blew my mind yesterday.

the scene in the
burning
was fucking beautiful.
Yeah. That entire sequence was the best in the movie, and better than anything in the comic. Just incredible.

Millar is great at inspiring other people...his ideas are good but he's not necessarily the best to be carrying them out

btw
Loved Wanted the Movie much more than the comic (omg Halle Berry and Eminen raping and murdering people...yay? (although the root concept that wasnt in the movie was very interesting))
Loved Kick Ass, havent read the graphic novel, but the omissions like Hit Girl doing cocaine and whatnot seem like good omissions to me

I started reading the graphic novel again. And the film didn't really focus on the aftermath of the initial accident/injury (and the time it took for him to recover) or his relationship with his dad.

I noticed a lack of the Kick-ass dad too just the other day, there was no relationship worth noting in the movie, he may as well could've been on his own.

I like the fact they partially try to explain why he can take a beating better is because of an intiial accident and getting fucked up nerve endings and metallic parts inside him or whatever

i actually would LOVE to see a hit girl sequel that is a more "serious" action movie.

I think this could work. She wouldn't be *as* young in the sequel, so the moralizers wouldn't be as offended. She is a great actress and the character is fantastic.

For the amount of over the top shit she does in the movie, she pulls it off surprisingly well.

My main concern in a direct sequel would be Kick Ass, himself. His character just isn't very interesting, IMO. I would much rather a sequel focusing primarily on her.

Agreed. Wanted movie was a complete improvement (which is kind of sad because it was still fairly juvenile).

Thank God they cut the line "This is me fucking you in the ass" out of the film.

I'm gonna ask again. Did anyone hear what Big Daddy
was saying when he was set on fire? I heard Kryptonite, but i couldn't hear the rest.

Don't think anyone has grabbed that one yet. ^_^

Still quite a few avatars left unclaimed here. Just be sure to check after that post and see if it's not been taken.

Saw this on Friday night without any familiarity with the source-material.

It was an entertaining-ass movie. That first scene
with Nic Cage shooting the girl
was hilarious. The whole movie got a lot of laughs from the crowd. They did a great job of maintaining the ridiculous tone of the movie throughout, even during the "serious" moments.
Nic Cage yelling, "Child, strobe now," while he was on fire was particularly hilarious. As was the boning behind the store.
. McLovin was hilarious throughout. Still, a few moments seemed out of place.

Also, seriously the love story seemed out of place? I thought it worked perfectly with the tone of the movie. It was ridiculous and accelerated and even Kick-Ass
moving in creepily on her tits and then later fucking outside were ludicrous and, thus, funny.

The love story in itself is not annoying, but how it got to where it was, was rushed and unconvincing.

Damn you do amazing avatar work. I have always wanted to rock an animated one, but I gotta keep the Kolb with the draft only a week away, maybe if there are any left unclaimed then I will grab one.

I could see that were the entire movie not silly in tone. That scene itself would be laughably awful in a serious movie, but it fit within the confines of this movie. Also, I sort of saw this movie in the protagonist's term as a geek-fantasy, and that whole scene was wholly detached from reality as was the movie.

I have to admit though that my expectations for the movie were pretty low. I was looking for a vulgar popcorn flick, and I got just that.

The movie tried to argue about being more realistic, and yet still appeal to a young audience aesthetic and mind. The relationship was total geek fantasy. The guy lied to this girl for months about being gay and being Kick-ass and he tells her he loves her or whatever, she was upset but still asked him to stay anyways. But then again she was probably messed up herself too and loves a project.

The box office results are adequate, and better than I personally expected. If they are gonna say no to a sequel because it wasn't #1, greedy bastards lol

movie was great

people that said hit girl stole every scene she was in were right. She wasn't in enough scenes and neither was big daddy! Big daddy was freakin awesome and didn't get enough action time.

With those box office results, Id wager they're (Lionsgate) lukewarm on the idea now.
I'm not sure how much of a say Lionsgate has in it. Wasn't this one independently financed?

If they think they can make money on a sequel it could still happen...and next time sell it to a decent NA distributor.

Nothing to do with it not being number one, and more to do with it performing below what they had expected. You've got to keep in mind that a sequel is going to cost a lot more than $30M.

