40 Minute QuakeCon Skyrim Demo

So... does anyone have an idea for their first character? I think I'm going to go with a Heavy-Armor Nord with a Longsword and a Shield. I'm going to try and use no magic or bows at all, so when I replay the game with a new character (assassin/mage), it'll still be a refreshing experience.
I'll probably recreate my spell/sword Orc from Oblivion.

I will be a Breton most likely a thief build with moderate magic use.

Battlemage Nord. A healthy mix of a dual wielding weapons and spell casting.

So I'm replaying through Oblivion to try and hold me over until Skyrim, and the fucking adoring fan keeps coming back to life. I murdered him in Frostcrag Spire so that no one would know, and then while I'm in the middle of an Oblivion Gate he just appears out of no where. I see this civilian running around and I'm like why the hell is this guy in here. I kill everyone, and then I realize who it is. In the middle of doing that gate, he gets killed again, so I'm like ok now he should be gone for good.

Start doing the OG outside of Bruma, and guess who fucking shows up again? I don't understand why he keeps coming back. He has died three times now. Hopefully the third time is the charm.

I thought FO3 did a good job of balance for items and helath etc. I can't remember how many times I had to drink out of a toilet or a sink just to get HP and then I had to worry about RADS and find a cure for that. In NV there was so much purified water and food everywhere you would never have to worry about running out. I had to rarely even use a stimpack because of all the Sunset Saspirilla's all over the place. I attribute that all the hardcore mode which was not really hardcore but just a set of chores I had to keep doing through the game.

NV was a step backwards as far as I am concerned. Yeah, they did some really good things but it basically comes down to I like F03 much better and prefer Bethesda's take on the series as oppossed to Obsidians.

With that being said I don't care if they add it as long as it does not affect the people who don't want to use it........like to many buffs and other items.

My experience was completely different. In FO3, I never had to eat or drink anything because taking a nap for an hour would completely heal you (including crippled limbs). By the time I stopped playing, I had about 1000 Stimpacks and hundreds of rounds of ammo for every weapon. You couldn't walk five feet in FO3 without tripping over a medkit, ammo container or bed. Supermutants and deathclaws were also very underpowered and posed little to no threat.

When you played New Vegas in Hardcore mode, sleeping wouldn't heal anything and crippled limbs could only be healed with Hydra or Doctor's Bags. Definitely made the game harder than FO3. Unfortunately, chems, ammo, food and caps were everywhere, just like in FO3.

Overall, I liked NV more than FO3. It was more challenging, had much better writing, much more open-ended quests and was generally more faithful to the first two games. FO3 had better dungeons but that's about it.

I didn't see it mentioned earlier in the thread, and I didn't watch this whole video on purpose, but did they ever say if the PC version would use a hotbar of some kind for abilities?

Is Skyrim going to have some sort of morality system like in Oblivion?

You'll get comments from the NPC's depending on what you've done, but the visible fame/infamy score might not be in anymore.

Yes, there isn't a visible system, but the game does track your choices and responds accordingly.

Not sure what you mean by hotbar. You can select a bunch of items that can be quickly selected without loading up the menu, and I'm sure there will be key assignments like there was before.

With 2 followers, New Vegas was a walk in the park. Boon was headshotting people before i even knew they were there, and Ed-e was mopping up the waifs and strays. I had to send them home, it was ridiculous. I was running about without a care in the world, letting my team do all the work. You pretty much -have- to play Hardcore in order to get some sort of a challenge from NV.

Remember the screenshot people could vote for? They still haven't released it yet: apparently taking a screenshot is akin to one of Hercules' 12 labours.

Fortunately, once we do get it, more character shots will follow soon afterwards. Per the Beth forums:

I'm working with them on it. I know we're late on delivering the screen, but we want to get something awesome for you guys.

The good news is you'll be seeing more character shots shortly afterwards.

I think it was Pete Hines that said something on twitter about the shot. They had it taken and ready to go but then they decided to change it at the last second. I just want more media dammit.

What is deemed 'good' or not is all going to be subjective in the end either way. All I was illustrating is that there are always going to be people that find something to complain about, because not everyone is going to get what they want. My central point is that this does not mean the game itself is lacking in general. It is merely a matter of opinion.

johntown said:
I can see why some people complain. They keep stripping things out of the game. Not on the level of Mass Effect 2 or anything but there are some people who will not be happy unless the game is called Morrowind 2.

Personally, I think the new menus are great and a welcome change from Oblivion.

I was just commenting generally... not responding to any specific point/issue or particular game.

Ok cool, I never played the PC version of Oblivion so I just remember how they did it on PS3. Then in the video I noticed all the menus needed for navigating abilities and I wondered how the PC version would go. It seems like it would make sense to have a hotbar on the screen where you could just place the abilities you want quick access to.

Don't know if posted, but AusGamers has a preview up:

http://www.ausgamers.com/features/read/3096375

Not too much new, but they got an hour with, supposedly, the very newest build. He talks about paying bards to sing at a tavern to lull everyone to sleep and steal their stuff, to finding a secret riddle door in a pond.

Like I said, nothing really new, but its a good read, imo.

He only shows up when you enter Oblivion? Maybe by killing him the first time you've permanently banished him to Oblivion. :p

Probably just a weird glitch though haha.

I'd like to try a true stealth/assassin type character out but I guess that will come down to how effective it is. In Oblivion I couldn't kill shit with that build unless the slider was on super casual easy mode.

Adoring Fan is Daedroth! ADORING FAN AE DAEDROTH!

Goddamn, Mankar Camoran speaking to you as you made your way through Paradise was one of the most memorable parts of Oblivion.

New Dunmer screenshot?!

Update: bigger pic

Wow, the Dunmer won, I didn't expect my fellow gamers to make the right choice. That pic is kinda dumb, I want to see some red eyes and sweet face tats, but whatever.

That's on all versions, you press a button and all your chosen favorites are listed.

Nightblade. The only class I've ever played. Part thief. Part mage. All awesome.

Also what I'm thinking about playing. One handed, destruction, alteration, sneak, lock picking and maybe light armor.

Singleplayer game of the forever confirmed.

Very excited for this. My SP game is sorted and so is my MP game (BF3). Don't need anything else.

Awesome screen. Everything from the sky (aurora borealis confirmed) to the Dunmer itself. I like the town also. Any speculation as to where it is?

I always play a Nightblade too, but with no class or attribute system I have a feeling that most people will end up with a "jack of all trades" character.
There is a system, its just that the way you play at the beginning defines it for the game rather than picking it out from a list.

So hot, god this game is going to be awesome. Want to see a lot more on Orcs, Khajiit and Elves, but it's probably best I don't nah mean.

"Jack of All Trades, Master of None"

Ugh, I hate playing these types of classes. I just separate the different quests between three different classes (warrior/mage/assassin), and play through the game with three different characters. IMO, it makes the game much more immersive.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and the Dunmer looks cool. It'll be interesting to hear them talk after hearing Oblivion's Dark Elves that all sounded stuck up.

I don't like the screen. Should have been attractive female rogue... prove you can do this Bethesda!

Finally watched the demp in its entirety. Game is looking great and a definite step up from Oblivion. But that crowd. Oh man, that crowd. Fucking embarrasing.
