A Zephyr question!

I'm sure there's a thread exactly like this somewhere, but I thought I might as well make a new one.

So yeah, a quick question, has the Zephyr had any problems yet? And how likely is it that it will in the near future? I mean surely the second heat sink should theoretically stop all the problems, but yeah, I just wanted to make sure before I purchase one on friday.

Thanks.

Zephir =\= 2nd heatsink

there were Zephir boards without the second heatsink (just with HDMI, epoxy on CPU/GPU and different components layout. first Elites to hit stores months ago) and some of those crapped out exactly like the old non-Zephir boards.

2nd heatsink is a different story. as of now the only report of dead 360s that had the second heatsink comes from some obscure Spanish forum and i don't think those were Zephir boards with the second heatsink, just old non-HDMI boards with the added heatsink (if that makes any difference tho).

there's a huge thread btw :P

:)

Should I just gamble and purchase an Elite this friday when it's launched over here? I mean how likely is it that it would break?

no, wait until you're sure it's a falcon. Open it in the store if you've got to.

otherwise it's pretty much for sure that it will break right before Halo 3 is released.

I was originally going to wait for the Falcons, but I've waited far too long to play good games! :lol

I am. I'm pretty convinced that these models are stable though, because I was originally going to wait for 65nm too.

I'm not sure about the out of warranty repair cost, but you realistically wouldn't have to worry about that for a long time anyway.

That thing from Ratchet and Clank has the NeoGAF logo on it... although in blue...

I bought one a week ago from best buy with a product replacement plan so when the 65 or rumored 45 nm units come out, I can just trade out. It costs more, but there's a lot less waiting involved.

Sorry for the questions, but how much does it cost to get a 360 repaired out of the warranty?
What are you talking about, money or psychological effects? It will cost you a lot on both sides anyway. Prepare yourself to wait and wait even more.
Seriously Xun, you seem like a nice guy just keep playing your guitar or buy a PS3. You'll thank me later.

:lol @ psychological

i think thats how it will hit him hard the most. Xbox 360 has 3 years warrenty system, that means by the time 3 years are over, the new xbox concolse should be ready to go out in the market

even then, the 360 would be so cheap. you can buy one without any money problem [ say 150$ for the core ? ] because u wont need the HDD, u already have one from the system you buy this friday

I was going to post that R&C robot, but I see it was already done by the fifth reply. That robot's design is absolutely hilarious, they nailed the likeness completely. Can't wait to see the other two, that are based off PS3 and Wii.

Is there any way to figure out if you've got a unit with a Zephyr board by just looking at the unit itself? The replacement unit I got back from MS for a fix had a build date of August 7th this year, yet doesn't have the HDMI port. I know they were getting rid of old components still, but I was curious if they had actually put an old-style case on a Zephyr board, blocking off the HDMI out? (Maybe even to discourage people from trying to fake reasons to swap in non-HDMI 360s.) Or would that be impossible?

It seems unlikely, I know, but considering the build date, it's just gnawed at me a bit.
