So I saw this while browsing the online menu for Sonic, in the mood for a milkshake.

Just.....not this one.

Here is the menu description:
Real Ice Cream mixed with the bold flavors of chocolate and jalapenos into a thick and creamy shake, finished with whipped topping and a cherry.

And thankfully some brave soul at The Impulsive Buy felt the need to try this and review it.

Here are some pictures and a few choice quotes the author felt about it.

You know how sometimes you’ll get a chunky shake and accidentally suck a piece straight to the back of your throat? That’s exactly what happened to me. But, instead of a delicious piece of Oreo cookie, it was a motherfucking jalapeño.

My poor mouth was so confused. “I love jalapenos!” Some of my taste buds said. “I love chocolate shake!” others joined in enthusiastically. But then the two clashed, and both sides screamed.

“AAAAHHHHHHH THIS IS SO WRONG WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO US!”

“WE LOVE JALAPENOS WHY IS THERE CHOCOLATE SHAKE IN HERE!”

“WE LOVE CHOCOLATE SHAKE WHY ARE THERE JALAPENOS IN HERE!”

It wasn’t just spicy chocolate. It was jalapeño peppers a la mode with some chocolate. It was bitter and sickly sweet and spicy and sad and I honestly made that face you’d make if a hippo flung poo into your open mouth.

Jalapenos are not the pepper I would choose to make such a thing, but hot/spicy flavors pair incredibly well with chocolate in general.

Sweet and spicy can go pretty well together. One of my favorite chai recipes calls for chocolate and red peppercorns/chili. But something about Jalapenos does not sound like it would mix very well with a chocolate milkshake.

Don't understand this, but have you ever tried a tiny bit of cayenne in your hot cocoa? Gives it a great bite. No idea how it'd react with something cold though.

Chocolate and chili peppers have always been known as a good combination.

Usually it isn't jalapenos though. And usually you don;t have giant chunks of chilies either.

Sounded tasty until I read it has actual jalapeno chunks in it. They even look like they might be pickled jalapenos.....ick.

Seems like a very very lazy way to make a jalapeno shake.

Man, I was kind of interested in one of these when I first heard about it. I put cayenne in my coffee sometimes and enjoy a spicy chocolate. But it actually has chunks of jalapeno in it? I'm good. I don't need that flying up into the straw, no matter how comparatively mild it might be amongst peppers.

Completely agree. I could see habaneros, even chilis working out.....but not jalapeños.

Your key word being "tiny bit". Yeah, that sounds pretty food and I'll actually try it sometime but this is sliced jalapeños. Lol.

Yeah that's the thing that makes me pass on it. Sure, I'd be willing to try even if it was just jalapeño flavoring, but not these actual sliced ones.

Looking at the pictures, I bet they just throw some of their pickled jalapenos they use on their burgers into a regular chocolate shake and call it a day.

I have never tried that. But traditional hot "chocolate" beverage receipts from Mexico do used to contain some type of chile among the ingredients. Nowadays, you can probably only try them on some gourmet restaurants.

Believe it or not, it does taste quite good. Nothing like you would expect.
Also, most people associate jalapeño to the accompanying vinegar. Which I assume/hope it's not used here.
