40 Minute QuakeCon Skyrim Demo

Now I know this is slightly off topic, but when people say they spent 100-150 hours in Oblivion for example, how did you stretch out the experience that long? Doing all the quests usually only takes about 50-60 hours.

Lots of walking around killing random shit and finding everything. Granted, you probably could do it quicker than that, but sometimes you find yourself looting stuff and whatnot for hours and the time goes by so quick you lose track. I think I probably put about 160 hours into it over the years, it wasn't like a cumulative thing.

edit: Monocle, re: the crowd reaction, yeah, I liked it a lot, too. C'mon, they're just having fun, feeling special getting to see something before anyone else (and really the only reason the vid would be taken down is because they have/had a NDA deal with QuakeCon; doesn't explain why a camera on a TRIPOD was allowed in there :P).

Not fast traveling and exploring. I spent 120 hours on my first character and only beat the Mages guild, arena and some side quests. Never touched any of the other factions or the main quest.

Morrowind I spent closer to 400-500 hours on. Still haven't done everything.

Other than those two games though, I usually don't spend more than 60 hours on RPG's or games in general. Other exception being Mass Effect 2, took me around 60 hours on each of two thorough playthroughs.

I racked up 140+ hours on one play through. It's not that difficult, all quests including dlc, discovered all locations, and time spent min/max skills to get max level bonuses. Standing in one area and casting a fire spell on yourself then healing over and over does tend to get tiresome.

Doing all the questlines should take longer than that. Plus just mucking about and exploring, and Shivering Isles.

This is what Blue Ninja promised me. Damned fool will be the end of me!

Kind of off-topic, but am I the only one who doesn't like mods, even good ones? I feel like they're not the original game anymore and almost feels like "cheating"...

Adding brand new content and graphics/audio ones are okay, but all these mods that tweak gameplay and balancing aren't my cup of tea. What's to stop me from going into the console to unlock a chest just because I don't like lockpicking? What about console killing a mob that is only susceptible to magic?

Maybe it's just me.

I feel similar, at least when you're playing for the first time. once you've finished the game properly i think mods are alright to mix things up.

Controller??? Is it a console lead dev platform or pc? I think I know the answer and it is making me sad :(

Within the first few minutes Howard explains that the PC-version will look better.

That's not modding, that's cheating.Mods don't eliminate challenge from the game, most of the time they do the opposite. You can mod the game to absurdity, it's up to you. Most of the mods I used with Oblivion fixed a lot of the consolitis and tweaked some gameplay.

Self-restraint? And I don’t see what that has to do with mods.

I like mods that change existing stuff because it’s obvious that in a lot of cases the developers did a poor job at it. UI clearly not designed for the pc, horrible level scaling, or just unsatisfying gameplay can easily be fixed with them.

Looks don't matter. Oblivion was so bad day one because the "conveniences" made for the consoles. The ui was terrible (stuff on screen, inventory managment, ect), and the game in general was so dumbed down compared to Morrowind.

Nude mods. Don't forget to mention the nude mods! It's uh, for realism! Yeah that's right!

I ended up having to get a body replacer so I could get a mod that replaced all the female armor with female versions, and it was a little ridiculous, but worth it.

Sorry to bump my question, but does anyone know? It would be a step down from Oblivion if you couldn't.

I dunno, I agree you should be able to, but you need get more DMG since you won't have your shield.

Looks pretty good. Much more to my tastes then Morrowind was. Though, to make a minor nitpick, I'm little disappointed by the dragon's design. It's tiny wings look really silly.

It needs to be said again - worst audience ever! They were so annoying!

I bet a lot of companies would dream of that kind of audience reaction.

.

No idea how anyone could possibly hate on the audience. They were just nerdgasming, just like any of us would with our personal highly anticipated titles.

I didn't play Oblivion, wondering if I should before Skyrim is out. Morrowind was one of my favorite games (Azura's ending words make you feel LIKE A BOSS), but I just couldn't get into Oblivion. Are there are substancial mods which re-write the game (kinda like Morrowind 2011 project)?

And again. A bunch of guys acting like 13 year-olds. Holy crap.

But the game footage - jeezuz. The demo footage we've seen elsewhere dont do the game justice. Combat is still 'Elder Scrolls', but my god, the interface and the landscapes and the map and the dungeons and the music and the magic spells/shouts and even the new design of the books! Just glorious. Absolutely glorious.

And again. Awful crowd.

EDIT - thanks for sharing, too, guys. This stuff needs to be seen.

Two things;

After being highly skeptical, I will now buy Skyrim on day one (probably). Looks awesome.

And I never want to go to QuakeCon if this video is indicative of the level of intelligence of most of its attendees.

No, just no. I haven't "nerdgasmed" since I was an idiotic teenager and even then, never to such an embarrassing extent.

I don't think the crowd was completely nerdgasmed, They were certainly excited since they were getting to see the game in motion.

I had no issue with the crowd yelling the most random shit out, I thought it was awesome. It was clear Todd wanted to stay on a very straight course and the crowd wanted to try random shit, Jumping into the water, killing npc's and dogs etc. It's hard to make someone go off course on a presentation they designed but if they do it's usually for hilarious results.

Awesome demo, the game looks leaps and bounds better than Oblivion. It is crazy to put the two side by side and see how much we've advanced with the same hardware,

Check out this thread.

It will tell you everything you need to know about modding oblivion.

Lol at the "KILL IT KILL IT" chants. Not sure why people are complaining, that sounds like a crowd that's actually interested. Way better than a dead crowd with no reaction. Looks impressive on the 360, can't wait for PC footage!
