Activision exploring ways to bring Crash Bandicoot "back to life"

Just sell it to Nintendo. I doubt naughty dog has the talent anymore to do it justice.
Why are you allowed to post comments? Whyyyyyy?

On topic: Activision saw the hype on neoGaf and quickly made a statement. I dont believe they will do a good job

Sigh, if they put crash on skylanders... Just terrible, too sad to think of angry words if they do.
Same for spyro, not even angry, just very sad and disappointed, should just sell those 2 characters back to Sony or insomniac/ND, hopefully they'd give them a worthy game.

Why do Sony fanboys think they should give it to Sony?
Because that's where he truly belongs and would have always belonged if not for the devils at Universal.

Even with all the help they could get Activision wouldn't be able to create a good bandicoot. The dream is over.
Then we'll just have to wait for an Indie to do for Crash Bandicoot what Mighty No. 9 is doing for Megaman.

Why do Sony fanboys think they should give it to Sony? If anything they can reach a much wider base by making the next Crash game be multiplatform. That way, they can capture the fans that probably exist on Xbox systems.

Plus, Activision is always looking for new ways to make money, and with all that Sony buyout speculation, they know fans have been wanting a new game for a while.

The last few games have all been multiplatform and havent done very well. Along with the Spyro series (pre Skylanders) they just pumped out too many games too fast so quality diminished and basically ended the brand. They rebooted the series at least twice, but it never panned out.

In before "$2.99 for 50 in-game jumps, $5.99 for 25 in-game spins" and "+4 lives pre-order bonus"

I remain hopeful though. I want this series back!

Making the series Sony exclusive would get a hell of a lot more attention than another multiplatform Crash. Nobody has cared about the series since the PS2 days, and even then it was nothing compared to what he was during the PS1 years.

Crash needs something big if Activision ever want him to be relevant again.

"Hey guys, you asked for Crash Bandicoot, here you go!"

Lol!!!! Just no....

It's a bit of an extreme statement to say the least, but there is some truth to it. Modern 3D Mario games have more in common with the PS1 Crash games than the earlier 3D Mario games. The Crash style of focused linear level design is now how 3D Mario games are. Mario has abandoned the huge open exploration based gameplay of Mario 64 in favour of Crash style linearity and focus.

I think it's very unfair and wrong to say they're rip-offs of the old Crash games, but it's certainly a lot closer to being true than saying Crash was a rip-off of Sonic.

Naughty Dog's version of Crash with PS4 hardware would melt my retinas from the awesome.
Activision's version would be F2P and riddled with microtransactions.

Just give it to the creators.

I'm pretty sure that making a good Crash Bandicoot game would bring it back to life. Easier said than done, sure, but it's not rocket science.

Activision, the same company who saw nothing in sleeping dogs.... I can't see them ever making another crash except for mobile platforms.

activision saw the crash thread and started to lick their lips, the price to sell went up more

we should have said we hated crash :P

the dream is dead :( , can we at least get Crash 1,2,3 racing and bash HD for vita? i want to play crash on my USA vita :(

Yeah, why they spent money porting it to Android and not make a new one on Vita is beyond me.

Wow I had no idea they ported it to Android. That might be the first ever first party exclusive ported to smartphones? (holy shit two years ago as well?).

I think the problem with this is that due to Crash being a 3D game, it's a lot more unlikely that an indie is going to come along and do this.

They're getting there, it might not be that unfeasible.

Nobody wants a fucking Crash Bandicoot game from you, Activision, they want to see it freed from your dungeon of IPs that were once actually good.

Yeah, why they spent money porting it to Android and not make a new one on Vita is beyond me.

You do realise you can already play Kula World on Vita, right? I used to have it on my Vita before I deleted it to make space on my memory card. I know it's not a new game, but just because they were willing to do a port for ios doesn't mean they were willing to do a new game for any platform. If all they were going to do was a port, there was no point in doing one for Vita since you can already get it from the PS1 section of the PS Store anyway.

Yep. The fixed overhead camera angles in 3D Land/Galaxy feel a lot more like Crash than they do like Mario 64 or Galaxy.

