I wont lie and say that moderation in the past could be a bit biased and heavy handed but imo that was the price to pay to keep horribly articulated and socially backwards opinions off of this site. Shitty dogpiling and one word dismissive responses aren't healthy, I agree, but the only time someone is banned (usually) is when they argue in bad faith or while citing false information repeatedly, after being educated or warned. If that was the case then you deserve the ban, but if not I'm sorry that's what happened.

There are already people on the new forum with right leaning ideals that did often get "dogpiled" for their questionable beliefs but rarely permanently banned. And they still continue to state their opinion even in a see of liberal leaning "sjws" I'd rather have them around me than slinky molerats waiting for the time is right to strike.

Join the new place and see if you last a bit longer. Just make sure you come correct.

Thank you for the reply. There is definitely something to be said about cost and payout, and I can understand how the tradeoff for heavier moderation would be very attractive. I can also understand what Laiza said, about how there are tons, tons of other forums for people to swarm if they want, why not leave this one alone?

I can only speak for myself, but I guess my answer would be, because I love NeoGaf. I love the gaming threads. I don't like when it comes to blows, and wish that everyone could get along. I guess I want to believe that even with the changes in place people will be decent to each other.

That's a really good point, and it's the main reason that I tend to be one of the "c'mon folks, let's be civil" voices. I'm afraid that centrists caught between this polarization will get pushed right rather than left, and it'll ultimately make the situation worse (even though I do believe that the liberal views tend to have the moral high ground).

But yeah, it's stupid because I quoted somebody (I think Subpar Spatula) trying to make that point and then they got attacked with an alt-right slur. I feel so torn because as much as I want to deescalate the conflict, I know there's a hard right faction that would see that as weakness and press the attack. What I do know is that a lot of places are civil, very few places call you names or would imply you're an inferior individual. The vast majority of the Internet is outright hostile to women. The burden is on you to prove otherwise, and you won't find it an easy task. Here's an example: violent crime committed by black people fell in the early nineties, but coverage of black crime skyrocketed. The perception among white people was that black crime was out of control. This is when the phrase "superpredator" entered the lexicon. That shit was racist, and policies on "superpredators" fucked up a lot of black lives. This is the sort of non-obvious way that racism can have real consequences.
