Went to see Avengers a second time with my dad, and guessed I went at the wrong time because there were like three families in the theater that would talk. It wasn't so intolerable (except for the idiot-dad that laughed at EVERYTHING) but there was one kid right behind me, who would talk to his dad constantly.

At first I reminisced back to when I was younger and got super-excited by some epic film, but after a while, it just became annoying. The kid would ask his dad constantly "Who is that? What's going on? Are they making a sequel?" interspersed with the normal "Wooooahh" and "OH THAT'S SO COOL, I WANT A TOY OF THAT".

Am I a bitter curmedgeon or is this annoying behavior?

My parents would always ask me questions about what's going on in a movie or ask me to repeat lines to them that they didn't hear well. Especially my mom. I always just try to say, if you be quiet and pay attention you'll find out yourself.

The worst experience I've ever had was the lad sitting directly beside me, during a packed screening of Return of the King on opening day, taking out his phone towards the end (or what everyone thought was the end) of the film and calling a taxi.

This one retarded family brought in a number of kids to the showing of 300: Rise of an Empire, and the moment Eva cuts off the guy's head and you see all the blood drip in 3D, this one kid SCREAMED at his dad 'DADDY! DADDY! THE ACTION IN THIS FILM IS SOOOOOOOO GOOD!'

Made me want to punch the parents for several reasons.

I saw it this tuesday first, it was perfect, everyone was silent.

And the theater wasn't packed, maybe 70% filled.

Parents need to coach their kids on how to behave in a movie theater before they even go.

"Don't talk. Whisper to me if you have a question. They kick people out if you talk out loud."

That being said an elderly woman sitting behind me marveling out loud at every fucking scene in Birdman pretty much ruined my viewing of that one.

So the real question is, how do you teach a 70+ year old human who witnessed the evolution of cinema into what it is today how to behave in a movie theater?

I can't stand that shit. Obnoxiousness must run in the blood if the father didn't hush him. It's a cardinal rule to stfu in the movies. If your kid can't learn that, I think he should only be watching DVDs

I go to Cinema every other week, and rarely do I find people talk during film, hear other kids being a distraction or even phones going off. This is UK btw.

I've seen the movie twice, once on a workday and once on the weekend. The weekend crowd was considerably worse in terms of talking, hooting and .. i shit you not .. standing up and applauding when the movie ended .. i hate when people do that.

My worse theater experience is probably taking my little brothers and their crazy friend to see Ang Lee's Hulk. Their friend kept yelling out "WHERE'S HULK? IS THIS THE HULK MOVIE?" and I'd be like "Nicholas, be quiet, he'll be on the screen soon enough..."

Then of course, it takes forever for Hulk to actually appear in the movie. So Nicholas whispers as loud as possible "I have to go pee, tell me when Hulk comes on the screen." Considering he did not own a cell phone, I'm guessing he expected someone to run into the restroom and inform him that yes, Hulk was on the screen.

Yea that's just annoying. Luckily I get pretty lucky with afternoon showings. Yesterday though this one group was lucky they shut the fuck up when it started. They were running the commercials and shit they do between movies and they just would not shut up. They were two groups about 3 rows apart and like then the Daredevil ad came on one yelled up to the other behind that yea he heard that sucked ass. It was constant the entire time till the fucking movie started.

What gets me is that there were maybe 20 of us in the theater so it's not like these two groups couldn't have sit together either. We wonder where kids get this behavior from it's from the fucking adults acting like children.

This can either go the right way or the wrong way. If the dad realizes his mistake, he will apologize and try to shush the kid. But...if he didn't realize that as a mistake by then, it is likely that he will become defensive if you tell him that and could try to make it a fight.

I live in Sweden, I very rarely have any problems with people talking. I've never experienced a phone going off either.

I'm in Ireland. Same boat as yourself, rarely do I have a problem other than that one I posted about regarding someone calling for a taxi towards the end of Return of the King. It's a rarity to hear a disturbance of any kind during a film.

The first time I saw Finding Nemo in the cinema with my parents, there was a group of children running up and down the aisles screaming for the first 20 minutes, and their parents were just letting them. Eventually my mother just screamed "WILL YOU PLEASE CONTROL YOUR CHILDREN?!" and the parents were so offended they left. Everyone else applauded.

I've never been prouder.
