It’s not news that soda is bad for us. But it is jarring to witness the physical effects drinking too much of it has on our waistlines.

George Prior, 50, has guinea-pigged his body to do just that.

Following in the body-hacking footsteps of Morgan Spurlock — the “Super Size Me” filmmaker who in 2004 ate three McDonald’s meals for 30 days straight — Prior began guzzling down ten 12-ounce cans of Coca Cola daily for one month to see how the whopping dose of added sugar would affect his healthy physique. He documented it all on his website, 10 Cokes A Day.

This is the rationale for 10 cokes:

"But," you're probably thinking, "Everyone knows it wouldn't be healthy to drink ten cokes a day, and, besides, I only drink four Cokes a day."

That's true, perhaps you're only drinking four Cokes, but if you add in the two glasses of orange juice, the two sweetened coffee drinks from Starbucks, the 16 ounce Odwalla drink, the two "healthy" brand ice teas, and the $9 fruit smoothie you waited ten minutes in line for, you've made my ten Cokes look like child's play. Maybe it's not all coke, but they're all sugar drinks, and a big percentage of Americans drink at least the sugar equivalent of my ten Cokes.

I'm waiting for the 10 Starbucks fancy cafe drinks a day experiment.

The guy's into Paleo. I wonder what the effects would be for eating 10 lbs of steak a day for a month. Probably not much different.

Overconsumption of anything is bad.

My stomach would explode at 10 pounds of steak per day. Protein is very satiating.

Figured as much would happen. I can't even drink stuff like Coke or Sprite anymore, while I used to love the stuff like 15 years ago. I will maybe have it with a pizza but now that I have cut soda out of my diet almost completely I really notice how sweet it is to the point of being overwhelmed. Now I just drink water, sparkling water with a hint of flavor, unsweetened tea, unsweetened coffee, and light beer. I no longer crave sweetened sodas in any way and I am sure my body thanks me.

This is the dude that eats healthy. Like weirdly healthy. There is a reason Super Size Me is just a stupid documentary. It's an extreme form of showing you that shit is bad.

"I had a bunch of calories and look how fat I got. How shocking is this. Golly, look how bad this stuff is for you."

I bet eating 1400 calories (10 cans of Coke) of eggs, bacon, nuts, fish, etc wouldn't have made him that fat. I mean, if you're just talking about calories, because not all calories are created equal.

Well duh, but soda is basically liquid sugar, meaning high in carbs. Is this really that surprising to people?

Who'd have thought adding 1400 calories of coke mostly from sugar on top of your regular calorific Intake would make you gain weight. ...

Calories are BY FAR the biggest factor in determining your weight.

Dude ate twinkies, nutty bars, and other crap every single day and lost 27lbs in two months AND his bad cholesterol dropped majorly, his health got WAY better and certainly his life expectancy improved. How did he do it? He counted calories. 2/3 of his calories came from junk food.

Our obese culture needs to eat less calories, period.

In an absurd increase in liquid calories, which do not satisfy as much as solid foods contributes to weight gain.

Colour me surprised.

Which is extremely hard to do unless you already are morbidly obese because he already eats foods that satiate.

He should have made it with diet coke so we could see if its "diet" enough

Everybody knows soda means fat. Diet soda remains to be seen (for me and the general public)
