This may be a tragic story. This is the story of the first french revolution. Which was mostly a failure. But the moments where we succeed, right a wrong, and see how that changes and effects the world could be considered reprieve. I'm actually curious about the fate of the main character.

Have they said anything about Arno's personality? I'm good with a tragic story, but I hope he's an interesting character, not just a stick in the mud.

Have there been any announcements of a presence at Gamescom? That's where Black Flag was first playable for the public last year, and this is releasing almost exactly a year afterward, so I'd hope for it to be there.

Or more specifically.
“He is a very driven young man. He is haunted by mistakes in his past or perceived mistakes, that he feels he must atone for. He is very devoted to the Assassin Order as an ideal but, at the same time, he is not as impressed with the weight of the long mystical tradition and ancient rhetoric as some of the other Assassins. He likes to think for himself and make his own decisions. He isn't the type of person who will believe something just because someone tells it to him. He is a very well educated young man. He was raised in a noble household and had access to tutors and books so he is very well-read. He has a habit of quoting the classics and tends to use humour to deflect when he is emotionally vulnerable, like a lot of people do I think. We very much wanted him to not be the sort of grizzled bad-ass spouting one-liners that you see in a lot of action movies. We wanted him to feel like an actual person."

There hasn't been any official announcements but we may be seeing a new demo or trailer of AC Unity at the microsoft conference and/or the reveal of the other title coming that will this year for last gen consoles.

Black Flag was the last and fortunately best AC they've ever made, so I'm happy that they seem to be getting what people want in an AC. Seeing the rest of the changes that people have been asking for going forward is even better.

If for some reason Ubi was crazy enough to remake the trilogy for new gen with the advanced stealth and parkour, I'd be all over that shit. I don't care if it breaks the game, just give it us!

Not risking it myself until some reviews are in. Fully expecting to purchase on PSX1 sadly.

It'll probably still both look and run on a decent PC than on the two consoles, I suppose...

But damn, the disaster that was Watch_Dogs being a gift alongside my GTX 780 really hurt Ubisoft. I'll never trust a PC port of theirs to be serviceable again...

My most hyped game of the year with Shadow of Mordor. I can't wait to parkour on Paris's rooftops. A bit less than 3 months now!!

A bit disapointed about there not being a day/night cycle anymore, though. Loved it in Black Flag.

Paris stories missions
-Nostradamus treasure hunt; You will to use the database entries to help solve riddles left by Nostradamus

Could this be the return of the puzzles and vaults?

The bright side of having no day and night cycle is that the game's lighting can look pitch perfect at all times instead of the situation we got in Watch Dogs where sometimes the world would look flat at noon but extremely beautiful at night when it's raining. Dynamic weather conditions are also making a return, and on top of that we're getting more advanced GI. We will also most likely get the option to choose between different times of day or seasons like in AC3/4.

I certainly hope so, because those made the Ezio games absolute stand-outs in the series. The conspiracy stuff (i.e., puzzles) got left out of AC3 altogether, and replaced in AC4 with some weak-sauce
Abstergo employee email chains.

Wait. I just said "...the Ezio games..."

Love my fill of AC every year and this being the first proper "next-gen" entry, I'm even more excited. Looking forward to it.

Those email chains and audio logs were cool too. I want both in Unity.

Paris? Humorous protagonist who quotes the classics? No guards on rooftops? DEDICATED CROUCH BUTTON?? Hnnnnnnnng, gimme gimme gimme NOW.

After reading this thread, I'm itching to go back and play the Ezio trilogy again.

I'm most excited by the skill tree and the new combat system. I LOVED AC4, but the combat was the worse part of it. It just turned into a "press X to 1 hit kill everyone". So I'm really hyped that they are making the fights a little more challenging and getting rid of kill streaks..

5000 NPCs at once on screen? Really? Do they mean in-game during gameplay or are they including cutscenes?
tumblr_n6x929uOKx1r77xsbo1_250.gif

Expect at the very least a few hundred most of the time during gameplay and a boost in npcs during missions.

Do we know whether the co-op features extend to the story missions as well, or are they just limited to a few specific multiplayer missions and general free-roaming? Game looks incredible and setting is great, but if I can't play through the whole story campaign with friends, will be extremely disappointed.

