A Hat in time (WindWaker styled indie game)

Didnt know about this game, just voted for it on greenlight.

Trailer looked a lot like Windwaker style, but the character art in this image looks straight from a disney 3D movie. She looks adorable.

I remember back on MFGG when he was just making fan games for our forum, like MFGG Royale and MFGG Ware.

Oh and hey Demon Lizardman, it's Sponge!

EDIT - JoeInky too? REALLY small world!

Would give this a thousand thumbs up on Greenlight if I could. Alas, I could give but the one thumb.

This is the guy's first commercial title. Nintendo asks you to have made a previous game (on any platform) before putting one on the Wii U, hence his need for a publisher. Otherwise it's completely trivial to self-publish your game.

EDIT: The most he's ever done before this was Team Fortress 2 mods. :P

He was also involved in Mario Kart Source for a while, I'm pretty sure.

The art style is super super charming. With some polish, the game looks like it could be pretty cool.

Give this man a huge budget, I think he deserves it.

Also
My initial idea was $1, but my publisher is recommending $5 or $10. I'll have a more definitive answer later on!
He's not even asking for much, well played.

Thanks a lot! It's is pretty amazing seeing the numbers grow so quickly (first time we are doing a Kickstarter campaign) :D

Don't worry, the camera system is still being tweaked. Also, you can play with either keyboard/mouse or a controller. Personally, I prefer to play the game with an Xbox controller.

I have been seeing stuff from this game for a while. It looked so great I thought it was already funded but I just found out they are on kickstarter.

First time backing any game, I really hope they get that coop mode done. The whole game looks amazing and playing it with my couple or a friend would be awesome.

Thank you very much! Yes, indeed we hope to get money to make a proper co-op mode. The game would be tons of fun playing with a mate! :)

Looks great, but why is the steam key more expensive? If you get approved through Greenlight you get free keys.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm an idiot.

Looks great, love the art style.

That video did give me considerable motion sickness, though. I hardly ever get that.

Hey, I am the Community Manager at Gears for Breakfast, the team behind A Hat in Time.
We just launched on Kickstarter, so feel free to check it out if you are interested in reviving the collect-a-thon platforming genre.

Cheers! :)
and backed ;)

Nice touch @ Kickstarter: They added the shipping costs to the pledge amount automatically. This wasn't the case the last time I backed something physical.

Are you talking about the $10 reward vs. the $15 reward? Both include a Steam key :)

Yup, realized that now, I'm just dumb. Also, it's an early limited tier, you could not give Steam keys if you felt like it, it's not like it's permanently cheaper to get it DRM Free.

Definitely backing this, I remember when I first saw a screenshot of this game, it's been some time, I actually forgot about it, I'm glad this thread got my attention

Nice to see you guys are taking this to the next level.

Could it be true that I saw some of the first snippets of the development of A Hat in Time on AGDG?

I'm in for the exclusive hat, I hope it's not something stupid like a hat with the kickstarter logo on it >_<

Also, if anyone could make gifs, I'd really appreciate that.

And please don't scrap the obstacle courses you made, just include them as a challenge mode or secret rooms in the game or whatever, it was my favorite thing to watch, and has great potential for increasing replay value.

Native controller support would be nice?

Backed anyway.

You can play with a controller :)

You get my support.

I hope this comes to the Wii U. With WWHD launching this fall, it would be a great companion game.

Yikes. They need to do something about that camera if they're going to have platforming like that.

Yeah camera needs work (And its a bit too close to the character). The character looks like he needs more weight as well.

But the concept is there, and every time I see this game I want to play it!

Camera zoom can be changed by scrolling the mouse wheel :)

Funny you should say that. A few days ago I was playing with some GIF software and made this (it's on my public Dropbox folder, so it might be slow). Also, some of the footage is a bit old.

Thank you for that! It's really a lot easier to sell a game to people with gifs, seeing it in motion is a completely different thing.

And I just saw on youtube that you're using UE3. Seriously??? I would never even imagine. My mind is blown.

This is incredible.

And I love the co-op guy's design, if you achieve the stretch goal, can we unlock him to be used on single player?

If you are talking about this, then yeah :)

Yep, game is made in UDK. And YES, if the stretch goal is reached, you will definitely be able to play as the secondary character in single player! :)

Wonderful, time to spread the word.

Maybe the Kickstarter campaign should get a new thread? I can't make them myself though.
