Subscribed. So I got almost 3500 points, better than expected. Goals for the month: finish Assassin's Creed II, starting up Killzone 2 again, advance on Plants vs. Zombies and maybe start up Darksiders.

Nice. I also want to thank everyone for making last month's thread the biggest ever!

Want to get into this thread actually. I'm at around 82K and trying to go for 100k by the end of this year. I have a big backlog, and buying a few games this year so I think I should be okay.

Haha, fantastic OP.

Didn't really do all that much in July, just:
Binary Domain single player 100%
Gravity Rush platinum and 100% DLC
Mirror's Edge platinum (having been ~70% beforehand)
Rayman: Origins platinum

This month I guess I'll set my goals at:
Jak & Daxter platinum
Jak II platinum
Jak 3 platinum
Metal Gear Solid 4 platinum
Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack 100%

I added MGS4 because the new budget release is meant to come out this month, so I'm hoping they release the patch at the same time.

I'd like to start Atelier Rorona (just bought into the series) and/or Tales of Graces F at one point and one day I'll have to get back into Yakuza: Dead Souls. One day.

Damn this summer has been the slowest trophy gain ever. It's almost ironic that my score for July comes up as 360.

I should finish up Driver San Francisco, which started out great, but has lost a lot of its original appeal. The higher end cars are often horrible to drive, spinning out almost all the time.

The R&C HD collection was a good purchase, but the first game was never my favorite.

Darksiders II will be the next proper title to delve into.

The fact that the temperatures around here climb to 30 degrees Celsius aren't helping either.

July was pretty slow for me, Skyrim took so damn long, and I was a bit burnt out after that. As always, I want to get the Dead Space: Extraction platinum to complete my Dead Space collection, but it seems pretty hard. Other than that, Arkham city and Uncharted 1/2/3 are games I'm considering platting, and I also want to 100% RE4.

Holy shit 8th and I've not touched my ps3 in a week. Slackers ;)

I just about made my target of 100000 points last month by the skin of my teeth. My first 2 trophies of August will be virtually impossible on mgs 2 ps3 and vita

Suscribing as well, I need to get around to my 1K per month gamerscore that I started when I bought my 360 in Dec 08. I'm like four or five K behind I think. ;_;

EDIT: Buying Star Ocean and keep playing old games isn't helping my case haha.

card.png

I'm even replaying Fallout 3 in the PC to get me some points, haha.

Subbed too. Working on the Simpsons which I have totally slacked off. Gonna try to plat MGS4 as long as it isn't seriously ludicrous on the trophies. Then get back on the saddle for Fallout: New Vegas.

Wooohooo 3rd on Xbox, but man 3333 is a strange number to earn.

August Goals
Xbox
185,000 - Since after this month college and work will run my life. thank god for WP7
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is my new pet peeve to finish since Mass Effect 2 got beaten

PS3
3D Dot Game Heroes
Back to the Future EP5

Vita
I caved and bought one of these so my trophy count shall rise like dough! Hope I don't regret this insanity >_<

July summary
Ratchet & Clank Trilogy (100%x3)
Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time (100%)
Tekken 6 (100%)
Motorstorm RC free Vita platinum

August Goals:

PS3
Finish Yakuza 3, Resonance of Fate and DMC1&3 platinums once for all (yeah, sure...)

PS Vita
Gravity Rush
Everybody's Golf 6

Hopefully I'll crack MLB12 The Show and get it's platinum inside for my 10th plat.

Other than that, I have a lot of games I plan on working on. Some that I plan to platinum, some that don't have one, and others that I just want to get the most I can out of because I know I can't plat them.

I expect big things this month. Going to link to this thread in the old one. Had to do a search for this guy.

Oh yeah I forgot to add that in post#2, will do that tonight. Basically your card and score tallying will be added in next month's thread.

Can I be add as well? I posted in July's thread as well as another month.

July conclusion:
100%'d Bayonetta since this post

Started Binary Domain. 31/50 530GS
I really really enjoyed the story. I'm also liking VS a lot, aside from having to work really hard to get matches going. For the last few days I've been the one mass friending and/or inviting people on my recent played list, since no one else thinks to do it, and no one is willing to wait around just a little bit. Haven't really tried invasion. It gets frustrating playing online period since I've been disconnecting a little more frequently these days (either something is up with my connection or my xbox)

4 100%s

August outlook
Binary Domain (already 3 for 55GS)
The Outfit (lol)

I guess I'm a really bad trophy whore, finishing in the middle of the pack again. I guess my ADD takes over and I cannot devote enough tiem into 1 game at a tiem to get platinum.

example I finished FF XIII-2, but instead of going back and finishing up some trophies for plat., I finally started Skyrim. Damn backlog is to blame.... that's it.