Thanks. October seems early for this to be released, I really hope they're giving this one room to breathe. I've always felt this series has a great deal of latent potential, and this would be the ideal time for it to finally be fully realized.

Even people i know who don't own a next gen machine, aren't fans of the time period and don't really play AC games know about this game and are hyped.

Really reeeeaaaaally hoping there is something magical here and it pulls me in like AC1 did... except with stellar gameplay.

p.s. 5000 fucking NPCs on the screen at once???? Hummina...

Unconfirmed whether every mission is co-op. However this is most likely not the case considering Ubi promised a full fledged SP campaign like players are used to.

There is quite literally never a moment where Ubi's studios aren't working on this game. It's on a 24/7 dev cycle between multiple studios until it goes gold before release.

Combat
-The new combat system is based on skill, timing, and flow
-Enemies are both smarter and tougher, but so is Arno. Button mashing will no longer work when facing a large crowd.
-The instant, one button counter kill and kill streaks are both gone

AC:Unity is the first true next gen iteration of the longstanding AC franchise. Ever since e3 we've received tons upon tons of information about the game. But what I find baffling is how little people seem to know about the game, it's mechanics, and how Ubisoft is enhancing the tried and true AC experience. And also how often threads where people display even a tiny bit of hype we have the same people who come in with their drive by posts.
For example, the last AC:Unity thread had several posts like this.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=123168833&postcount=3
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=123184931&postcount=55

^ None of this please.
I for one, am very excited about playing the new version of one of my favorite gaming franchises, even more so considering that it won't be held back by last gen consoles.
And courtesy of reddit, here's everything we know so far about AC:Unity. I can edit in the information for those who don't wanna click the link.

Highlights from the Reddit post.

Cast and Crew
-The Creative Director on ACU is Alex Amancio; who was also the Creative Director on ACR
-The Lead Writer on ACU is Travis Stout; who was also the lead writer on State of Decay
-ACU will have three composers: Chris Tilton, Sarah Schachner and Ryan Amon, preview of the game's soundtrack here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb0moWEErOM
-Arno's voice actor is Dan Jeannotte

CO-OP
-Seamless 2-4 player co-op
-The skills and unique gear you acquire in solo missions will be accessible in co-op
-You will also select one of four unique co-op skills that will help your team survive, evade or kill more effectively.
-Full co-op support in the open world
-There is a large incentive to replay the co-op missions with randomized enemies, alternate paths, and various tactical options that can lead you to new challenges, encounters, and rewards.
-You are always playing Arno. When you're playing co-op, you're actually playing a memory of Arno performing a Brotherhood mission for the Assassin Brotherhood. From everybody’s perspective, they're playing Arno. However, other players can see your gear, outfits, and weapons so unless everyone chooses the exact same gear, weapon types, colors, and cloth textures, it's very hard to make clones.
-All co-op missions are optional, story based and can even be played solo. The developers promise that those of us who love playing through the game's solo campaign and side missions will not feel underserved. Warning, missions for obvious reasons are harder if you play with less than the recommended amount of players, and naturally easier when you play with more than the recommended amount of players.
-There will be at least eleven Brotherhood (co-op) missions.

Customization
-As you complete missions, you’ll earn skill points, which you’ll be able to spend upgrading your skills.
-Unity includes different skill trees for stealth, combat and navigation; it’s up to you how you spend those points.
-Confirmed available weapons: Spears, Axes, Swords, Pistols, smoke bombs, muskets and the Phantom Blade.
-The skills and unique gear you acquire in solo missions will be accessible in co-op
-There is a massive amount of customization options for Arno’s robes. You can mix, match and decide which hoods, top body, lower body, and boots you can wear. As well as the option to get rid of the iconic assassin coat tails. You can also edit the texture that appears. From plain white clean clothes to dirty stripes.

