Yeah it's all with a goal in mind. The plant kicking I think was basically him showing off the engine and how advanced it was for its time. Most times he's doing things which trigger unique Codec conversations, or finding easter eggs.

The game can certainly be defined as a zeitgeist of the early 2000s. They actually changed a lot of stuff right before release due to 9/11.

They finished MGS2 and Dogg went straight in to GZ. Not sure if they're playing MGS4 as the release time for the TTP may come before they finish it. Looks like they're in full TTP hype mode now until release.
Edit - Yeah he just said they're doing GZ now because they may be able to stream TTP in 6/7 hours.
First time actually listening to the tapes was their last GZ run, thats some dark dark stuff with Paz and Chico, honestly never realised the MGS series went to those places or how sure I feel about that, all the other games give off this campy semi serious feel.

The use of the word, "Huh?" in MGS is so awkward. It reminds me of all the strange startled/confused sounds from guards.
The other games don't go that dark. Hell, I can't think of many games ever that approach that vile stuff. I know I could have done without the detailed account of the horrors they were apparently subject to and it's strange to have that stuff juxtaposed with all the silliness.

GZ and I assume TPP are the darkest (though possibly not most depressing) games in the series. The main mission of GZ also keeps a fairly serious and consistent tone throughout, as opposed to rapidly switching between serious and funny moments on a dime.
IIRC I think there was an article where Kojima says that he wanted to keep a lot of the goofier elements separate from the serious moments so the side missions have more humor than the main story.
In MGS1's good ending, it's implied that Ocelot raped Meryl.

Ocelot says something along the lines of "ill get rid of her after i have a little fun".
But it could also mean that he tortured her because of the time and place where he says it.
My memory is kinda fuzzy on this one.

lmao just slamming a fourth passenger onto the jeep and letting game physics carry him on the car trip.
i've tried and failed to do that several times. Once I took a wrong turn, flipped the jeep over and fission mailed.
Anytime I've played GZ and extracted a ton of prisoners that's how I did it after I saw Dogg do it LOL. It's great. I hope it still works in TPP (for when you need to evac a base to get to a safe distance away to fulton them away).
