Yeh, I know, this thread gets done a lot... but not "teh best game you ever played" or "the most meaningful in the genre" or "the first game you ever played...", but..
What game made (makes) you admit to being a video gamer? There's a difference.
I guess mine would have to be:
Sqoon on the Atari 2600 - I saw the older brother of one of my good friends playing this and was blown away as compared to my parentally-provided Odyssey I system. Piqued my interest permanently.
Dragon warrior IV on the NES: the hours I spent on this game with my cousin before we discovered girls
... and then those magical nights when we realized girls were so far out of reach that we kept going trying to beat this game. Popcorn, Dr. Pepper, 3am nights trying to make a little progress.
Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System... taking nearly a full 12 months to beat this with a friend, yet again before the discovery of the elusive, magical race of Girls.
After discovery of Girls:
Yoshi's Island: found a girl that likes to play it. Still with her.