Douche hair Red Mist the supahbad villlain shooting rockets at people while "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley blairs

hells yeah :lol

I just reread the Kick-Ass graphic novel.

Differences between the novel and movie:

- Katie wasn't the one who asked Dave to tell the boyfriend. It was some random chick (who ends up boning Dave's dad).

- Dave's dad loneliness and coping with only having Dave in his life. They really removed an integral part of the comic. The movie seemed to focus more on the supporting cast than Dave.

- Big Daddy's true origin (the one in the movie is his comic origin). He carries around a big metal chest that has old Marvel comics like Amazing Spiderman # 1, Hulk, Fantastic Four, etc. It's how he funds his super hero antics.

- Code Red. The crack Hit Girl takes in issue 8. Her dad says it will give her the strength of 10 men.

- Dave doesn't get the girl. Katie actually gets together with an athletic black guy.

- Dave having a pathetic existence.

- Dave actually lifting weights and being "okay" at fighting, which is shown in his confrontation with Red Mist.

- Big Daddy gets his brains blown out.

- The conclusion isn't as outlandish as the movie. It's just a confrontation shoot out.

- The lil mini discussions about Marvel topics and characters. The one that jumps out to me is the discussion of 1602 Galactus vs. Ultimate Universe Galactus.

i dont see how they can make that determination based on 1 week. this is the type of movie that will have good word of mouth, kind of like batman begins.

there will be a sequel, i guarantee it

No.

More Differences

Also, from looking at the AV right above yours, Red Mist was a lot older in the comic. And definitely more of a pussy. There wasn't a car dance scene either.

The movie seems to have a more whimsical tone (sort of dark comedy vibe). I don't have an issue with any of the changes except for the switch in character focus.

Batman did better than this, and this does not have the prestige of a well known franchise behind it. Movies like Wanted, Watchmen, etc would suggest a more similar result.

The film will be a success, but nothing major. One thing that will potentially hurt this film is that they did put a lot of work into marketing it and that may have backfired if it doesn't do well enough. The movie also has a very narrow demographic attached to it and the R rating.

Won't be surprised to see it dip fairly heavily in coming weeks.

Looked through and saw no one was using this one, mind if I call dibs?

Saw the movie last night with some of my friends, and holy shit it was awesome. Having not alot of faith going into it, I walked out amazed. About to start up my review for my school paper soon, but I'll go ahead and say it's going to be one of my favorite films of the year.

Read the first line in that post. ^_^

so a rated R movie, which has been called "morally reprehensible" by roger ebert, a franchise with absolutely ZERO name recognition to the general public, is not going to have a sequel green lit because it "only" made $20 mil on opening weekend?

wow, ok. i guess i'm the only one that sees making that money for a nobody franchise on opening weekend a great haul.

Its not a question of whether or not the movie will turn a profit. It will. Its a question of whether it turns enough of one that makes a sequel a desirable endeavour for the studio.

well its going to turn a profit by next week. keep in mind that right now its #2 for the weekend (results could come in that its #1 tomorrow) playing in nearly 25% LESS theaters than how to train your dragon.

i'm not studio exec but this movie/franchise seems to have potential and is going to turn a pretty healthy profit when all is said and done.

Has Vaughn given any interviews yet where he discusses his music choices? It takes some brass balls to yank the Sunshine score out and use it :lol :lol

I wish he would, I want to hear about it. Just got back from a second viewing, and really paid attention to Surface of the Sun. I think you asked if it was a different version? In the beginning when it first picks up there is definitely a bit more guitar sound, but its pretty brief. After that it goes straight into normal SotS. So I dont think they recomposed it or anything, just played 2 "tracks" together for the beginning 10 seconds or so.

Epic.

Yep, it was me who asked about that. I just felt the guitars were a lot higher and more present in the mix than they were in Sunshine.

yea it was, but only for the first 10 seconds or so, but I think it was from the track before it, like a transition. did Sculli ever come back in here...wanted him to know how wrong he was about it :lol

To elaborate, the
big weapon Hit Girl pulls out at the end is a flamethrower. The movie replaced that with a jet pack/gatling gun and a bazooka. Personally, I liked the flamethrower and how it was used better.
Not as over the top, but still awesome.
