Just happened to come across article while searching for opinions on the whole Tomodachi Life situation. It is about a 9 year old boy who lives in NYC and his reaction to the controversy. The author talks about their son's life and environment abit before showing this email they sent to Nintendo:

My son's comments to Nintendo about gays by mole333
My son (age 9) loves Nintendo. He particularly loves Pokémon and Mario. The Nintendo store is one of his favorite places to go. However, when I showed him that Nintendo is discriminating against gays in Tomodachi Life he was very disappointed and says he doesn't want to go to the Nintendo store for awhile. His comment was, "But gay people can be awesome, just like the rest of us."

I think you should reconsider your policy. It is needlessly foolish and discriminatory.

Isn't that just adorable?

So his father is telling him lies at such an early age?
Discriminating against gays...
This is getting out of hand.

I don't think Nintendo has anything against gays and lesbians , they just have this habit to not reacting to anything that happens with their games or business in general. They just stick to whatever plan they have.

However, when I showed him that Nintendo is discriminating against gays

Of course the kid will react that way when the source is so heavily loaded.

It would be great if gay marriage was in Tomodachi Life but I think to suggest Nintendo is discriminating is taking things a couple of steps too far.

im still confused, what does discrimination have to do with anything with tomadatchi life? It's just an Acid simulator.

You don't even have control over who your miis bang right?

So, a developer makes a design choice that doesn't appeal to certain demographic, and suddenly it's the devil incarnated.
Well, to be fair.... it happens a lot with EA *shrugs*

...this is gonna get worse before it gets better...

Correct me if i'm wrong, this whole thing started because someone saw the japanese game being played and couldn't tell that a male mii had been given the female character type, and misconstrued the game as having gay relationships, when it actually didn't (at least as far as the coding is concerned) and was upset when Nintendo didn't change the code for a domestic release?

I don't...understand, why this is a problem.

Or no, I understand why people want this, kind of, I don't understand why Tomodachi Life is the jump off point people want to use for this sort of activist activity. Is it because, at the end of the day, it's just a quirky thing Nintendo put out that doesn't really matter and thus it's a low impact target if things don't go their way?

I don't understand how Tomodachi Life became the line in the sand for having same sex relationships in video games.

Like, telling your child that Nintendo discriminates gays because of this situation is literally insane. There are so many problems with that, and yet, here we are.

I see Gaf is hellbent on poisoning Tomodachi collection discussion as much as possible because of one aspect that isn't included

yeah, seriously. this is getting ridiculous

Sometimes I wonder if the bug was patched from the beginning would we have this kind of ruckus

Instead we would have had a ruckus over having a game where dudes can get pregnant and it being impossible to save, and how Nintendo would refuse to patch it.

It was all part of the same bug.

I think it is wrong to use his son to further his views like that. It reminds me of Kony 2012 video where the guy begins telling his 4 year old about Kony and all that. It's a much more complex and naunced situation, and using the innocence of kids just doesn't jive with me, even if I completely understand that gays want there to be an option for them.

But that is how I feel about it, I am not gay nor do I own a 3DS, so I might not understand what I am talking about. I just think that it's hard to expect Nintendo to do something about this with the way Gay Marriage is in Japan.

Nintendo better do something fast. This is no just go away, and the media will go a long way with this for Headlines.

On subject Nintendo should just do it.

So games that don't feature gay marriage are now "discrimination."

Damn. Then I've been discriminated against for years when games choose not to have any black characters in them, or even allow you the option to create one.

I too agree, this shit has gotten out of hand. I've been biting my tongue through all these threads not saying a word because I don't care but this thread does it, everyone needs to chill down.

Although the OP's post is relevant and absolutely thread-worthy, so far every reply has been the same argument in the existing #Miiquality and Tomodachi Life controversy threads.
