hardly obscure, but Deja Vu was also totally awesome.

I think I managed to get to a point where I was in a dead end. I remember calling some Nintendo help line and they said I had to restart the game since I was essentially stuck :(

holy shit - I've never seen that! the interface is pretty much identical to Shadowgate from what I recall.

Same company. :)

Deja Vu is basically Film Noir Shadowgate.

yes this game was VERY good.

excellent choice.

Did you not play Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge? It surpasses the first game and has a lot of replay value over Battle Clash. Tornado FTW!

nope I never did

your first 2 games look like mario and DK clones Santa

everyone should play gumshoe, yes everyone!!!

What is this game and why have I never heard of it? Did it come out in the US? How much is it? And please don't tell me it sucks.

It does suck. I don't know why there was such a fuss about it. Really generic platformer.

Does it include indy games? I can't list 5 off the top of my head but I want to point out of my my all time favorites.
I've been plaything this game for years.

Here is a good write-up about Noctis IV and NICE (the user created version with expanded features).
It requires a lot of patience and imagination but it's a fun 'game' or non-game based on current interpretations of what a game is.

Edit: Sadly the official community website hosting the game appears to have gone down today.

Ahh... this game looks awesome, but I can't find any working sites! All of them seem to be down.. could you provide me with a working link of the best version?

Yes. That game was very fun, particularly when playing co-op. It reminds me of a few other games that no one talks about anymore, but I enjoyed: Heavy Barrel and Gain Ground.

Oh sweet Zeus, thank you for posting about Noctis. This game deserves much love, despite it's archaic interface.

And why did nobody tell me this game existed, I loved Shadowgate back in the day, this looks just as great.

Galaxy 5000 (Galaxy 5000 Racing in the 51st Century) is a racing game developed by Activision for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game takes place in the future, in outer space. It features the racing of futuristic craft that can battle each other for finishing spots in the race. Each craft is also upgradeable and with each upgrade comes better shielding and weapons.

Looks can be very decieving. Gumshoe is a zapper game, like Santa mentioned. You shoot obstacles out of his way, and shoot him to make him jump.

Wrecking Crew is more a puzzle game than anything else, you run around knocking out walls/ladders/pillars with your sledgehammer, trying to destroy everything as fast as possible.

Really fun game I wasted way too much time with on the Apple II back in the day

One of the best RPG experiences I've had. The premise was so cool, and I loved the monster class morphing at key levels.

Truly amazing effort by Game Arts to bring the look and feel of the show to games, with stunning results. Still visually impressive even now. No FMV crap here, this is rocking a full-out, ground up animation system. GREAT humor, just like the series.

Oops! Initially forgot one of my favorite shooters of all time! Spriggan was one of the best the PC-Engine had to offer. Serious shame it never came to the US.

1.) Herzog Zwei - Genesis
5Aq5_1188845549_herzogzwei1.jpg

hz1.gif

one of the greatest games ever made - the first fully-realized RTS game of any significance. 3 years before Dune II. Herzog Zwei is the most addictive game I've ever played. it's literally crack in a 4-meg cartridge

2.) Aldynes - SuperGrafx

aldynes.png

Aldynes11.jpg

Aldynes_04.gif

exclusive side-scrolling shmup with exellent gameplay and some nice special effects in later levels.

3.) The Astyanax - Arcade

yAstyanax,_The.png

nice action game that's extremely similar in some ways to Legendary Axe on the TurboGrafx but with pumped up visuals and cool artwork

4.) Blade Master - Arcade
cool beat em up by Irem

5.) Golden Axe: The Revenge Of Death Adder- Arcade
the true sequel to Golden Axe. unlike Golden Axe 2 on Genesis, this is the real deal

Focusing on last gen, in alphabetical order:

Doshin the Giant (slow paced and utterly relaxing, great learning curve, more complicated than it seems)
Gotcha Force (extremely addictive mixture of Pokémon, Mega Man and 3D real-time battles)
Kirby Air Ride (my most played multiplayer game of last gen)
Lost Kingdoms 2 (AWESOME action-strategy RPG; I also have the first one, but it's nowhere near as good)
Red Card (fun arcade-style football game, lacks cooperative multiplayer though)

Mr. Bones (Saturn)

Crash 'N' the Boys Street Challenge (NES)

Nodes of Yesod: Spectrum 48k

I had no idea what I had to do, I just liked the Mole.

Cobra Triangle: NES

Rare to the rescue, again. In Speedboats!

Low G-Man: NES

I picked this up on a whim, it was really surprising and a lot of weird fun.

Low G-Man

Motorhead: PlayStation

I don't know what God was shining down on me the day this landed in my lap to test. One of the greatest racing games I ever played, just pure, fast, exciting racing. Great looking game for the time and had some of the most awesome track design since wipEout. I actually preferred it over wipEout.

Tech Romancer: Dreamcast

Eclectic mix of giant robots hitting eachother. Oh Capcom, I long for the days where you had the balls to take more risks. Loads of fun, crazy special moves.

Well, I have no idea if these are good games or not, as I played them when I was really young, but these are some games that I enjoyed as a child and haven't really seen mentioned on forums before:

Morph - Amiga

Pang - Amiga

PP Hammer - Amiga

Silkworm - Amiga

Wolfchild - Amiga

We really need to get some Amiga games on the Virtual Console. These are just some of the more obscure games that I haven't seen people talking about, but there are plenty of classic games on the system.

damn I wanna play that! I'd heard of Death Tank and Death Tank Zwei but never knew what they were about or how I could play them. needs to be XBLA'ed immediately.

I don't know what obscure means around here, so I'll just say Cho Ren Sha 68k, Blocksum, and Blue Wish Resurrection. They're all free, google them.

Thanks for the heads-up on Noctis. This looks awesome.

But the link to the write up isn't working for me, and the official site seems down. :(

Driver - Game Boy Color
Terrible graphics but a really fun and addictive game once you started playing. I don't think I ever beat it, but I definitely played the hell out of it.

Secret of Evermore - SNES
I love alchemy!
soethraxx.gif

Metal Gear Solid - Game Boy Color
Perhaps not terribly obscure, but one of the best handheld games ever made and I don't think it ever really got the attention it deserves.

That's all I can think of right now.

Someone else who has played it! I loved this game as a kid. My grandfather would buy games for me to play every summer I came over, mostly Sierra adventure titles from the Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest and Kings Quest series but one summer he got this instead. I've bandied about the idea of finding the game and replaying it but I think I'd rather just continue to view the game through rose tinted glasses.

Anyways, the problem I have with these threads is actually naming something someone else hasn't....MDK and MDK 2?
