Activision backtracks on Call of Duty Wii U

Isn't there a small team at Treyarch that is soley responsible for porting CoD to Nintendo platforms? I'm sure I read that somewhere. . .

Anyway, it didn't seem like much of a confirmation in the first place.

Activision does the same thing with all the PC games they put out, no need to worry about it unless it's not in stores the week of release.

this just remind me of Activision when they didn't know anything about Black Ops: Declassified or if their studios are working on it or not.

I actually don't like Call of Duty at all, but it seems this might be the ONLY FPS this year with IR Pointer Controls, so I will probably get it for the Online Multiplayer.

This his about where I'm at. I sunk around 100 hours into BO2 online, and it was an alright experience. Decent at times, awful at times.

If IR aiming support is maintained, I'll get this just because it's (probably literally) the only game in town.

How else would you compare game releases on systems released 6 years appart?

Resistance and CoD were the two big FPS releases along the PS3, seems logical to compare them to get an idea.

The COD Franchise in 2006 was a fraction as popular as it is in 2012-2013.
It's not even remotely comparable.

theres gotta be more behind the 3rd party difficulties wii u has faced.

from rayman delay to ea dropping to secret ports, i wouldnt be surprised if microsoft pay to shut up third parties about wii u games in the same way we know they do about ps4 versions of games

It couldnt be the fact its selling less than 100k a month globally, and that COD sold buttons on the system despite being a fully featured port released just one week later at launch.

No, its got to be the elaborate conspiracy theories.

This is a serious question. Why would anyone want to play any CoD game on a Wii U?

Pointer controls when playing on the Big screen.

Local multiplayer, one person using the WiiUPad screen, no more split screen rubbish.

Off TV play when just wanting a short burst when main tv is in use.

I don't own a U, but I've been salivating at the off screen online multiplayer gameplay of Blops 2. It's a real shame if U doesn't get Ghosts, and pretty much the final nail in the third party coffin.

I mean I could understand if your only console is a Wii U. But there is a reason only 500 people are playing BLOPS2 on Wii U at any given time. While I agree it's weird that they're being so silent on the matter, I'm sure we'll find out sooner or later why.

I'll admit I've never used a Wii U so obviously I'm missing that. Pointer controls sound interesting.

Can anybody show us sales numbers? Everyone likes to blame devs and publishers for Nintendo's misfortune but can anyone blame them? I thought the consensus was, "people don't buy Nintendo consoles for 3rd party games." Nintendo continues to be a joke with underpowered hardware and refuses to involve devs when building a platform. Then wonder why no one wants to publish on a "next gen" system with a gig of usable ram. Fuck off!

Off tv play is pretty nice. I enjoy playing against bots while I watch TV. It'd be a shame if Ghosts doesn't get a Wii U version.

I swear MS sends them gag money or something. They did the same thing last year.

so the conversation goes as follows-

Microsoft - "Hey Actiblizz, here's several millions of dollars to show your game only on our platforms, but you can talk about your PS3, PC and PS4 versions. However don't tell your executives or audience that you are or are not making a Wii U version. Have your execs flounder around the question that vaguely affirms or denies a Wii U version and waffle about it, without stating it outright for certain."

Once you go pointer control you never go back. It's so natural, comfortable and precise.

Of course many people have garbage dual analog so ingrained in them that they'd never even give it a shot, but this.

I actually prefer it over mouse/keyboard a lot of the time at this point. Not because it's "better" than mouse/keyboard but it's more fun for some games, CoD included.

Ah, and I forgot, since I thought it's a given and there shouldn't be the need to emphasise it.

Free online - anyone??

