So I'm taking a course and the final is due tomorrow, writing the essay and I was reading over the requirements:

What kind of a teacher asks for single spaced!? :lol

The grad assistant must have pissed him/her off.

That said, a lot of space can be gained simply by fucking with the font of the commas and periods.

Probably isn't going to mark on it/read the whole thing, and is more worried about reducing the amount of conceivable finagling that can be done to make it seem longer (2.2 spacing, for example) so that they can confirm you've written the set amount.

The other requirements/specifications say that "any creative formatting will be penalized by 50% off final grade"

Wow, wtf? That's weird. The teacher must hate you guys or something.

The extra credit assignment was a 5 page essay on Singularity, also single spaced...FUCK.

Got that out of the way first. Some boring ass shit I'm telling you.

Make it into a 32 page quadruple-spaced essay. That way, you'll feel like your accomplishing more at a faster rate.

That actually seems like an idea, it's easier to finish the page you're on when its over quickly.

What are you going to school for? That's some insanity right there.

I would shoot myself if I had to read that many papers in that format, sheesh.

I'm going to school for Sound Production, this is probably the hardest course in the entire program. Bachelors in Sound Arts & Production only a year and a half away!

My 8 page paper is on Intellectual Property Rights and the New Model of the Recording Industry, my 5 page paper was on Singularity and the Law of Accelerating Returns (and how the technology in question effects Audio Production).

I had a paper like that. It was a single spaced 8-10 page paper with size 10 font. That's right, size 10. The paper was technically optional, but if you didn't do it there was no way to get an A in the class. I worked my ass off on that paper and got an A-, but I scored an A in the class.

That actually sounds like an easy paper to do 8 pages single spaced on. It could be a much harder topic.

Get some Red Bull and adderall then get to work! When you're on adderall, you don't WANT to take breaks. Working becomes fun! And Red Bull keeps you awake! It's the only way to pass any course these days. I'm about to take adverstising at UT next semester, and I hear theres about 200 terms to learn per test and numerous projects. Adderall and red bull is the only way to pass from what I hear from students. Adderall being the most important supplement.

Is it an American thing to ask for specific pages and not word-count? All my assignments are by word-count which means you can't dick around with spacing to pad-out an anaemic essay.

During my time in school I had some professors ask for specific page counts and some ask for word counts. I want to say most of them went by word count but I'm not certain.

Depends on the school. Mine requires professors give assignments by word count.

I LOVE KING OF THE HILL!

I'm so sad it's been cancelled :(

And naw, I'm not complaining, I did all my research before hand I just think the format is a bit ridiculous is all! :)

My teacher asked this last semester for my internship paper, 5 pages single spaced...

Edit: I forgot to add, I also had to write a 2 page single spaced self evaluation... Fuck that teacher... Didn't help I stood up all night writing it the night before either. FML

I have never double spaced in my entire education. Have I missed out on a trick or something? I've usually been given a word count, however.

Damn man, I was gonna say use courier new since that(at least when I was in school) was an acceptable font. Your professor/teacher is a dickhead.

Why is everyone so surprised? I wrote a 15 page final paper (double spaced, so, almost the same thing) for my sociology class...he was probably supposed to be working on it all semester.

As far as what's learned by writing a paper that long...how to do extensive research on a given topic?

Why the hell do professors keep asking for page count rather than word count? It does nothing but bring confusion and vagueness.

Thought of writing papers like that one are a part of the reason I pursued culinary arts instead of a journalism major.

What's single spaced, exactly? I probably know it in Dutch but have no idea what it would translate to.

Edit: Ooohhh. Sucks to be you! I didn't even know they made requirements concerning spacing.
