I tried to watch the sequel on Netflix about a month ago. Made it about thirty minutes before turning it off.

I did always like the original more though, so I might still enjoy it.

I don't even remember the sequel properly. The original is great though.

Am I horribly mistaken here, or was there an episode in the cartoon series set in the wild west or something, and they were possibly trying to hang people, or at least holding a public trial of some sorts?

I watched this on valentine's day with my gf a couple of years ago. It was awesome. I hadn't seen the movie in almost a decade, but it was just as funny as I remembered.

Regarding AVD, I don't know man, it's just not that good. Sure there were a couple of giggles here and there, but that's about it.

Ace Ventura getting hit by the tranq darts is one of the best moments in comedy ever, I don't give a fuck what anyone says.

The spears in the legs is classic as well. Ace Venture 2 is awesome.
