A.V. Club: Uwe Boll interview...

Staccat0

Fail out bailed
Here is an interesting interview with Uwe Boll about: Bloodrayne II, Alone in the Dark II, Far Cry, Postal and other game related movies hes working on. Its actually an insightful interview. He has a couple good points, but I'm too much of a movie snob to let him slide...
I hope someone else thinks this is as interesting as I did... Its my first thread, ya see.

The problem with Uwe Boll is that if your going to make a bad movie (err B-Movie) you can't take it seriously!

Evil Dead (the first one) is no where near as important to fans as Army of Darkness because it took itself seriously!

(I havent checked the interview its just random Boll-hate)

I was firmly convinced that Bloodrayne was the worst movie I had ever seen, and there was no possible way BR2 could be worse

I was wrong

BR2 is the worst movie ever made

If you watch this (I recommend friends + alcohol), watch out for the Indians in the canoe!

I'll pass lol. I actually wasn't aware he was doing FAR CRY thats just silly...
I guess its neat his Alone in the dark sequel coincides with Alone in the Dark 5...

AVC: Why respond to it or even acknowledge it? Most artists, when they get a negative review, just brush it off and try to stay above the fray.

UB: I know, but I'm different. [Laughs.] I like the direct contact. I went to the Penny Arcade in Seattle, where 2,000 people were booing me for 20 minutes. But at the end of the thing, at least three or four hundred people came to me with BloodRayne and Alone In The Dark DVDs to sign. I was like, "Now you're coming to me with these DVDs, but when I was onstage, you were booing me like I'm the Antichrist standing there?" I do that because I want a lot of people that only know me [through] the mass media to learn more about what I'm doing, and to know that I'm an independent filmmaker and I'm not part of the Hollywood system. I'm coming from where they started. I'm not coming from a family with a lot of money, I had $60,000 for my first movie. I was 33 before I made any money off of movies. I worked my ass off for free. To get that I'm "enemy number one" among young kids is a little absurd. Michael Bay got $100 million for his first movie, and Eli Roth—"The Future Of Horror" because of Cabin Fever and Hostel—is the fucking son of Joe Roth, a studio chief! These guys are getting turned into heroes? [Michael Bay actually received $23 million for Bad Boys, and Eli Roth is the son of a Harvard professor and a painter. —ed.]

What an asshat.

So he works his ass off to make abysmal films and people are supposed to respect him for that?

Yeah, okay Boll. I'm gonna... go over there, in case you get the urge to hit the bad people to prove you're better. Again.

There's a lot of independent filmmakers out there working outside the Hollywood system, and very few of them suck as bad as Uwe Boll. And I like how he holds up Eli Roth and Michael Bay as people who are considered heroes, like those guys haven't gotten their share of well deserved flack from movie fans.

You know, really Uwe Boll should be glad that people hate him so much. Most directors of his "talent" would be forced to toll away for decades in anonymity in Direct-to-Video hell. Instead, he's actually managed to find someone to release Postal and In the Name of the King in theaters. His movies are crap, everyone knows they're crap, so why would anyone want to release them? Obviously because they're hoping that his infamy can generate a few million bucks as people show up to the theater out of morbid curiosity. Not only that, he still gets people to interview him about his latest movies, and is invited to make appearances at conventions, just because his insanity and delusions about the quality of his movies make him so interesting. I bet Albert Pyun and Fred Olen Ray wish they were as universally hated as Uwe Boll.
