To me MGSV is GOTY easily. The story is weak but the gameplay is fucking amazing.

Watching Drk29 beat MGS5 for the first time since I missed it. This guy is very dedicated to the series, even if it pisses him off. He loves the series that much. He talks about it over an hour.

Those are two different things though. For me it's also easily GOTY but as a narrative sequel I've been waiting for for five years it's garbage.
Kojima created certain expectations with his trailers, his Moby Dick stuff, his tweets. When the final game delivers on literally none of those aspects that's just terrible and for hardcore fans pretty heartbreaking.
Go watch the Nuclear trailer again and tell me how much of that trailer represents the final game in terms of narrative direction, theme and atmosphere. The whole "Big Boss becoming a demon" stuff is total bullshit. Which, given the story of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, was supposed to be a HUGE deal.
Man, even I can rant about this shit for an hour, let alone guys who ran a 500-hour marathon dedicated to the series. Their emotional investment is huge, and so is the disappointment.
All three have apparently played each game in the series over 100x. That includes MGS4 and Peace Walker. I'm not sure what kind of sane person plays a game he loathes 100x.

I think they like MGS3 at least, although it's not their favorite. And I think they like Peace Walker. They definitely have a problem with 4 though, especially Drk. Last night Drk said 4 was better than 5.

The most frustration comes from the fact the game is clearly incomplete, the story doesn't finish properly it just abruptly ends. And it also doesn't meet the expectations the trailers set up.
It really just depends on the person on how the game is: how much does gameplay mean to you vs story? And if story matters a lot to you (like Dogg and drk, aka MGS faithful) then it being incomplete is unbelievably frustrating.

Yeah, these guys are all about the story and the lore of these games. And for this to be the last one, that's gotta hurt.
Dogg mentioned that his opinions of games in the series tend to change the more he plays them. I mean, look, it took drk 7 years to finally admit that MGS4 isn't the absolute worst thing ever exposed to mankind.
I think after the disappoint and heartbreak wear off we'll see them all find appreciation in the game and what Kojima was trying to go for.

Honestly, I wish there could be one one more game between 1984 and 1995. Even DLC with extra main missions that give better closure but that's more likely out of the question.

If you're watching the stream now, that seems unlikely. Dogg is usually the most calm and rational one of the three, and he's tearing it apart. And his criticisms are certainly valid.
It's a shame. I don't doubt the Konami and Kojima fall out have a lot to do with the game being incomplete and probably the amount of time and money Kojima spent on stuff like the FOX Engine. :/
At best we're going to get cosmetic DLC and bug fix patches like MGS4 (why else would Kojima be contracted until December?) Really, really sad.

Yeah, there won't be any real single player DLC for the game. And nothing substantial if there is. Anything else will probably just be MGO3 stuff, and I doubt that will last long.

Extremely sudden and WTF indeed. We don't know the main cause at all even from Dogg's statement -- it's surely not the main reason.
I mean, Dogg and drk basically have done most of the streaming for the channel this year anyway so they'll likely continue on as two for awhile. If they need a third, they won't just find someone to replace Knight -- there was some clear chemistry between all three of them despite their differences of opinion on the series' games.
Finding someone with the same tenacity and dedication to playing through these games is not going to be easy, especially someone who they are on good terms with and get along with etc etc.
At one point wasn't there another guy? I don't think he was on long but I remember he was the only one that liked revengeance

Yeah Leo and he was terrible. Not as a person, but I'm subbed because of the streamers' knowledge and skills. Watching Leo fumble and stumble through MGS4 was unwatchable.
I'd rather have them continue as a duo. In all fairness Knight hasn't been streaming extremely often the last months anyway.
There was a couple of pages worth of people shitting on him early in the marathon. I think he called Meryl a bitch or something similar that set it off.

This marathon was one for the books. Insane length, incredible hype and buildup with a surreal anti-climax in several ways. Especially in the weeks leading up to MGSV's release their marathon really added to the hype, and kept me sane during the final countdown.
As always mad props to the streamers, and I hope things will resolve with Knight. Glad to be a member of the OHN army for all this time, and I won't unsub anytime soon.

Oh, man, I just heard of this. Shit, I really liked Knight. But I understand his reason. Streaming can be so awesome one moment, but completely shit the next, with the mercurial community, not to mention it takes a lot of time and energy.
Still, I wish I had paid attention and watched more streams. I guess everything related to MGS is slowly finishing.

That isn't what happened. There was no "shitting on him." I found it distasteful how in the "Meryl lives or dies" donation war everyone was saying shit like "Die bitch die." I voiced my displeasure at this and several people replied agreeing, but there was no "shitting on someone." Hell, the post wasn't even targeted directly at the streamer, but everyone.
Either way in the ol' GAF > Internet > GAF cycle it quickly got to the stream in some form. I can only assume someone brought it up in chat (probably going all; GAF THINKS WE'RE SEXIST) and as a result the OHN community hates us now. Then of course some Gaffers got pissed at me. I just found how the community (and the streamers no-issue with it) was handling it to be gross and I voiced my opinion, sure as hell didn't expect it to turn into what it did, ultimately souring an entire community on ours here.
Sucks that it ended up going down like that, it shouldn't have. A little discussion is all that was needed, but hey welcome to the internet...
