KevinRo said:I asked for a Gamecube for Christmas during the holiday when the Xbox and Gamecube were first released. I remember a specific moment after coming back from the Holiday Break in my middle school gym. All the kids were discussing the game systems they had received for Christmas. One kid came up to me and asked me what I had received, I replied "A Gamecube". He then responded with a loud and boisterous 'HAH, A GAYCUBE". Everyone laughed at me because they all had received an Xbox or a PS2 and the Gamecube were for 'little kids'.
I was 13 then. I still love my Gamecube.
Gamecube dismissal was PERVASIVE in society. I travelled in many different circles, and Nintendo had a "this is obviously for kids" vibe in many places of North America (at least), during 2001-2006. Which is funny because Cube software was wonderful (rather hardcore and graphically powerful) and pulled me back into Nintendo after, ironically, thinking N64 was a bit of a kiddy console, in my teen years.KevinRo said:I asked for a Gamecube for Christmas during the holiday when the Xbox and Gamecube were first released. I remember telling this one friend about Resident Evil 4 just after launch, it was still only on Cube (well, timed exclusive anyway).
"Gamecube? But.... isn't that for kids???" He was literally stunned... as if someone had told him they had a Playmobil playset. I guess the look of the cube just said "FOR KIDS" to the average westerner.
Ironically this same person probably owns a Wii now, which is basically a Gamecube that lets you wave a toy wand around and play simple minigames. It's adult now.
