4 months on, how reliable is the PS4?

My PS4 likes ejecting disks when in sleep mode. Will probably replace it at some point but not too awful. Tried restoring OS and tightening manual release screw (without proper screwdriver admittedly). I'm just ejecting my disks after use right now :/

It's a really loose screw though by design. I'm not sure whether to turn it with or without full vertical pressure. Maybe somebody knows (it's "springy").

I just turned the screw about 1/4 of a turn. No 'full pressure', just enough to get the screw to move.

The only issue I had was with trophy data getting corrupted though what I believe was Contrast, though I've heard that it's happened with a few different titles.

Basically the problem is that trophy information can't be synced up to servers, or for trophy information to appear even on the system it was earned on until the issue is taken care of through earning another achievement and then synching through the notifications submenu before closing the game.

No other issues outside of that single instance. The noise hasn't been noticeable outside of initial application startups, though I haven't focused on listening for system noises while playing anything on it. Remote play was working like a champ when I was 930-odd miles away from the system. Physically all the components, including the controller, are just fine.

So far I'd give it high marks in reliability, though it is only 4 months. My 360 didn't die until about 3-4 years in with disc laser burn outs and the RROD, and my PS2 didn't have issues until it came across Resident Evil Outbreak.

Controllers are fine but I have a minor issue. After every 3 or 4 stand-bys the ps4 no longer turns on by pressing the ds4 PS button. Turning on the ps4 manually works but no controller would sync to it. The issue goes away if i hold the power button long enough to shut down and restart it, but it's still a bit of a hassle...

Got mine launch day and haven't had any problems with it major or minor so far. With that said since it is first gen PS4 hardware I fully expect it to break one day. I have never had a console last an entire generation.

Had loading problems exiting games and going to menu.
Yeah, yeah this for me too. Only had this after exiting Dead Nation. Very weird.

Aside from that I'm pretty happy. I do have some issues with logging into PSN at times. Sometimes it's ultra fast, other times I have to restart the console to be able to log in. May be due to my router though, although I only have very little problems with my PS3, iPad or laptop in that regard.

430 warframe hours later and there are no problems to report.

DS4 is still entire in one piece with no signs of wear either.

Ps - launch day console.

PPS- I've also played other games and watched Netflix on it for hours as well.

The first issue I have had is regarding the hard drive. It seems to constantly cycle (even idle at the UI screen without a game running) somewhat loudly. It will spin as if loading a game and then slow back down til it stops. Then it repeats this every five seconds or so. I am not entirely sure as to why it is doing this. I went to the Sony Support Forums for help and they asked me to perform a initialization of the system (wiping both the hard drive & reinstalling the OS). This solved my problem for a few weeks.....but then it started back up again. I performed another initialization and this time it only fixed the problem for a couple days. My system is still running fine and the games (I have went all digital) are working. The noise is just distracting and annoying.

The second issue began this week. The PS4 is beeping randomly while off and/or in standby. I am beginning to think I need to send this unit into Sony......something just seems off with it.

Not sure if any of you have encountered either of this issues. I can't seem to find much on my first issue.

For any of you that have sent your system into Sony recently.....what was your turn around time? I am in the US if that makes any difference.

I think mine crashed once on launch day then never again. It's been delightful so far, and I've put a lot of hours into Infamous and Metal Gear lately.

After having the system off (not standby) for 3 days, I turned it on to watch some WWE Network and within 10 minutes the system spit out my Metal Gear disc and then kept on spinning as if trying to eject another one. This is at least the 5th time over a matter of months that this has happened and I've tried all the internet fixes, so I bit the bullet and processed a service request online. Apparently the disc issue is pretty much an insta-acceptance by Sony because I got my automated e-mail about waiting for my coffin to arrive seconds later.

Everything non-disc still works great; unfortunately, I chose the PS4 on launch day because of discs so I want that tray to work.

I guess I'll have to wait on FFXIV, but I'm hoping I have a new friend in time for MLB.

Hey MGR so far your fix has worked got to play SS last night for a good 3 hours without an ejection Thanks for the tip!. Could be due to your fix or the fact that the PS4 has been unplugged since april 22 waiting for a coffin to send it back in(yeah I;m a bit pissed about this... unreal) Also the screw seemed extremely loose was this potentially the problem?

only issue i had was after a session on BF4 (DD) my disc drive was 'searching' for a disc constantly Sony told me to do the maual disc eject as that fixes the issue and it did (so far) ive never had a disc in the PS4 though lol

I once had a power outtage durint the installation of an update (aka the worst time for a power outtage) and i had to reinstall and download games on my ps4 after that it downloaded my previous saves and I didn't lost anyhting

My only issue still remains to be the mini freezes I get every 5 to 10 seconds while playing infamous. Doesn't happen at the beginning of the game or during the final boss battle, but the whole time in Seattle it has bad pop-in and these quick freezes where everything the screen freezes for like a tenth of a second, and then continues. It happens so fast it just seems like a quick stutter, but it's really annoying.

