It's always been mostly crap or mediocre stuff all along, but I have to say that personally, the music toward the end is much worse. At least a lot of the R&B is fluffy and inoffensive, some of the shit at the end just hurts to listen to. Just like always, much good music exists, it's just not usually the most popular.

Nooo, unless you have a hard time enjoying most music. The section from "Independent Women" to "Hot in Hurr" (around 13 minute mark) is almost all quality

What's with all this slow, sappy ballad shit at the beginning?

Early 90s fucking sucked.

Not gonna lie, it's a bit of a nostalgia overload.

OH FUCK RICKY MARTIN

lol the songs slowly get worse and worse

And by starting in 1993, they skipped five of her number ones.

Someone else did 50s-1993. That's why this person started at 1993.

Anyway, this brought back so many memories during the 90s.

The 2000s fell off HARD with songs that just don't matter. AT. ALL. I told my friend that in the 90s, Pop/R&B was good/non-repetative. Early 00s, it was Hip Hop that brought the A game. But late 00s it's "rock" music that's at least not terrible. Everything else on this list is trash.

Eh I am not on the bandwagon of people claiming everything new is terrible. There are always people saying this and they are ALWAYS wrong. Back in the 80's and 90's people were saying the exact same thing.

Some days the delusions of people who pretend that they are on the cutting edge of music and taste in general disgust me.

Haha, Informer.

The drop in quality is not surprising. Today I checked Futureshop's boxing day CD deals and clicked "rock". I got Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Selina Gomez. Under motherfucking ROCK! The fuck happened?

That was great. Didn't see the drop in quality you guys are talking about. Music changes, there are a lot of great recent songs.

My two observations:

  • The high point for me personally is the Timbaland-Timberlake combo from around 2007. Sexyback, My Love, Promiscuous, Man Eater, Say it Right, ... All great songs that became hits within a short period of time. And I still enjoy all of those songs today.

  • Overall, the one artist that I seem to like the most on a consistent basis, is Rihanna. Not all her number one hits are great (though a couple are), but none of them are offensively shitty either. And she has been dominating the charts the past few years surprisingly.

CrazySexyCool is such a good fucking album, Creep's still a jam. Fun listen that would've been much more with decent audio quality.

That other poster was right. After Eminem, there is a huge pile of shit. Took like 10 minutes after the first Eminem song to find anything resembling decent.

Yeah I think MMMMBOP just made me gag a bit and reminds me of the decline of MTV...

I still hold 2003-2005 near to my heart with the awesome clubbing songs (aka nostalgia from the college days).

Shit got real when I heard "I must confess..."

And oh, Genie in a Bottle was number one?

Also, Mariah was like the Rihanna of the 90s, huh?

Unpretty still remains a favorite song until today. What a beautiful song.

Destiny Child's first hit for me was Say My Name -- I can't even remember No No No.

-- It's interesting how there's a sore lack of ballads in there. The only one that really stuck out was the Titanic song.

Seemed like Mariah Carey and Beyonce (w/ or w/o Destiny's Child) had like half the list.

Best songs on the list were One Week, Bailamos, and Firework.

You're probably looking at me funny, but I don't care.

still can't believe Shaggy went like .. what was it, 10x platinum?? on an album that was out for SIX MONTHS in the previous year without airplay, then blew up all of a sudden.

It Wasn't Me and Ms. Jackson played back to back and I puked in my mouth.
