouldn't be changed.

I like the voice acting. And it looks nice. Not sure about the game though, is it third person shooter or a rail shooter or a third person beat 'em up or is it equally all of those things? Also kind of wonder about the length and replayability of the game but I guess we won't know till reviews start coming in.

This preview should answer your questions:

I was surprised that two hours of play time seemed to encompass less than half of the total game (though Nintendo admittedly hasn't indicated exactly how many chapters comprise the game). For a twitchy action game like this, that suggests an unusual volume of content.

Weapons can be swapped for cash, too, and you earn a lot of them, especially since your inventory is persistent across replays and you're strongly encouraged to return to previously completed levels and tackle them.

Sounds very replayable and fairly lengthy for this sort of game. As an aside, it's kind of annoying that the author mixed up Melee and Brawl. Do game writers not fact check?

Well shit, where do I need to pre-order to get the code?

Also, I knew ever since we didn't get the same as EU that it was probably gonna be something like this. The purchase really sounds like it's jam-packed full of things too, so i'm actually really looking forward to this.

Also, now the creation of the next Smash Bros. can begin.

Oh shit - not a Space Kraken! How the fuck did that get there...

Anyway, I want to root for this game - it's giving me a real arcade-y vibe that reminds me of old Dreamcast games. But I can't say I'm not confused. This is like the 5th trailer I've seen for the game and I still have no idea of how it plays, and it really just looks confusing and manic in a lot of places.

But I will say that I love the cheesy dialogue. That's another thing reminding me of the Dreamcast.

I've got mixed feelings, on one hand it looks great and fun but on the other hand I'm fearing the controls will be very uncomfortable. Maybe the CCP will help with grip problems or otherwise the stand :-)

This will be glorious! I can't believe that people are complaining about us getting a non-generic TPS! How many of those have we had this generation? One... Vanquish? It is also worth pointing out that this game will further enrich Nintendo's portfolio, which, without a doubt, is great!

Skipping this - Looks way too scattered and non-cohesive from all the media I've seen. Bit of a shame though, would like a nice action game on the 3DS.

Hell, I'm going to be dropping so much cash this summer when I finally get my mitts on a 3DS. This + RE + MK7 + S3DL = good times

Why are they doing this to Pit?! :'(

I don't see what they're doing wrong with him. This game is quite faithful to the orginal, in that it as some flying parts and some ground parts. And yuo collect hearts and buy stuff with that.
It doesn't look that impressive graphically but I won't care when I play it. Well, if I play it. Still don't have a 3DS and sure won't buy it soon.

I get a slight Starfox vibe from it.

Yeah, they totally ripped the intensity system from TWEWY

What I came in to say.

Not that I mind, though. Hell, in that topic "what mechanics would you want to see in more games" I chose the TWEWY difficulty anti-grinding system, so I'm glad to see it.

TWEWY slider is such an underused concept, but this betting system on top of it makes it even more interesting. Game really sounds ambitious, I'm hyped.

I'm also kinda interested/amused in some of the responses in this thread on the game. Wasn't this series always campy? Why is it bugging folks now?

Left-handed players should definitely consider investing in a Circle Pad Pro to avoid the awkwardness of using the stylus in the right hand though, but based on how the Circle Pad Pro attaches to the 3DS, it looks like the two peripherals aren't compatible. So even though lefties will have to choose between the comfort of the stand and the comfort of using the right slider pad, it's still nice that Nintendo is actually thinking of us by including the support for both control schemes.

Welp, Nintendo better release a demo... because otherwise I'm skipping it. Not going to potentially spend $60 on a title that comes with a peripheral that doesn't support their left handed gaming method. What is the point of giving us the circle pad pro support for lefty gaming but NOT making it compatible with the stand it comes with?

So for a recap:

Basically right handed players get a superior product for $40 while us lefties have to spend $60 just to play it the way that was obviously is uncomfortable in the first place (hence the stand).

I wouldn't be surprised if this game pulls a SM3DL and mass GAF apprehension gives way to praise after release. It is less likely for this game though, for a few reasons (it's not Mario, there's been more negativity longer, people don't like adjusting their opinions).

Personally, I'm worried about the controls on ground sections but I'm totally on board otherwise. As long as I can get used to the controls, I'm good. In terms of features and game design, it sounds right up my alley.

okay i know it's been over a year but has anyone yet figured out why kid icarus needed to appeal to the kingdom hearts demographic

Because 13 year old kids are the only ones who played the NES and GB Kid Icarus games back in the day. Wait no.

I guess I have no fucking clue then.

Why are they doing what to Pit?

Kid Icarus is one of those mythologies that Nintendo fans crafted for themselves that isn't based on much.

I'm not trying to sound mean, but... the character only ever originated from a single game. That wasn't a very noteworthy game, compared to most others. The NES game didn't set any gameplay standards. It didn't even use a consistent style of design throughout itself.

Given the attributes of the character, relaunching him in this kind of game makes as much sense as anything.

The betting system for difficulty sounds very intriguing and is a new idea for games like this too. It sounds as if it's designed to create high replayablity for the chapters.

I still don't see what people are so disappointed with in the game. It looks like a quality game in a genre we don't see enough of - people are complaining about more Sin & Punishment type games??

There were two games. I don't care if they totally change the gameplay. Its the mindfuckingly awful sunday morning cartoon direction that has been slathered on every inch of this game. To me, its like if they had made mario 64 mario based on some shitty shonen anime character.

You can't just dismiss all criticisms because "lol gamers are so fickle".
