40 Minute QuakeCon Skyrim Demo

The crowd is hilarious in this they cheer anything. Game looks nice needs more horseys though. Also i was eating salmon when he showed it spooky. Dark brotherhood was whoop worthy I like to think John Carmack was in the front row starting those chants...

It's always the same for me since Morrowind.
I am super excited and when I play the game, I'm bored to death after a couple of hours.

Still I will get this but I hope they have improved the formula. I don't care about the combat. It's the back and forth between locations tha drives me crazy.

I want to get it for the ps3 but only if it has better framerate than Oblivion Goty. It was around 20 fps I think. If not, my PC is good.

Bruce Nesmith. He was a senior designer on Fallout 3.
Cool thanks, not the director of Oblivion I take it?

EDIT: He specifically says why they're using the 360 build, because the kbm is not ideal for the situation.

Seriously. I had to mute the video after a few minutes because of that. I can understand being excited to see new footage in person but that was crazy.

I hope we get to see some PC footage before the release. Why wouldn't you show the most impressive looking version or maybe that is the whole issue. For a console game Skyrim looks impressive, the PC version will probably be nowhere near the graphical quality of other titles in the genre, e.g. Witcher 2.

As long as they fix the terrible animations I will definitely get the game though. The rest modders will take care of.

They then erupt in cheers and laughter.

Atleast we got to see other things because of the crowd.

Yeah, he seemed kind of nervous to go off the beaten path at first, but knew he had to play to the crowd. Completely different world compared to giving presentations for journalists.

I can't believe you guys continue to complain about the crowd. Heaven forbid people get excited.

Well said. What, are they supposed to sit there with their noses up in their air, critiquing like a bunch of snobbish wine critics? We are dealing with video games here, folks. They are supposed to be about fun and that is all these guys were doing, is having fun.

Besides, it's not like Bethesda pumps out a new Elder Scrolls every year like Activision does with COD. It is a special occasion when a new Elder Scrolls releases and it has been 5 years since Oblivion. People have every right to be excited for it, especially since it is looking so damn good. If only more games came out that made me feel like a kid again.

Just started watching the video, the crowd are so irritiating.

The game looks great. The performance is pretty bad on 360 by the look of it, but maybe they'll step it up before they ship.

I won't be playing the game for a year or so, but it certainly seems to be shaping up well. I hope the FO3 director isn't directing this because he's cranking on FO4 for next-gen.

Finished watching it. I think this is a game that I'm certain that I will purchase when it is released. I need to see what it's made of.

The menus look awful, gimme the nice ol inventory diablo like PLEASE!!
Also, consoles... Elder Scrolls? This is a painful generation.

Does GAF believe that a Skyrim with all the upcoming DLC will be almost certain to come in the future? I could go for that but... waiting until there might be hard.

And I already have great titles on my list for November.

skyrim looks good, but oblivion is an awful, awul game. Im not expecting much

Awful? Really? I'm not a huge fan of the The Elder Scrolls up to this point because of the typical Bathesda problems (people don't react to getting hit, sideways animations, creepy dialogue animations..etc)..but even I wouldn't go as far as saying it's anywhere close to awful. Oblivion may not have been as enjoyable as Morrowind..but it was still very ambitious.

Oh, and that demo for Skyrim looks incredible. Day 1 purchase for me now..they've honestly fixed every little nitpick that used to take me out of the experience. The added polish in the new engine will probably elevate the series to God-Tier for me; something I've been hoping for for a long time.

You mean a disc release for the consoles?

I think a GotY edition is very likely, and a sure thing on PC.

EDIT: And I think Oblivion was 'awful'.

I'm glad they're having a great time. And it was fun to see the Bethesda folks respond to their requests.
The only thing he listened to was jumping in the water. Whereby he waded gently in an ankle-deep puddle. I know Todd had to have been getting annoyed as hell. It was bad enough watching it on video. Cant imagine how Todd himself felt as he had the pleasure of reacting to this pubescent-acting group of guys.

God, stop defending this crowd, people. They were crazy embarrassing.

I wish they'd show footage of the PC version. I'd like to see if they're going to do anything different with the PC UI or just give PC gamer's the same UI as the console version like they've done with Oblivion and Fallout 3. Who am I kidding? History tells me they won't change anything outside of the button prompts.

This game is going to look so amazing in a few years time.
So true. I'm with you there. I didn't watch the video but downloaded the HD version for archival purposes. I'm anxious to see the game!

Of course it will, just like with Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout.

The UI looks fine for PC, it's almost identical to BeoPlayer, which I think is about the best MP3 player on Windows.

Nope, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (& Morrowind) lead designer was Ken Rolston. He left BGS and joined Big Huge Games to become lead on Kingdoms of Amalur, which also looks pretty good.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it's already a huge improvement over Oblivion.

Taken down from the site in the OP, thank god for mirrors. If the reactions in this thread are anything to go by, this will be a treat.

I've finished it now, it looks like a very impressive world they've built, the combat still looks horrible to me, but I have no doubt it'll be worth putting up with to get to play around in that world.

I will be waiting for a GotY Ed to be on sale on Steam, but it looks cool.

Sigh... hate to say this but it looks amazing. I love how the design of the dungeons seems less Oblivion and more Morrowind.

And the shouts = Brilliant.

Man, people should play more singleplayer games infront of large crowds.
One wolf appears and suddenly we are in the colosseum "YEAH WOOOO KILL IT! KILL IT! WOOHOOOO! HAIL CAESAR! HAIL CAESAR! HAIL CAESAR!"

It would be harder to convince me there WON'T be DLC for any AAA title from this point forward.

I would assume there will be DLC within six to twelve weeks of release.

He isn't asking if there will be DLC, he's asking if the DLC will eventually be bundled with the game on a disc.

Although actually, was the Oblivion GotY on 360 a single disc? It might not be possible to do it this time because of the size.

EDIT: Is this game even one disc?

LMAO at this crowd so far. I'm about 8 minutes in.

Really though, if I were showing off my product to a crowd, and I was getting a response like this, I'd be pretty damn pumped.
