A console Bravely Default game plus a FF9 remake wouldn't be a bad idea.

I'm one of those people that is satisfied with the action RPG future of the final fantasy franchise. I think the FF XV/FF7:R combat will be the future of the franchise, especially if they find a way to make multiple playable characters (and I mean work well) while making sure it's tactical and not just a KH style button masher.

I prefer action RPGs over turn based RPGs and I lived advent children so I'm stoked about the direction that FF is going in. I still love turn based RPGs however and I don't want to see turn based console games with a decent budget disappear. I think Bravely Default deserves a shot on consoles and it seems like almost every mainline FF sans the XIII trilogy and the MMOs are destined for a remake at some point.

Shit, they could even give them to same studio. Let Silicon studio develop both. I think they would do a wonderful job.

Project Setsuna looks kind of like what you want

But please no Bravely Default unless they change everything but the battle system

boring dungeons
boring towns
boring characters

Get the OG source files for the backgrounds and do higher poly models for the game. That's all I need at this point for FFIX

Bravely default is only a decent game because it was a handheld and some people were desperate for an average jprg. It would be destroyed if release on consoles.

I don't think we need a full remake of Final Fantasy IX, but an HD remaster would be pretty welcome.

I feel like all Final Fantasy IX really needs is to improve the loading times and to feature higher res visuals. There's no need for a "remastered" soundtrack (dear god, no) or for the game to need to be recreated from scratch. Just put out a definitive version of the best Final Fantasy.

I'd love to see MonolithSoft Kyoto make (or co-develop) a Bravely console game with the existing battle system. Yasuyuki Honne and co. would make great maps that are a perfect fit to the style of the series. And since they'd still need a character designer we can still have Yoshida as the lead character designer. Too bad it's just a dream really.

It would be nice to get Bravely Third first.
Don't think it'd be a good idea on console tbh, but I support an FFVI remake (as long as it doesn't transition to another genre).
Meh for IX.

I want a FF9 re-release of some kind that plays as fast as Bravely Default. FF9 is so slow and could benefit from all of the modern JRPG battle speed options.

Bravely Default is a crap game. So much potential but omg... I'm up to chapter 6 and the nonsense I have to put up with...

That about sums it up. If the higher res textures are there, slap them in, test it, and release the sucker into the wild as it is.

Remake is now a bad word for me after seeing what they are doing to FFVII. Just remaster games. I don't want anymore remakes. Or how about a new game in these series. Then I don't have some expectations of what the product should be because I already played it.

Final Fantasy 9 is the worst of the PS1 Final Fantasies and Zidane sucks.

Final Fantasy 8 is the one that really deserves more attention. Great cast, great music, great story, it's a classic and even better than 7. It also has the best love story, the amazing romance between Squall and Rinoa.

This is sarcasm right?

2016: FFXV
2017: FFVII:R part 1
2018: KH3 and FFVII:R part 2
2019: FFVII:R part 3 and FFXV-2
2020: FFVIII:R part 1 and KH3 Final Mix
2021: FFVIII:R part 2 and Crisis Core Remake
2022: FFXVI and FFXV:R part 1...

Hope you guys like Kingdom Hearts gameplay!

I agree with OP tho, let Bravely Default be the new cool turn based RPG.

I think the towns are decent. My issue with the towns is that they are too small in scale and very few explorable buildings. It's from my memory though, maybe it was better than what I recalled. The art style had some pre-rendered touch to it, which was nice.

The dungeons do suck a lot. Repetitive, uninspired level design.

I totally agree. I recently beat FFIX for the first time, and it was really slow. It could really benefit a remake featuring Bravely Default's battle engine.

Immediately after FFIX, I tried out Wild Arms, and the difference in battle speed was staggering. No joke, in Wild Arms you get into battle, finish an easy battle, and go back to the map faster than just the loading to start the battle in FFIX.

I think the big problem is the pre-rendered backgrounds. Square likely only have the low-res images, which can't just be upscaled, and lots of the models used to make those images are probably lost.

I would rather see a mainline Final Fantasy go in this direction, or a new IP.
Will never happen as long as it's a AAA IP. They want that Elder Scrolls, The Witcher, Fallout, UbiSoft and Rockstar games money. FF is still the biggest thing they have and they could possibly turn it into one of those things I mentioned if they do the open World action RPG right.