Had no idea I racked up that many points.

Stardrone is pretty crazy for trophies, game is dirt cheap and you get the entire 2nd set of trophies for free for syncing your PS3/Vita save. Honestly had no idea that the game would do that, wouldn't have minded just blasting through a 2nd playthrough but thats cool too.

Other things I did in July were wrap up my 100% in Gravity Rush, start and 100% Tales from Mutant Space, get most of the trophies in Plants vs Zombies and make a ton of progress towards my Dragon's Dogma platinum.

Goals for August:

Actually finish said Dragon's Dogma platinum (finally blitzing through the 2nd playthrough and knocking off a few quests I missed in the 1st)

Start and plat Lollipop Chainsaw and Spiderman Shattered Dimensions (I have no idea why Blockbuster sent me this game first as it was nowhere near the top of my queue :<)

And dive into Persona 4 Arena. Playing with fire as I've never played Persona 4 and really do want to play Golden, meaning I have to skip all of story mode in P4A and just try to avoid as much spoiler crap as I can.

Madden comes out on the 31st. I wonder if I'll be able to basically platinum the entire game in a day like the past couple Maddens.

For the Vita, Sound Shapes for the start of the month and I believe Ragnarok Odyssey is still coming out this month so thats good.

Have you played Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie yet?

This month I plan to complete Fable III then devote the rest to playing Skyrim! That right there is going to take me the whole month.

July summary :(
50 Cent: BotS - 165GS
Skyrim - 20GS

Goals (August)
complete Dawnguard DLC (20/250)
complete 50 Cent: BotS (900/1000)
Sleeping Dogs 800+/1000

My only accomplishment in July was getting platinum for Silent Hill: Downpour. I've still got to finish off Jak II and III, in which I need the orb collection trophies for both. Oh that's going to suck.

For my next game, I've got DmC HD collection, Nier, and Uncharted 3 in my backlog, but don't know which to start out on...hmmm.

Hakooma is the arabic word for Government btw~

Been playing UC3 and will consider Platinuming it after I beat it, for the most part, Crushing is friggin' absurd, and Naughty Dog need to stop adding such a difficulty in any of their future games, they are un-fun >=/

August Goals.

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (Platinum)
Back to the Future (Platinum)
Mini Ninjas (Platinum)
Prison Break (Platinum)
Sly Cooper 2 (Platinum)
Sly Cooper 3 (Platinum)

I'm going for the GOLD this month. Easy platinum trophies to boost my score this month with a little Rainbow Moon on the side.

6th on the PS3 list is not to shabby! Getting a Vita in July bumped me up. Augest will be all Vita also as I'm working on Gravity Rush, Uncharted, Hot Shots Golf and Dungeon Hunter.

Speaking of Dungeon Hunter. Anyone else playing it now? Need a partner for the revive a character 20 times trophy.

Sorry Steve, no chime super deluxe trophy :( once I plat ff13-2 and finish the deus ex dlc hopefully I can get props for being at 99.9% :(

Wariosixfour 5

yeah eat it bitches x360 roolz (actually it was an achievement from GTA IV GFWL, lol, thanks Steam sale)

I love what Queasy Games is doing with the trophies for Sound Shapes. Just like Dyad, separating them from the 'main' experience and creating separate modes for earning them.

from the recent PSBlog post

Queasy said:
Something that we think (hope?) is going to take you more than a matter of days, however, is claiming our Platinum Trophy. If you’re a Trophy hunter, you’re probably well aware of the pain and glory of trying to conquer the intense Trophy levels in our pal Shawn McGrath’s new PSN exclusive Dyad. Here at Queasy Games, we didn’t want players to be distracted by playing albums in a certain way for Trophies, or trying to “game” our community. Instead we created two things: Death Mode and Beat School.

