I think Robert Carlyle spends most of his time lamenting the demise of the British independent movie industry, and the rest of his time trying to reinvigorate it.

Has he ever done a role where he is allowed to talk in a manner that doesnt portray him as a wormy bitch of a character?

You have not seen 28 days later have you?

wow...I never pieced together all those roles to realise it was the same person. And here I was pondering why i've never seen Herbert West from Re-animator in any other roles.

The entire wire cast?

Should have won truckloads of emmy's and didn't.

The 1% respect I had for awards of that ilk went out the window with the bull.

Peter Dinklage, part of it is obviously the dialogue but I can't ever remember a "villain" I rooted for more than him. When I read further into the books I was still picturing Dinklage rooting for him even if it meant "good" characters suffered.

The Rock/Dwayne Johnson - He usually picks/gets SHIT roles in horribly written movies, but he pulls them off really well imo. One of the best actors to make a BAD movie decent.

I thought he was fantastic in Serenity, really wish he got more major roles

As an actor, I think he is top tier. Very few others can entertain with charisma and character like he could

Kevin Bacon

I always see him land just some minor roles or simply as a villain. I always thought he deserved better and should have been in more leading roles where his potential could have really been fulfilled.

Hands down, Gene Hackman THE MOST unappreciated actor in Hollywood.

The dude retires from acting and NOT ONE PEEP from the media and Hollywood in general. No retrospectives, no honors, no kudos, NADA. It's like he never existed. Pathetic.

Thank you. He's incredible, should be on everyone's top 10 list, and no one cares.

Yes! I really liked him in Be Cool. He has very good comedic timing.

Also, Vin Diesel in Find Me Guilty.

He has two fucking Oscars, man. Who are you gonna post next, Meryl Streep and Katharine Hepburn?

So? That doesn't mean he's not under-appreciated. This thread doesn't ask who you think is the MOST under-appreciated.

The notion that anyone with two(!) Academy Awards could ever be under-appreciated is patently ridiculous.

Robert Knepper. Dude pulled off a very menacing and creepy villain on Prison Break. The basic reason I kept watching that show was his character. Never saw him in an interesting role in anything after that.

Strictly Classic Hollywood. Some of the following actors were never even nominated for an Oscar, let alone win one, despite their tremendous acting skills and popularity among the moviegoers.

1. Glenn Ford

2. William Powell

3. Richard Burton

The Thin Man is one of the funniest movies from the classic Hollywood Period IMO. The only other movie I saw him in was My Man Godfrey and I thought it was also pretty good.

If there's one word I could use to describe Gene Hackman, it's "dynamite". It's always a pleasure watching him on-screen, especially when he explodes :p

Because she has just as many abysmal performances as she has stellar ones. Most bipolar (in terms of acting quality, not sanity) actress working today.

Like what? She's picked some shitty roles, but I can't recall her being downright terrible in any film. She's also amazing in Short Cuts, that Robert Altman film.

This thread is about people YOU think are underappreciated, not who is underappreciated by the film industry. Nic Cage has an academy award but everyone hates on him, therefore he is underappreciated in my mind.
