Just going to repeat what I am sure others have said / typed: it depends entirely on what you're doing with that system.
My Macbook Pro has 8 GB of RAM and that's fine. I use it mostly to run Chrome with several tabs open along with Discord, while performing light productivity work, playing simple games, or watching video. Maybe run a VDI client if I need an extra screen while at work.
My desktop PC has 32 GB because it doubles as a high end gaming PC and also a test system for running VM's.
