A list of Turn-based rpgs for the PC?

Anyone know where I can find a list of ALL the Turn-based rpgs for the PC...?

Even better if the list was sorted by year.

In the mood to play one...

Thanks.

... ALL of them? Such a long list...

Use MobyGames, it's not a complete list but it's pretty good.. Windows and DOS are separated, and not every game is there, but it's still better than anything else I know of.

The Wizardry 8 battle system is awesome from a strategic perspective, but it's too slow. If it don't bother you, go ahead, it's a really fantastic game.

Most CRPGs use a pausible real-time interfaces nowadays. Thank goodness, too, because it makes swatting through simple stuff go a ton faster. Less tedium, and without compromising the full-control notion of turn-based systems.

The Fallout games were still pure turn-based, though, I'd start there if you simply must have an "end of turn" hotkey.

Really fun game. Make sure you patch it though since it was kind of buggy. I think there are fan patches that also fix bugs and add content.

TOEE and Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (decent game once you get the SPEEDMOD!) come to mind.

X-COM, Jagged Alliance, Silent Storm are other types.

Battle of Wesnorth (independent game) is more akin to console tactical RPGS.

Might & Magic VII (the best in the series IMO) has optional turn-based mode (the better of the choices). You can start the turn based mode anytime in the game, but it's usually useful only in combat. The game is also pretty damn good, if you're into 1st person RPGs (not pure RPG, has quite a bit of combat, but still).

Betrayal at Krondor also has turn based combat, but it's not an actual turn based RPG. It's mainly 1st person, but combat is in 3rd person (and on grid). Awesome game.

Yeah, been playing this, lots of fun...but it's more geared towards Strategy than it is towards Rpgs.

I am looking for tons of items and skills, along with the turn based style.

The only one I have played is Temple of Elemental Evil...which had a great battle system.

Console gamers might call these RPGs because of the "SRPG" thing, but in the PC world they aren't. Wesnoth calls itself a TBS, Jagged Alliance a tactical combat game with strategy and RPG influences, etc. The "SRPG" term and the concept that tactical combat games (and some TBSes) are RPGs is really a console-centric idea...

Yeah, played it. Really fun battle system...looking to find a copy with full-sized manual though, since I was really confused with the whole D&D aspect.

That's almost what I want. I'm a freak for grids, though. Helps me know how far I can move, etc. It allows me to plan better.

Looks interesting, though.

My guess, every CRPG before...maybe Baldur's Gate is turn-based and even BG can be played turn based.

Those maybe too dated for my eyes though.

Looking for something around 2002 and up.

Anything Bioware has made previously has "turns", because they're mostly based on d20 or similar systems. The turns are just more fluid than what you seem to be looking for. I know you can set up Baldur's Gate (and its kin: Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, and of course BG2) so it plays purely turn-based through automatic pausing features. Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Nights both have autopause as well, but they're significantly less made for turn-based play.

I haven't played Jade Empire (which just came out for pc), but I'd be surprised if they didn't incorporate something similar there.

I highly suggest Anachronox. The core gameplay isn't all that dashing, but damn does it have atmosphere. Best voice acting I've ever seen and an awesome humorous script to boot.

I'll further this recommendation. Anachronox has great atmosphere for sure, though the CRPG combat system is kind of broken, go figure.

The only other CRPG-style PC game that comes to mind is Septerra Core, which got pretty good reviews for it's time (late 90's). Never got around to playing it myself.

Add FFVII and VIII if you want a complete list.

But, I am looking more towards PC style of gaming...

Temple of Elemental Evil was a great example.

Fallout 2, It seems may be too dated for me to enjoy it.

I guess nothing came out in the past few years?

Plenty of RPGs. All of them pausible real time instead of turn-baesd.

Baldur's Gate changed everything (for the better IMO).

If Fallout 2 is too dated for you, you've not going to find much of anything. Between the rise of pausable realtime and of MMOs, and with the rest of the PC RPGs going the action-RPG route a la Diablo, there have been very, very few pure turnbased PC RPGs in years...

... but really, Fallout isn't dated at all... it's still a great, great game. Now the old Wizardry titles (not 8, though, that one is relatively recent) or SSI Gold Box stuff? THAT is dated. :) Betrayal at Krondor is managable, though. Archaic, but not to the point where it's barely playable by modern standards like most of that '80s stuff.

Anachronox and Septerra Core, of course, but they are more console style... both are worth playing though, for sure.

Yeah, I still have to try out Baldur's gate 2...going to most likely get it from my friend..since he should have the instruction manual....

I hear the newer version don't have a paper manual....and I know nothing regarding D&D.

What what WHAT!? Fallout could be text-based and still not be dated, there is so much stuff going on here that the graphics is the last thing you'll notice.

Stop the nonsense and go play one of the greatest RPG's ever made.

Yeah, seriously. Over here in the UK you can pick up Fallout Collection (Fallout 1 2 and Tactics on one DVD-ROM) for under a tenner. Budget rereleases ftw!