Death Mode is an unusual twist in our campaign mode. Once you’ve beaten our albums, you can flip each album over to a b-side and experience intense, single-screen timed challenges to collect notes without dying based on signature moments from each of the album’s tracks. Each win unlocks a Trophy, and it’s our hope that these will test the skills players have learned in our levels, making each Trophy win hard fought but deeply rewarding. Beat School is a different sort of challenge: here we challenge all players, even (if not especially) those who consider themselves “non musical,” to create beats on a single screen by listening and matching to a beat we have created. With luck, these levels will challenge and inspire you to go into the editor and make your own beats—if Jon’s video above hasn’t already convinced you.

Like what PixelJunk Monsters did then. Seems they only did it with that game though since it was a post release patch that added trophies.

A look at the PlayStation Trophy system and Xbox Achievement system in terms of their state of legitamacy. Mostly speaking of trophies on the PS3 and 360 platform side of things, not PS Vita/Windows Phone/PC.

I started typing this up for this thread in reply to this post, but it grew into a huge post that I deemed not appropriate for the topic at hand there. In addition, I really knew I was wasting my time since the only replies I'd get would be "who gives a shit" coming from people that hardly acknowledge trophy/achievement systems and instead of trying to complete a list, struggle to complete story modes (due to lack of will mostly, but skill/determination too) and grow their backlogs day by day. As such, I'll post in here.

In the long run, no, it doesn't matter to me personally. Trophies and achievements are simply a "checklist" for games that I would have normally played anyway. They don't shape gaming's existence. And I'll be damned if I allow people exploiting them to shape my habits.

Now, as a disclaimer, this interest in the trophy/achievement scene I acknowledge is not very prevalent on NeoGAF. Even in the "Achieve Trophy" monthly threads, there is a very lax attitude with many users. But just take into consideration this is coming from a completionist, a completionist who also chases extremely challenging games, and thus rare completions. Seeing things torn apart really hits a nerve. If you have a lax attitude on it all, then don't patronize or downplay concerns of others with differing views.

But I reminisce to a time when Trophies meant something, back in 2008 when they came out...it was much more enjoyable than Achievements on 360. Then as the years went on, the cheating started...contained and only to select games, then in December 2011 it happened. The PS3 trophy system was worthless as we knew it.

It is kind of ironic, that the same month of December 2011, the PlayStation Vita launched in Japan - free of trophy exploits...and it still is. The PS Vita is really my "safe haven" these days if I start to lose my sanity to cheaters on both 360 and PS3. Knock on wood Vita stays that way.

Festering in anger of seeing this escalate these past months on PS3, I went ahead and started gaming on Xbox 360. I heard a lot about "Gamerscore Corrections" and Microsoft resetting people's entire Achievement histories to permanent zero's. While Sony has done nothing, it really made me smile that there was some kind of justice going on.

So I started there for awhile. But I started seeing cheaters pop up left and right on sites like TrueAchievements. I thought cheating stopped years ago for the most part. But I was wrong. Very wrong. They'd be removed from TrueAchievements, other times not (because they hide their fraud behind offline timestamps). But almost always, nobody was really getting reset by Microsoft. They were free to keep their exploited mess of a list.

I started looking into it a bit more and discovered that even though Sony was doing nothing to PS3 cheaters, the PS3 trophy manipulation was only being done by one method. With Xbox 360, there was a much more vile and instant method than what I previously understood. I'd see not only people cheating rare completions on TrueAchievements, but it was not uncommon to spot preteen CoD fanatics with handfuls of cheated (mainstream) games. So I saw that and knew it was out of control...and easy. The frustration that Microsoft allows that profile manipulation on PC, to be transferred back and synced on Xbox Live safely, is astounding.

Summary:
At that point I reached a decision - both the PS3 and Xbox 360 trophy/achievement systems are majorly screwed in their own ways for legitimacy.
Sony does nothing about trophy cheaters (yet the PS Vita is a saving grace). Microsoft does reset cheaters, but there's oceans and oceans of unpunished ones that go free, even on sites like TrueAchievements. In addition, the profile manipulation on Xbox 360 takes the cake - it's totally despicable.

Is there a "cleaner" platform? Well, I can't look at the PS3 people cheating a game like Catherine or MGS2 and ruining the value of the trophies (while never being punished), while on 360 those games for example are very rare and valuable to have completed (while the cheaters there are occasionally punished). So at the moment, I think it's wiser to play multiplatform games on 360 if you're super-obsessed about things. But the PS3 and 360 trophy/achievement systems both have extreme negatives that they balance out.

