Ace Combat Zero GS Impression's

Based on our brief playtime, Ace Combat Zero is looking like a strong entry in the series so far. The return of special weapons and the new gameplay elements, especially the Ace Style Gauge, seem like cool additions to the game. The rivals are a tough new challenge that should be interesting, especially given that there are roughly 150 of them to take on over the game's course. Look for more on Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War in the coming months.

I love the HUD colour. The dark green colour HUD in AC5 was sooo fucking annoying! Looks like they have gone with AC4 colour hud.

Cannot wait for this game. I need a new Ace Combat fix so badly. It'll hold me until AC next gen :(

Yeah same here. I think we will have to wait until winter 2007 for Ace Combat next gen. One reason why Namco was able to release AC4 quickly on PS2 (within the first year) was because they used pre-rendered backgrounds but with the PS3 they will probably go with real time backgrounds and I guess R&D will take a lot of time.

Damn, I was thinking about ace combat the other day while I was watching flight of the intruder! :)

I wonder if they will re-release the flightstick with this one? I also wonder if the flightstick will work with the next-gen (PS3?) one.

Also, to anyone that has the flightstick, does it work with PC flight games too? I have been itching to get a new flight sim for my PC but I have no stick....

I don't think PS2 accessories are backwards compatible with PS3. And I am not sure if the Namco flight stick works with pc.

the flightstick is USB so it should be possible...

I just really like perhiphals that I can use with my console/PC (like the logitec racing wheel).

Oh well unless someone says otherwise I'll just get a PC flightstick then. Acecombat is still perfectly playable on the control pad, PC SIMs suck ass with anything less than a full HOTAS setup :D

oh so its usb! That changes everything :P I think it will be compatible with both PS3 and PC. Check gamefaqs AC5 forum for more info

What do they mean by "return of special weapons"? Are they referring to the secondary weapons that all aircrafts have? These were never that special anyway....

Yeah they were special in AC4. I don't think you can choose weapons in AC5 but selecting ground based weapons in AC4 made certain missions more fun.

Lifeline for example. That mission is meh with Air to air missiles but way more fun when you have air to ground weapons.

AFAIK, there were special weapons in AC5. I distinctly remember using them....

The flightstick is compatible with the PC, but you need special drivers to get it working(I don't have the link). I got Freespace 2 running with it, but I also had to spend an amazing amount of time tweaking and binding stuff to get a solid scheme locked down. It ended up being more trouble than it is worth.

AC4 and 5 are amazing with the stick though.

You bitches got me to get AC4, while it was good, it wasn't anywhere near great/awesome territory.

Crimson Skies >>> AC.

Main fault of AC4 is that it's pretty easy. On the highest difficulty it's still not very challenging, but the excitement is a little higher than on normal. Despite that I liked the presentation and overall feel of the game quite a bit, and played the hell out of it in multiplayer. *shrug*, hardly a bad game to recommend I think ;b

I spent time playing AC4 late 2004 as well and still think it holds up nicely. It isn't as sharp looking as AC5 and lacks some the expanded features, but it makes up for it with some harrowing ace dogfights, a nifty narrative presentation, a swath of planes to buy, and a pretty kickass final mission. Much of the game is rudimentary though.

Yeah, I still think AC4 is awesome. BUT, there's no doubt Crimson Skies deserves at least equal praise this generation, if not more. I wish for more Crimson Skies, but it doesn't seem likely at the moment :(

What do you mean by pre-rendered backgrounds? Everything in AC4 was realtime rendered textured polygons.

That's the thing, no one really hyped up Crimson Skies and as a result I almost missed out on it. Its an incredible game one of the best MS 1st party games for Xbox. Its a shame that we'll probably never see another one :/