I mean, just look at this level and tell me parts of it don't resemble Crash.

Yeah I should have said "the new mario games" instead of just "Mario" but you get what I meant.

and that's.. wow lol.

Maybe knock-offs is too strong a word (as I've already said). But it's undeniable that the fixed camera angle and tight narrow platforming is straight out of Crash Bandicoot. Even GiantBomb and Tim Rogers have said this.

Crazy, right?
Probably is the first.

Yeah but I want a new game :(
Why annoys me is that Sony forks out money to buy an exclusive level in AC4 (or Watch_dogs) but can't justify making a cheap game like Kula World, Kurushi or Devil Dice. Yes you can play the psx game on a Vita, but you end up wanting more and a sequel.
Sony has such an amazing backlog of titles and IP that they don't IMO need to buy Crash back from Activision.

I'm sure indies devs would LOVE to get their hands on some of Sony's IP.

Mario had linear/focused platforming before Crash even existed, even at points in the more-open 3D games.

You telling me that the perspective (read: running into and out of the screen) is the only hallmark of Crash Bandicoot's platforming?

you son of a bitch.

edit- well at least those were the first words that came out of my mouth when I read the title.

sigh.. I don't know what to think.

I'd love to get a old school Crash Bandicoot, but with the craziness level amped up to the max. Not something that opens up the gameplay to bigger 3d levels, but something that takes the general style of the original games (straightforward 3d levels), yet something that perhaps makes it quicker paced & adds some agility & repertoire to what Crash can do. So... basically, what Rayman Origins (especially some of the harder challenges) does to the (2d) Rayman games.

I hope for the people that still care that some arrangement is made between Activision and Sony, but I also hope Sony doesn't spend too much money on the deal that could be better spent on creating and developing an original IP. Mascot Platformers besides Nintendo's won't have a resurgence just because we want them to. Sony has Ratchet and Clank, Little Big Planet, Puppeteer and now Tearaway to fulfil that space. A future Crash game would always be a huge risk to which developer/publisher takes that job to hands. A reboot? Fans of past titles would cry foul for tarnishing their memories/nostalgia. If they go the safe route and just "modernize" the looks and mechanics/interface then I'm afraid it could never have an audience large enough to justify the buyout/licensing of the IP.

Beloved? Really?

It always felt like a Sonic knockoff and/or an attempt to create a mascot for Sony. The games just weren't that good.

If they want to bring him back, they have to keep their expectations low and don't blow a big budget on trying to market a niche game. It could reach Knack-levels at best.

You don't say....maybe it has something to do with it actually was.

Also concidering Crash have had around the same amount of good games as Sonic (2-3) without being as milked, I can see why its beloved.

they could have done that years ago though and saved some money designing a new skylanders character to sell to kids. Either they view him as totally worthless or are at least holding out for a rebirth.

That would be impressive, given that Crash came out before any of the 3D Marios.

A fixed overhead camera perspective with relatively simple point-to-point platforming was the general design template for the first 3 Crash games. This was not the design philosophy of 3D Mario games until 3D Land.

This step went VERY FUCKING WRONG for Sonic Lost World though ;_;
Yes they didn't do their homework at all lol.

Indeed, and to reiterate what I said in my previous post even respected gaming journalists like GiantBomb and Tim Rogers, who are avid Mario fans themselves, have also compared them to Crash Bandicoot.

Why did Sony ever push Crash as their mascot in the first place given they didn't own the IP.

Seemed a very very odd decision at the time.

Crash 1 is god-tier level platformer, ESPECIALLY the 2d levels/bug! like levels in the temples.

2 and 3 are also good games that really opened up gameplay a lot. But Crash 1 is the best.

Yes, someone else like me!

Meh sorry, I'm really not interested in it coming from Activision. I don't see their business plan and strategy for their IPs aligning with what I want out of a new Crash Bandicoot.

A big thing I think would be to go back to the original Crash design. Or at least a design that more closely resembles that.

Yes please. I hate the way the character has evolved over time... original Crash was the best.

Thing is, Nintendo probably isn't even aware of Crash Bandicoot.