We're nearing the end of this generation - will the next PlayStation and next Xbox be exploit-free in terms of their trophy/achievement systems? Time will tell, but so far in 2012, Sony has not even acknowledged trophy manipulation, while Microsoft established efforts to punish cheaters around 2007. One would assume that MS may make part of their security concerns for the new console be proofing the achievements from exploitation. But we don't know anything yet. What we can do now though, is cross our fingers that things will change (Sony resetting cheaters finally, and the new consoles being cheat-proof). Until then, play for yourself and do your best if you care about completion - because cheaters don't have the ability to complete things, and the people who really do the work will show in the end.

Nobody wants to hear about this, but like all issues in the world, they are brought up...because the issues contain subjects of people not adhering to common decency as a human being.

I was debating just to not even post this after typing it out, due to how I know people will bark back at me in frustration with the usual "who gives a shit" or "only care about your trophies" replies. But I'll post anyway in hope someone finds some points interesting now or in the future via search engines or just looking through old threads.

Almost done with Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando

Just need to buy the 1.5mil bolt weapon, which unlocks it's trophy and other trophies that stack with it
Should have #115th Platinum tonight

God this game is a grind, you have to play in bunches to even feel you did something

Challenge mode bolts take forever (you get x20 multiplier, but still doesn't feel like that much =/)

Those ship + rings to get Platinum bolts, were my bane in this game, good god, when the US get it's release, people will be bitching about this
Camera is so pulled in, that sometimes the ring obscures, and the slight wrong turn, equals full restart
I don't remember the rings being that bad in PS2, or I have fuzzy memory, and forgot about it

ANYWAY.

August 2012 is a very exciting month for trophies indeed.

Shall we start with just two?

1) Uncharted 3 DLC
Over 50 new trophies coming. If the leaked list is anything to remotely believe, it'll make the Unchared 2 DLC journey look like child's play. This is a good or a bad thing depending on one's trophy habits and views.

2) Metal Gear Solid 4 trophy patch
Often wished upon for years now, to the point it was joked about because it wasn't looking like it was going to happen...is finally happening. Will it be easy? Will it be average? Will it have Big Boss run and such that MG fans want? Will MGS4:S be announced? Will MGO return? All that will be known at the MG 25th Anniversary event, the trophy patch probably around the same time.

Also, is it known if Sound Shapes shares savedata/save cloud thing between Vita and PS3 versions?
I'd like that not to be the case, really want to do possibly both versions 100% legit with no auto-popping looks-like-a-hack crap on the second version you play (which people that didn't even complete 1 version go and exploit too).

wat
Not trying to brag or anything but Uncharted 3 Crushing mode was the easiest of the four games in my opinion. In fact, the whole Platinum was too easy. This is why I'm excited for the DLC trophies, if the co-op Crushing stuff is anything like Uncharted 2's it'll be a great challenge.

Uncharted 3 already has 55 Trophies, I think the max trophy count is 99

So only 44 more can be added

I think Burnout Paradise = Most @98 Trophies (with all DLC)
Then Red Dead Redemption with 91 (with all DLC)

No game has gone over 99, I think Criterion even said 99 is max in a QA with a website, I remember reading it/hearing it (I think it was a live video Q&A session)

Managed to get my 8th platinum last month (Rayman Origins Vita). Haven't played much PS3 lately, but been rockin' my Vita during my vacation a lot.

Well my 50 number is not based off of the leaked list (the leaked list has 53 I believe), it's confirmed by a Naughty Dog employee that it'll have 50 (at the minimum). That could change I'd assume, but I doubt they'd have enough time between when they said that (under a month ago I believe) and August 14 (trophy patch).

So Uncharted 3 currently has a total of 55 trophies.
55 + 50 = 105.
So that would be the most trophy count in any game in history so far, even taking into account the entire catalog of Xbox achievements.

Now, that 99 max rule...I can almost confirm that's Microsoft's rule. But I'm not sure if Sony has established any rule like that. The Burnout Paradise case you brought up may have been talking about the Xbox 360 version. edit: Well it seems the 360 version only has 60 achievements, PS3 has 98. While what they said may or may not have been true, that was back in 2008 or 2009.

I mean, when I first heard Uncharted 3 would be getting 50 new trophies it sounded too much to be true. We'll see if Sony really has a 99 limit on August 14 with the Uncharted 3 DLC patch.

