MGS1 name, MGS3 emotions, MGS2 equipment. Yeah BBs are extremely bland.

Kinda cheapens the original villains too by having that naming scheme.

It really doesn't help that they regurgitate a lot of stuff in those battles, and a lot of the new stuff they bring to the table is laughably easy to avoid (jumping on a bed to avoid Octopus' rolling attack being the biggest offender). I think only Crying Wolf deserves to be called a good boss, because that at least had a decent challenge to it (minus the exploit) and finally gave us the answer to what would happen if we had to fight The End and the Ocelot Unit at the same time.
At the time, as 4 appeared to be "THE END!" with loud speakers and bright lights, it seemed like a good idea to combine all the previous stuff into this "final" game.

Oh man, vibrating penguin. So good. This stream sums up why I'm indifferent to MGS4. Best gameplay, worst story and characters. At least we can laugh at it.

I would argue that the excessive fanservice is not necessary to accomplish this goal. There are plenty of moments in MGS4 that give a sense of finality on their own.

Yeah, call me a funhater, but I've come to the realization that drk is worst part of this stream.

(lol @ tunak tunak tho)

DRK is awesome, he just has that abrasive asshole personality that might turn some people off. I enjoy his runs (especially when he does MGS1 or 2) but I can see how some don't like him.

I find him to be a nice contrast, I don't know. Not every streamer on the channel needs to be nice lol.

Plus he fills the spot that would be sorely lacking if he wasn't around: someone with the absolute perspective that MGS1 and MGS2 are the only good games in the series lol. He holds the series to a high standard.

Vamp and Raiden are the worst characters in the series. MGS2 would have had no one complaining if the plant section had starred a reprogrammed Grey Fox with no memory.

Naomi and Grey Fox would have been much more interesting as well, replacing Rose.

I like this guy, he's not afraid to call out bullshit in a series he loves.

Yup I agree, both games are probably the weakest in the series, just my (and his) pinion, don't jump on me MGS4 and TTS fans :)

He doesn't like MGS3? :O

Thank you, I've been trying to put how I feel about him in words, and this sums it up perfectly. I turned off the stream earlier because listening to someone verbally abuse video game characters wasn't fun any more. (Even though it WAS Rose and Naomi.)

There is nothing special about Grey Fox other than his coolness factor. He is barely a character at all.

This is true. Although I liked the point DRK made during MG2 that nearly every Solid Snake game (Except MG1) has a returning character coming back as a ninja. (Which is obvious, but I'd never realized that the trope started with MG2.)

You save him in MG1, he actually has the best story in MG2, and is great in MGS. Grey Fox actually has the most interesting story that was never fleshed out in any of the other games.

<frank caliendo madden> Now here's a guy that knows how to fight. Fight hand to hand in a mine filled room. Lose and die, get brought back and that's the only thing you can basically remember.

It's not his favorite. I think his ranking goes MGS2 > MGS1 > MGS3. But I don't think he outright hates MGS3 like MGS4 or PW. So, more of a, "It's fine." than anything else. He has some issues with it iirc.

Like anytime someone in the chat says MGS3 is their favorite he has remarked on how stupid they may be to think that. But he doesn't hate MGS3.

That's not saying much since there isn't much of a story in MG2. Frank "Hunter" was a half white solder that was saved twice by Big Boss. He tried to get his Girlfriend over the Berlin Wall, but failed, then he defected to Big Boss's side.

He later blew up his said girlfriend.

The guy is a dick.

This is true.
It's not true at all.
Gray Fox has a ton of character that was squeezed into so little screen time. He shows what happens to a warrior that wasn't able to find any joy outside of the battlefield (AKA the path Big Boss took), and is also pivotal to Naomi Hunter's background and motivations.

That and he sacrifices himself to help Snake, showing him that if he is going to fight on the battlefield at all, that he should fight for what he believed in. This is the driving moment that turns Snake into what he was in MGS2. I consider that single line of dialogue the one most important moment in the entire series series.

You could easily say that about every single character in MGS1. They barely have personalities just cool designs and voice acting and maybe one or 2 traits like 'this guy speaks russian and likes to torture people!! or this guy is a native american and crows follow him around! obviously they could have developed the character further in later games like they did with all the other characters.

You pretty much answered it for me. I don't consider having a backstory as a basis for being a decent character. If that was the case, we can all craft decent character using the Drebin Generator.
