A litte bit of killzone news

I can't believe no one managed to film it.

Eh, that's probably for the best. If reporters can't separate a tech demo from the actual game despite clear instructions, what do you think would happen if it hit message boards?

What's most interesting here is the difference in depth and content that you see in these reports. IGN basically reports it as a next-gen Black based on the destruction, 1up adds little more than that to the impressions but goes on to weave a conspiracy theory around it, Kotaku whinges on about how it measures up to the old trailer, and Gamespot somehow manages to filter out plenty of details and a (relatively) decent sized preview. E3 will for sure be an interesting event.

Hey, they have a new front page on their website now.
'Team up' is the moniker. 4 player coop confirmed. :p

Well, If a third party game can do it, anything less would be a failure for a first party game.

Wollan it could mean team up and join the Guerilla development team.

O rly?

Would be one of the better games to have it since it was always a focus of the game, the different team members and their different skills.

Agreed. HAZE and Free Radical FTW.

The potential of Killzone's online multiplayer always to be glossed over whenever a Killzone thread comes up.

How was the online play on the first Killzone? Number or players, game modes etc. I'm not familiar with it but quite fancy seeing what they can do.

The first KZ online had a problem with hit detection online as well as general fps (unless you spent some time finding a good server) but it was decent still. 16 players with voice, several game modes (some of them original), friendslist. Melee and the ability to leap over objects was missing in mp but sprint was in and it made all the difference. The best experience you can have playing Killzone imo is team deathmatch on Beach (probably the best looking multiplayer PS2 game on that level). The level has a lot of freedom, fox holes, water pits and two larger towers and some sandbanks. Pretty great stuff when the lag/hit detection works. Play it offline with bots if you don't bother looking for a decent server.

Sounds pretty sweet. I'm really curious to see how many players they manage to get online this time.

Of course Resistance managed 40 but I suspect that Guerilla might be pushing the PS3 harder than Insomniac were at that point being a launch game and all.

For totally destructible environments and a rock solid frame rate a max of perhaps 20/24 players online at once would be good.

But who knows. I suspect Guerilla have more than a few tricks up their sleeves for E3.

Killzone 2 mp could be anything right now. In any case I'm pretty sure it will include vehicles this time and hearing about the focus on destruction I guess we can expect something on a larger scale. (As in, I would be surprised if it's max limit was less than 32)

Seeing as how it's featured in two of the "leaked" concept drawings, I wonder if the bayonet is going to be in the game. That'd certainly add a nice level of brutal intimacy.

The knife was pretty cool when you played as Luger. Hearing the gurgling sound when you slit somebody's throat (and as always in KZ, great animation).

That brings something up that hasn't really been talked about much. Killzone featured this (very crude) branching level idea, and I'd like to see that fleshed out and refined. And chances are I'd pick Luger (or another Shadow Marshall character) whenever the option was given, assuming there is a real assassin's path throughout the level.

What I hope to see isn't necessarily different paths per say but the actual skills just actually playing out more differently. Templar might run over a field blasting. Hakha would probably walk over slowly greeting the enemy before using a shotgun. Luger might be crawling in the grass in that field.

Yeah thats what would really be impressive if you could significantly change your experience of any level depending on who you picked.

I don't know... sneaking across rooftops, crawling through ducts and climbing ledges while being able to glance an ongoing "traditional" battle between your buddies and Helghast soldiers take place in alleys below makes a pretty good case for branching paths.

4 player (Online) Co-Op with the fleshed out branching per char like the first one would make me cream.

That sounds like fun.

In my ignorance, that's the type of experience I always hope for when developers get talking about branching levels. It'd be cool if it could be done right and also be implemented into the MP. Make those character classes count for something, you know.

I know next month's UK Playstation mag has KZ2 has the cover game, perhaps we will know more about the true release date then.
Doesn't that come out tomorrow?

It was debunked by Guerrilla I believe so no KZ2 info in the mag. Probably something OPM hadn't totally cleared when last mag went to print.

I see Amazon.co.uk has pre-orders up for Killzone 2

They must be crazy to think this game is coming in July, but that's what it says on the pre-order page.

Nice find, but there's no way we're getting KZ2 in July when Heavenly Sword still doesn't have a firm release date.

sucks if true, then again it's probably for the best. video > screens.

dude you are such a troll! I can't believe you troll mass effect and praise Killzone! Totally absurd

This discussion hasn't been about "praise", it's been about possibilities. Which you would have known had you even bothered reading through the thread. The fact that you insert your ass into the discussion on page 3 and shits out "why are you guys hyping this title" pretty much tells all there is to tell about your contribution here. I wish your posting habits were complex enough to be labeled absurd.

I gotta say i've been too rough on Killzone. Maybe because i like Halo soo much, all things considered, this game could be awesome.

I would like to see some vehicule action, better A.I, and a bit faster pace. Just a bit, i thought the original was a bit too slow.

But Resistance has only been out for four months and new maps are coming. I'm not ready for a sequel yet, not until next year when they will release it. Killzone 2 is coming out this year amirite?

Does Resistance 2 have former members of Appeal, who made the awesome Outcast, working on it? No, so KZ2 for the big DUBBYA.

ahh who am I kidding? I am pretty excited about Killzone 2 as well :D I mean $20 million dollar budget, Naughty Dog technology at work, sharing tech with other SCEWWS studios and an increased workforce. I hope the game turns out well! And I think it will.

But still nothing good has ever come out of Amsterdam which is why i am doubtful. These guys need to deliver!!!

I replayed one of the levels last night, "Strange Company" I think it's called... now is this my imagination, or does the game run considerably better on PS3 than it did on PS2? Anyway, I checked out the knife move of Luger, and I didn't even realize she had a move that involved throwing the knife at an enemy.

I think the biggest issue is that the game was just too ambitious, both in terms of technology and game design. I think they tried too hard to make it special, and somehow forgot to make the core game good. Natural first person motion is a neat idea, but not when it makes the actual combat feel crippled. Get the basics right, and then add the fancy.

That was sweet touch from Guerilla and you had to go and take it out of the helghasts neck, that game was great when it all clicked together.

Too bad it was inconsistent.

I wonder if they will bring Rico back.

no, that guy was pretty ugly! YUCK! They need more female characters, preferably females with massive titties and short skirts! She could play as some kind of advisory role, like briefing missions or transporting troops to battlefields. No more ugly characters!

Rico punched a bit fat hole in whatever serious mood Guerrilla had managed to establish. I don't mind the basic idea of a brutish, mini-gun wielding character to flesh out the character gallery, but Rico was just plain obnoxious.

Frankly it's hard after Resistance to play any shooter that doesn't have as solid a framerate and doesn't control as well.

Why, what happened in Liberation?

He get's captured towards the end by the Helghast. Templar and Luger go off to find him but she informs Templar that there's some really bad news. Anyways, that's what Chapter 5 is supposed to deal with.

PS! I'm totally for the head movement in Killzone and has always been a fan of that. Some of the reloading times can be speed up but I totally dig that camera bump up and down and whatnot according to the situation.

Rico: 'That's messy man!'

Helghast: 'Shatter! Grenade!'

Rico: 'That's messy man!'

Templar: 'HELP ME!'

Helghast: 'Roooarr!!'

Rico: 'That's messy man!'