@Jetsfluken

I don't care if people cheat if it's just mainstream games, but the second I see Rayman Origins or Metal Gear Solid, then that's crossing the line.

@Jetsfluken

I don't care if people cheat if it's just mainstream games, but the second I see Rayman Origins or Metal Gear Solid, then that's crossing the line.

Yeah, that's kind of how I was seeing it on Xbox 360. Let Little Billy have his CoD's 1000/1000 (there's too many Little Billy's doing it to keep count anyway), but that's it. But I found a guy crossing the line with a very valuable completion, totally out of the ordinary, mixed in with that mainstream casual stuff, and it really made me wake up and realize Xbox 360 is not all that controlled like I thought, and said, "maybe PS3 isn't as bad as I thought in these terms".

But yeah, they are cheating those two games you mentioned on PS3. They aren't exactly niche. But they are also cheating totally niche stuff too. Sengoku BASARA? EDF: Insect Armageddon? Space Channel 5? These were previously niche, super valuable completions at that, which are now token hacks. The most outrageous thing about it is, these cheaters didn't even know these games existed before they saw them available to exploit.

And things like that, combined with the fact they are seemingly never getting punished or having their cheats taken away (if things continue as they are and Sony continues to play stupid or not even know what's going on), made me so frustrated I left the PS3 platform for awhile. I came back with knowledge Xbox 360 isn't as pure as I thought, and the only pure platform currently is PS Vita (if we ignore the MS:RC/StardroneExtreme/MGS3 transfarring exploiting).

In addition I hope Sony starts to punish, because even if I now see MS' punishments aren't that common, there's at least a danger that prevents myriads of cheaters. With Sony though there is no danger, and from here this issue will only escalate as it becomes more streamlined and known.

But ultimately like I said, the two consoles have their negatives in their own way, and the best thing to do is play for yourself and the challenge, ignoring what's going on with some undesirables; and if one is so frustrated that their rare PS3 completions aren't showing their skill because cheaters have them too, show you can pull off hard stuff on PS Vita (and/or consider multiplatforms on 360, taking into consideration the despicable profile manipulators despite uncommon MS Gamerscore Correction/resetting), while at the same time hoping that future platforms are not exploitable in this sense (PS Vita sure isn't, knock on wood) and these exploits all chalked off to being the first generation of consoles with trophies/achievements.

July Summary:

Despite a speed bump at the end of the month due to heading out for Otakon, I did manage to get a nice amount of things done.

Plat#55: Just Cause 2
Plat#56: Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Not 100% due to not owning DLC)
Plat#57: Overlord II
Plat#58: BattleFantasia

100%'s: None.

This month I'll be going for the Plat on Lollipop Chainsaw, Way of the Samurai 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and either BlazBlue CS or CSEX (or both!). I actually bought the ENG version of Malicious hoping it would get a separate trophy list from the JPN one but it doesn't, booooo. I have 10/11 trophies in that anyway so I'll just grind out the 10k kill trophy in the japanese version since I have progress in that.

But yeah, they are cheating those two games you mentioned.

Are BASARA and EDF that niche? I've been slow burning through both and making a bit of progress every month of both, though it hasn't occurred to me to see how rare the trophies for either of them are. With the amount of grinding the BASARA one requires though...

No game has gone over 99, I think Criterion even said 99 is max in a QA with a website, I remember reading it/hearing it (I think it was a live video Q&A session)
Isn't 99 the max for the Xbox 360? I never heard of a limit on the PS3

1) Uncharted 3 DLC: Over 50 new trophies coming. If the leaked list is anything to remotely believe, it'll make the Unchared 2 DLC journey look like child's play. This is a good or a bad thing depending on one's trophy habits and views.
For me it is a disaster. I like that 100% and certainly won't get the DLC, so I'll drop tp 50% completion or so.

I understand your frustration, but I fear it is something that can never be solved, because how deep do you have to go? Do you stop people exploiting the system in general or do you go even deeper and even punish people that exploit game-specific glitches?

Personally I don't care about it, I like the trophy-competition here because I know how most people here feel about their Trophies/Achievements. Gathering them is fun because we're a little community here. Looking at YourGamerCard.net I don't feel anything about the fact that I'm in the top 4000. It is a meaningless number.

Add me if you are in NA, I play after 1130:pm EST on most nights. I need that one and teh 4 player co-opp trophy as well.: Cornbread78,