FF9 doesn't need a remake though cause the original still holds up. Can't say the same for FF7. Out of all the final fantasy games, it easily aged the worse.(other than FF1,2,3 but those got more modern remakes already)

I'd rather they focus on growing Setsuna into a decent IP. Bravely seems to have lost it's way. A good initial heading that faltered to terrible padding. Even more unforgivable it seems Second has doubled down on fanservice and cliched writing.

I just wish they'd give FF9 the FF7 PS4 port treatment. That's really all it needs.

Yup. I'd like this for VIII, too. And maybe a bunch more games after that. 3x speed is fucking awesome, and the other cheats are nice too, especially if you've played these games many times.

I agree with you on the final Fantasy VIII thing only. But Final Fantasy 9 is the best PS1 Final Fantasy.

In fact, they are all great games that deserve remakes.

Well if it was on consoles the budget would have been a bit bigger. Wouldn't need to be AAA but it would have needed to be at least Ni No Kuni levels. BD is s good because its a love letter to the old school and it has an amazing combat system. Has nothing to do with it being on a handheld.

Yeah the towns are like 1-2 screens with 5 boring characters and 1-2 buildings. At least that's what I remember. None of them were memorable in any real way. When I think of good JRPG towns I get a sense of how they feel and remember it, in BD most of them were almost interchangable.
Can we please stop skipping FFV and FFVI?

Those already got remakes

I don't want an FF9 remake, I would much rather have them remake the better games in the series.

Exactly, FF9 is terrible and doesn't deserve a remake.

final fantasy 9 remains my favorite after or together with (not really sure) VI, but no I don't want a remake. The reason is not (as many tend to say in VII-threads) that I don't think modern SE could do it justice. Instead, I think the art style of FFIX wont translate well into HD graphics. Not really sure how to put the feeling I have into words, but I am perhaps afraid that the somewhat fantastical design (that is lost in the graphics engine as it now is on ps 1) would make the more serious scenes (especially those with Vivi) less believable.

Still, I would buy a remaster any second for any price up to 60 dollars.

I don't think one really has to do that much with the other, aside from maybe the latter allowing the former to be greenlit. In terms of resources I think there's little to no overlap, the only question is whether Tomoya Asano will even be able to continue what he started after the Bravely Second localization ships. It'll probably be for NX if he does, or PS4 but it's less likely I think because they do have a lot of projects going on there already.

Bravely Default - it depends on the quality of the assets. They're already a bit muddy on 3DS but that thing is super low quality anyway so it's hard to tell what resolution the original backgrounds are. If they had 1080p versions? Absolutely throw that on console.

Final Fantasy IX - is not getting a remake because it wouldn't sell that well, and isn't getting a remaster because they don't have all the assets/code. It's the one FF game that'll likely stay dead. If they had all the backgrounds in higher res - and at least some of those exist - we probably would have seen it by now.

Final Fantasy VIII - might get the PC version ported to PS4? Can't see why not.

A HD remake of VIII would be wonderful in and off itself, not because FFIX "sucks"

FF7 is pretty much the only remake I'd expect to receive that treatment. It's arguably the best game ever, it's SE's favourite game and it's a cultural phenomenon. Any other FF or any SE game for that matter, would not receive the FF7 treatment. The only game that has a chance if receiving a FF7:R esque remake is 8 actually. It's fundamentally broken so it needs a remake, not to mention that it seems to be the least talked about FF for some reason and it style very much fits the direction that FF is going in today.

I replayed FF9 this year. It was not fun at all thanks to how slow the battles are. It might have the most unenjoyable gameplay I've seen in a RPG. Went to the Suikoden series right afterwards. Those are so much better.

There were some good parts to FF9's story but I never liked Zidane and I never cared about Garnet. The only character I liked was Steiner. FFX did story and characters much better.

So I say we should remake the better FFs first like FF4 and FF6.

If SE has to release the Final Fantasy VII remake in chunks, just imagine how many episodes of Final Fantasy IX you'd have to buy.
Episode Lindblum, Episode Treno, Episode Alexandria, etc...

Yes I do like KH gameplay :D.

If they do another big remake, I'd wager it would be VI with high quality art more reminiscent of Amano's concept art.

FF8 is talked about often, and isn't broken. FF1-3 are by far the least discussed.
