The next carrier being made is the USS John F. Kennedy, and they've already named one after Reagan and Bush Senior, so they're not really going in any particular order at all...
USS jimmy carter
USS Ronald Reagan
USS George HW Bush
USS Bill Clinton
USS George W Bush
that's 5 carriers BEFORE USS Barrack Obama, before 2025...
Well considering USS Gerald Ford took 10 years to build, we'll need Trump to order this new class of carrier to every ship yard in the country ASAP to meet Black Ops 2 !
And why naming a carrier after a president less then a decade after he left office will be indeed quick (though not unprecedented) there is really nothing that prevent you from calling it whatever the fuck you want.
There is the USS Ronald Reagan and USS George H.W. Bush.
There is also the Seawolf (sorta) class nuclear submarine USS Jimmy Carter, because he actually served on a nuclear submarine.
EDIT: Also neat is the fact that the Jimmy Carter is basically the super special ops submarine, so while it might seem like it's a slight at Jimmy Carter, it's actually not.
Naming at the end of the day now is very much just politics. FDR was the first President to get a Carrier named after him at the expense of Honoring the Battle of the Coral Sea which was the ships namesake before renamed to FDR.
I don't mind the Bush,Kennedy and Ford so much as they were Naval officers. I do think they need to bring back the Historic names though that have a storied history like Yorktown, Essex etc.
It's only a recent tradition isn't it? Carriers used to have awesome names like Enterprise, Yorktown, Kitty Hawk, Ticonderoga... now they get USS Gerald R. Ford. Lame.