And for people who like Co-Op: how about Off-Tv Gamepad Play + Flull Screen TV Co-Op play?

they only have themselves to blame, if they even bother, for collarduty bombing on Wii U. why would you keep it a secret when it adversely affects the preorder numbers they oh so care about. I'm gonna put my tinfoil hat and say that there has to be some collusion between Activision and certain other parties, it's the only way this secretive BS makes sense to me. Just say YES or NO, if you're not porting it then own it and say so FFS

I really hope it comes to Wii U. I bought BLOPS2 on 360 and Wii U and enjoyed it more on the game pad. Off tv play and two player in the room was great.

Excellent plan, Activision.

Don't tell people the game is coming and then when it doesn't sell, say "See, we were right. These games just don't sell on the Wii U."

Activision is most probably having a COD in the works for WiiU. If that console catches some fire in the holidays, do you seriously think Activision would miss their part of the cake? They are smarter than that.

No worries guys, you still have Nintendogs.

That game isn't even coming to Wii U...like, what?

What I'm saying is that there are known knowns and that there are known unknowns. But there are also unknown unknowns; things we don't know that we don't know.

I'm guessing outsourced, later than the main versions, much shittier looking, online problems, same price.

"WHY WONT THINGS SELL ON WII U YOU ENTITLED GAMING SHITS, NO MORE SUPPORT FOR YOUR CONSOLE"

We read these posts all the time. For whatever reason this one made me laugh.

I totally second this! It is not as precise as Keyboard Mouse, but it's actually more fun. I don't know how to describe it. Has probably something to do with you sitting on the couch, but still having a great deal precision and ease of use.

Just rest your hand on your lag and you can play hours on end very comfortably.

that images does make me wonder...

I'm really curious what day 1 # of people online will be for Ghost dogs on xbone and ps4.
Depends if there's cross-gen play between PS3/PS4 and 360/Xbone, which is feasible given the fact that its the same game just a higher resolution on the new consoles.

This is a serious question. Why would anyone want to play any CoD game on a Wii U?

Dual screen co-op, potential for better performance or visuals, pointer controls, miiverse integration. I can do one for any platform it's landing on if you like.

Not that this is the reason why I'd personally pick it (depends where my buds go), but you're purposefully being an idiot to have asked that question.

I don't understand why they don't just say. I mean someone at Activision must know.

I though Nintendo might be saving the announcement to coincide with the Wii U Zapper launch...

...but seeing as Reggie said "ask Activision" in regards to the game ..that seems unlikely now.

Moneyhats wanted? Hush money paid by others? Weird. If it's not coming just say.

Look, I'm not one to bag on the guys making Call of Duty because I think the team is scapegoated for way too many issues in gaming and marketing when they actually seem like good dudes and chicks who put out quality product (I blame the fat cats at Activision and the fat baby fanbase for all the COD hate and overexposure/overdevelopment, remember not so long ago how much we loved IW...?)

That said, this is a common embarrassment for COD producers. Nobody knew jack-all about the Vita game either, even when it was being shown to press there was a lot of "Uh, I don't know about that feature at this time, this is actually the first time I've played it myself." And the Wii and DS games consistently came out without a single screenshot or press release to herald their arrival. It's got to fucking suck for the guys doing good work on these platforms (Wii Modern Warfare was pretty impressive for what was essentially a nextgen-to-PS2-era conversion, and the DS games did with the online modes what so few other developers dared) and getting no credit or support. And it's just mean that even the dedicated Nintendo fansites can't get materials on the versions of the game that applies to their audience.

I get that Activision wants to isolate the messaging on COD and make sure as much attention is paid to the mainline game as possible, but how much more goddamned attention does COD need? Will telling people that there is a Wii U SKU really confuse COD fans so badly that they'll have no clue what to do at the store and accidentally walk home with Mario Kart by mistake? Or see a DS screenshot and go, "Whoa, this year's Call of Duty looks so much worse than before, not buying!" I just don't understand why Activision refuses to open up that communication loop. Say yes or say no, but coming right out in public and saying "I don't know" is a shitty thing to do to potential customers.

This is a serious question. Why would anyone want to play any CoD game on a Wii U?

...because those people own a Wii U.
