Active Shooter In Pike County, Ohio

For a small time domestic grow operation? Maybe but the guy who ordered it plainly doesn't have a sense of proportion. My guess is a slighted relative angry at his involvement in the business.

A good reminder that the majority of home invasion robberies are not random and are carried out by acquaintances of the homeowner aware of cash, valuables or contraband in the home.
I think it's the vast majority too. It's why I tend to discount people who feel their guns are effective or highly rational responses to home invasions.

RIP to the deceased; nobody deserves to die for anything fleeting, like drugs or money.

Assuming a turf war or whatever was the case, seems it's a very effective outcome for the victor...I suppose it's unfortunate a murderous international gang was (possibly) your competition.

1.) Identify and locate competition
2.) Eliminate competition
3.) ???
4.) profit

They found marijuana grow operations at three of the houses. Which means it's not random and may have been "business " rather than family strife.

Also the local sheriff told other family members that they're targets and to arm themselves immediately w
hich sounds like very odd advice from law enforcement.

Im impressed that no one is talking about this

Seems like a typical 'good ole boys' response from a sheriff in rural Ohio, no?

Now, resources willing, I'd hope that local law enforcement is offering some sort of coverage options for surviving family members, but it's likely they won't be around 24/7. So, what else do you tell a targeted family who just had 8 of their own 'professionally' executed to do? Stay calm and call 911 if something comes up?

I live relatively close to Piketon in a place roughly analogous in size and demographics. The drug epidemic is absolutely ravaging rural Ohio and a large percentage of the population has their hand in something or other, but cartel-style territorial murders like you see in large cities are exceedingly rare here if they happen at all, which makes me all the more curious as to what exactly happened here.

The Ohio attorney general and fbi are highly involved, so it's not just the local sherrif here.

As silly as it sounds most the time, if this was some type of retaliation hit, I think it's perfectly reasonable for Law Enforcement to encourage the family members to arm themselves. It's not the same thing as officers encouraging the public at large to arm themselves.

Would kind of explain why the shooter hasn't been caught, or even identified yet.

Yah, maybe not for a small grow operation, but DrForester's reply to me hints at what I've been going for.

Most times when you see news of this sort, it's a family member who snapped that ends up committing suicide. The fact that no one has been caught yet either means this person intends to never get caught or maybe did kill themselves, but they're in a location they can't be found. Just thinking out loud here.