I upgraded my hard drive to a Seagate 1tb Hybrid SSD hoping to fix the issue, and it didn't. All other games play perfectly fine, and even load quicker with the new hard drive. I would say it's just the game, but so many people claim the game is smooth as hell for them. I'm losing my mind gaf!!!

No issues with mine, but I've probably only put in about 50 hours of game time since launch.

Have you tried a different TV?

Had my first real issue today: I put in the Tomb Raider disc and the PS4 ejected it three times before it finally booted up the game. I am assuming the positioning of the disc was off?

My roomate has an incredulous sucky dilemma with his system that Sony (according to him) is ignoring/keeping quiet
(dont believe that myself however lol)
.

His PS4 randomly beeps and turns on to eject phantom games when none are in the drive, without ever pressing/or being near the console. He has literally tried everything such as unplugging it for weeks, reinitializing hdd, database, etc. though he refuses to send it back hoping its a firmware issue that a future software update would amend. Also apparently sending it back does nothing according to the support thread hes been following. I personally think he has a rare faulty unit but IDK anyone else experiencing this phantom disc ejection error? Seems heat based as well, when ppl enter the room it begins beeping violently.

my PS4 fan makes a ton of noise sometimes reading off the disc, I bought it used from amazon warehouse

other then that its been good, happy with purchase

Put MGSV into mine and the drive went crazy, really loud and vibrating the console. Seems ok after a reboot but I'm now slightly worried.

I must admit, the PS4 is prolly my least liked launch console ever.

- It wobbles
- The capacitive buttons aren't responsive

But it works... So, I guess it's reliable.

4 months after launch, my controller ended up with bite marks all over it and the R1 button eaten off. Damn Sony get your shit together. My dog gave me the innocent look so I know it must be a console issue.

I have a launch console and it is having 0 issues.

I have played it basically every single day.

Still just as quiet and quick as day 1. That slide library though needs to go, or needs sorting options or something like that. I have 25 games or so on that list now. Scrolling through them all is a bit ridiculous.

Controller also has no issues. Thumb sticks are still together. Really .. everything is as it was day 1.

Mine has worked perfectly, the OS has yet to crash even once. The only complaint i have is that the store in the first 2-3 weeks did not always function, now its very stable and works.

Just last week i bought a brand new laptop, Windows 8.1, i5, 8 gig ram, 750m Geforce and its already locked up and crashed several times, and i barely did anything

Mine doesn't wobble, and the buttons work as they should.
Mine doesn't wobble, but the touch buttons are a little finicky.

I love that pad though, the deadzone is basically eridicated entirely. Tracking running targets on BF4 is a cinch.

I'll never understand the wobble complaint. The only time I ever touch the console is when changing a disc. It doesn't wobble unless you press down on the corner.

Silly complaint.

Got mine at launch from amazon. It was dead on arrival. The replacement Sony sent me has been flawless ever since. No issues with the controller. Besides the horrible battery capacity. But I keep the rumble off to make it last longer.

- Hardware it's self has had no problems.

- The battery life for my two DS4s is pretty shitty, but it was like that form the start.

- My OS acts really weird if I hit the PS button during weird times, like when a game is loading up.

- I still get crashed to the menu on occasion while playing a game. Last time it happened while I was playing Second Son.

The game is supposed to pause when you bring up the XMB right?

I finished BF4 last night, and just as the closing cinematic started I got a message. So I brought up the XMB, replied, but as I was doing so I noticed a few trophies pop up. I went back to the game and the credits were rolling.

:/

I can't imagine I missed much, and I had no clue what was going on anyway but still!

It's definitely supposed to halt the game when you go to the OS menu, even during cinematics.

The odd one I seem to get sometimes it's where two levels of the menu will overlay on top of each other. I feel like this seems to happen when I bring up the OS menu during game load times.

No problems at all! I randomly leave it in standby mode for a week or two at a time and it always pops up happy to see me.

Actually I was wrong about not having any issues: sometimes when I start it up I'll get no sound until I switch the receiver to another input and back again. Could be the HDMI cable though, and it's so minor I forgot to mention it.

Had the same issue two or three times.
Seems to be a HDMI handshaking issue but nothing serious.

Yeah, I'd probably steer clear of bringing the OS up during loading and saving if you can.

I have 2 controllers, and I am not sure which came with the system at this point. But, both L2 buttons are loose and one just began squeaking quite a bit. The R2 buttons seem solid. What is Sony's controller support? Bought within the month.

I bought a PS4 three weeks ago, manufactured in January 2014, and it was DOA. The usual "light flashes blue forever" kind of deal.

So yes, they definitely still have problems. And judging by how long it took them to ship me a return box (I just got it today), they're getting a lot of service requests.

My optical drive stopped reading disks after about 4 months. Sony's support was pretty good though, as they fixed it and shipped it out in only a day.

Launch day PS4 crapped out a de weeks ago. Disc drive stopped working. I got the 3 year replacement plan with Sony when I bought it so they just sent me a new one, with an extra controller and hdmi cable. If you are on the fence I really recommend getting the insurance with them. It's only 50 bucks and they just replace it if anything happens
