What this news does describe is a real latent want by developers to move away as quickly as possible from current gen shackles to explore new design possibilities courtesy of next-gen hardware.

Development of games with proper HW utilisation is cheaper/more efficient if you do not target multiple generations at once? I am shocked...

... not that shocked, but then again I do not think supporting multiple performance levels is ever that cheap nor simple.

Nice. The quicker we leave current gen hardware in the dust the better.

Even though the trailer had shots that weren't impressive and the quality wasn't consistent from scene to scene, overall it looks miles better than 7 and had some shots that looked absolutely incredible like this:

So glad it's next gen only, that could only make it better. Really looking forward to the final game.

I thought Capcom liked money?

They'd make more doing it cross-gen I think.

You also spend more if you do not want to compromise your vision and support both generations and a new generation gives an opportunity to stand out... so you want them to constrain their vision? Sell the game twice? Jack up the price of the game to cover the extra development?

I read somewhere on twitter that some of the trailer was an older build, and they are still updating their engine for next gen as well.

Not if you want RTX and zero loading screens.

Didn't exactly look like extensive use of rtx in the trailer if any, and loading on game like re8 is a non issue

There’s an interview/preview thing a few days ago with the REVIII game directors on YouTube, and they confirmed it’s only on next generation. Thought it was interesting at the time as everyone assumed it was coming to current gen.

Yes. This video. Recommend everyone to watch.

RE8 looked good graphically. Those saying it looks like PS4 game needs to get their eyes checked.

There was questionable frame rate in the reveal trailer but the game is still in development so that's okay for now. No reason to get all worked up on it.

Just marketing bull.

Not necessarily. The core RE team is always grumbling about hardware holding them back, going all the way back to RE6.

Having recently revisited RE7 on PS4 Pro, expecting improved performance and seeing textures still struggle to load, I can only see this as a good thing.

Glad to see the trend of "muh graphics" as the only thing a game is compromised of is still alive and well

The games coming to PC though.....:a platform which a lot of users still utilize HDD’s and non-nvme SSDs. If you think this game is going to launch with an nvme as a minimum system requirement on PC I don’t know what to tell you.

They dropped 100 million PS4 owners and 40 million Xbox One owners

And you still think they give a shit if you're still on a HDD on PC?

You said graphics have nothing to do with it implying that it’s the SSD. Care to explain why current gen consoles are holding it back if it’s not the SSD?

Never expected that I'm quite surprised, probably it's a decision made later in developement it looked among the worsts for generational jump in terms of graphic especially after delivering two graphic masterpiece like the 2 remakes

If true then Capcom deserves the praise for choosing to fully delivery their vision with the new hardware..

Capcom and its shenanigans... Can't do anything right lol Well, I guess lowered expectations and actual release is better than lots of hot air.
because i like the setting this low blow from capcom and sony was even worst than killzone 2 one.
But this is where i definitively learnt my lesson of what to expect from those reveal events.

You are getting a better product and Capcom couldn't make it work without heavy sacrifices on current gen, they have a lot of confidence in 8 hopefully it pays off, this is the best decision for the game and im not even planning to buy a PS5 for years.

Its the same with current RE games on the Switch, the downgrade would be too much for their standards.

It’s not the SSD since it’s coming to PC. So what’s the reason it’s avoiding current gen if graphics don’t matter?

They already told you the reason in the quote?

What makes you think just because its coming to PC you're going to be able to run it without running into the issues they talked about using a HDD?

I've played RE7 two months ago on Xbox One X and tbh the graphics in this reveal looks really close, except for the horrible framerate.

Not a bad thing, because RE7 looks amazing (except for some things that felt rushed), but I don't understand how this can't be done on a console like the One X. I guess there will be lot bigger locations? Or lot more enemies together? Or, easier, it would not works on base PS4/X1 and then they taken the decision to skip PS4 pro/One X too.

well half of me says BS because that game did not look next gen...
The other half of me saw the framrate issues and says... maybe it can't run on old hardware... not for visuals... but for how it's made

Developer announces cross-gen game: "NOOOO the vision is compromised"
Developer announces next-gen exclusive game: "dumb, it doesn't look that great, they should make it cross-gen"

BS. Bet I can run it on my FX 6300 and RX 580 at 1080p 30 FPS. It's a first person RE, how CPU bound can it be?

How do you know, the game isn't out yet

I guess that will have big scenarios. RE7 has the house, and then another house and then the ship. A lot of corridors and all very tiny areas, which works because of direction theme was Kitchen. Now I think that they will do more openned areas, kinda inspired on RE4, and more because the theme is Village.

For those concerned about the character models in the RE8 trailer, know that those are most likely WIP--not final. We've seen this with the RE2R and RE3R trailers. In those trailers, we saw changes/improvements to the Leon, Claire and Jill models by the time the final games released.

Also, some of the RE8 trailer footage is likely taken from the PS4 Pro version, which is what play testers from the RE Ambassador program reportedly played the game on back in March of last year. Now that the game is bumped up to next gen consoles, expect graphical improvements to be made.

Graphics wise i think it could be done, but the tech behind the hood is different, there are NO load times on RE8.
RE7 had texture loading problems plus long load times on a limited scope, the X still has to deal with the slow hard drive and jaguar cpus.

And the fact that no Xbox ONE X exclusive games exist, its basically a machine to play ONE S games at higher settings, i guess Capcon just wanted to focus on the new Series X.

But i suppose techniqally its not impossible to make an X resident evil 8 with some compromises

Great point. That's why I brought up PC minimum reqs in the OP. If they're dropping current gen to make full use of the SSD/I/O, capping with the Xbox Series X, it's gonna be extremely interesting to see what minimum reqs they come up with for PC.

I thought it looked rough as a bears arse.

Refuse to believe it couldn't run on an XBO-X.

If we see HDD as minimum spec then we know it's all bullshit.

Had anyone thought of the possibility that it looked choppy, because it is barely running on PS5 as it is, and that it doesn't run at all on PS4?

Much like how The Last Guardian couldn't run on the PS3?

At this point I am used to Japanese developers struggling to fix their code. It makes perfect sense to me that they built a game that ended up couldn't function on current gen hardware, and this would be separate to how ugly or beautiful it looked.

Lots of negativity on RE8. Haha, for once, I'm feeling very optimistic. The leaks had me excited, and the trailer delivered. Some of the face models were rough, and the frame rate needs work, but the lack of loading, the incredible setting, and the new enemy types have me super excited.

Imagine of the level design for the village is as solid and well-paced as the village in RE4. What if the castle is as well designed as the mansion in REmake or the RPD in RE2? All I know is that I love the setting, atmosphere and enemies we've seen so far. If the level design and pacing is there, this could be one of the best RE games. It definitely looks more promising to me than RE3R ever did.

The game looked dull in terms of colors and environment, but still looks like its gonna be a good game like RE 7.

Not surprised. RE 8 should be cross-gen because with such a small user install base that PS5/XSX/XSS will have, Capcom would be taking a massive risk. The game was built for current gen/cross-gen anyway like every game is for the first two years or so.

I will be playing RE 8 on Xbox Series X so it doesn't matter for me personally but as a fan of Capcom for the last few years, I do want to see the game sell past their expectations which will only happen if it's cross-gen because you can't just throw away 160m users between PS4/XB1. That would be horrible business.

I wonder if Capcom knows that there’s a spy in their ranks.

I’m ready to throw my money at Capcom for this because VII was awesome. It came out around the time they’re expecting Village to come out. I just want a good time with the game.

They could stream VII on the Switch in Japan. Use some of that cloud based technology and make even more people happy.