Combat
-The new combat system is based on skill, timing, and flow
-Enemies are both smarter and tougher, but so is Arno. Button mashing will no longer work when facing a large crowd.
-The instant, one button counter kill and kill streaks are both gone
-The Phantom Blade, the new form of Hidden Blade which can also fire projectiles. It has two main modes, the instant kill bolt, and the berserker bolt (Which works the same as the berserker dart in AC4). The Phantom Blade can also be helpful with causing a distraction, where a guard will go over to check a dead body
-New combat moves include parry, dodge, tackle and heavy attack.
-One skill tree will be devoted to combat
-Confirmed available weapons: Spears, Axes, Swords, Pistols, muskets and the Phantom Blade

Stealth
-The stealth system has had a complete overhaul
-There is now a dedicated stealth mode, where at the press of a button, you crouch, move slower, are harder to detect and can cover against objects
-Stealth mode is activated by pressing LB(On XB1) or L1(PS4)
-When evading your pursuers it is vital you break the line of sight, they will search for you in your last known position
-There is a new disguise skill

Open World/Side Missions
-Full co-op support in the open world
-The buildings in Paris, including historic monuments like Notre Dame, are 1:1 scale, the city itself, is about the size of the frontier in AC3
-You can explore sewers and the famous catacombs of Paris seamlessly with no loading screens.
-Solvable murders are spread throughout Paris

Paris stories missions
-Nostradamus treasure hunt; You will to use the database entries to help solve riddles left by Nostradamus

Changes/Enhancements to the AC Formula
-Dynamic events like participating in fights or chasing a thief are available in the open world
-The new high ground feature allows you to see all the gameplay opportunities in the near by vicinity by simply being high up
-There will no longer be guards patrolling the rooftops
-There is no longer an automatic day/night cycle
-One quarter of buildings are enterable seamlessly with no loading screens.
-There is a max of 5,000 NPC’s on screen at once
-Parkour changes
1.The parkour system has been overhauled, we now have the ability to parkour down as well as up just by the press of a different button.
You parkour up by holding A/X and RT/R2 and can parkour down by holding B/Circle and RT/R2

Main Missions/Story
-Arno grew up in Versailles and that is where the game will begin
-Arno has French and Austrian heritage and joins the Assassins in 1789
-There are two main categories of missions: Adaptive Mission Mechanic (AMM) and Blackbox
AMM missions give a theme and can change depending on what you do during a mission. For example, if you’re caught during a tailing sequence, it becomes a chase sequence. If you lose your target, it becomes a locate sequence.
Blackbox missions give you an area to explore, “create opportunities, and kill your target.”
You can replay missions and complete them in different ways.
When accepting a mission, you can see the difficulty of the mission on a scale of 1-5 stars, what friends are playing it, and, if it’s a Brotherhood (co-op) mission, the maximum number of players that are allowed.

No guards on rooftops all I needed to hear...

No guards on rooftops, crouch button with better stealth mechanics, back to a beautiful european city...can't wait to play it.

-There is now a dedicated stealth mode, where at the press of a button, you crouch, move slower, are harder to detect and can cover against objects

I can't believe it took that long.

I'm not so sure about the lack of guards on rooftops. So you can just dance around up there and nobody will see you? That seems like cheating.

I sincerely hope that co-op missions being solo-friendly means that I'll be able to hit 100% completion without having to touch the game's MP component.

Never had an issue with rooftop guards, to be honest. Made skipping between the rooftops fun.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about that. They could be annoying at times but at least their presence made sense.

I'm very excited to play this, despite the lack of day/night cycle, and a soundtrack that, once again (after ACIII) sounds incredibly generic.

Just get Jesper Kyd back, PLEASE!

No guards on rooftops all I needed to hear...
And all you needed to quote! ;)

Man, for better or worse, this is starting to sound like an AC that was made by people who weren't just tired of the current formula, but frustrated by it. Guards on the rooftops always felt like one of those AC-isms that would never change, but here we are.

I'm not too sure about the removal of the day-night cycle, but aside from that, this is sounding pretty great. The dynamic to messing up a tail rather than a fail-state will be pretty big if it comes off. You'd want that type of dynamism to feature as much as possible moving forward (with open-world games in general, not just Assassin's Creed).

Jasper Kyd's work on Assassins Creed 2 was outstanding. That game has the most amazing soundtrack. The action/fight tunes and the exploration/discovery tunes are equally as amazing.

Lack of comet news is disheartening. I was looking forward to having 2 AC games to play in 2014

They haven't mentioned framerates again right? They said they were targeting 60...I kinda feel like they were just riding the 1080/60 hype wave...
